  1. Rear output sensor on the tranny. Really surprised the dealer did not pick up on it as it is a common failure as you build up the miles. It will do that for awhile then eventually fail. once it fails all your dash indicators will blank out and all the warning lights will come on. Then the RPM will increase and the spedometer will drop to maybe to zero depending. If you are on the intersate keep driving, because once you slow down or stop it will take a long time to get it moving again. It sort of feels like it is reving up but moving very slowly and as you go it will build up speed and get going again. 800 dollar repair.
  2. Masterpro part failure after 30,000 miles. I replaced the right front with all new suspension parts and the masterpro Strut bearing mount failed and failed quickly in just a matter of about a few days it went from and light clunking noise to full out clunking noise even driving down the interstate. Inspection revealed the internal bushing had failed and was allowing the strut to force its way up and down to the point that is was almost thrusting completely through the bearing. I would say that the strut bearings mounts made for this vehicle are definately needing some re-engineerings due to the number of failures noted on this site. Total cost for replacement $252.00. Mileage is now at 245,000.
  3. Even though i live in Iowa the body shows no signs of rust. As far as new car payments I just do not buy new. I look for vehicles with40-60k on them and buy them. Note. I am still using the standard 5-20 oil and no problems. I figure the day I get a low oil pressure code is the day I put heavier oil in it and start looking for another car.
  4. Strut bearing mounts. Replace them and I am willing to bet the noise goes away. Been through this already and replace the bearing mounts. You wil not find anything really loose but will hear the popping. I replaced my entire front suspension with MOOG parts and they are great!!
  5. Turned out to be a broken line to the power steering pump. Ford dealer repair $270.00 the hose was billed at $100.00. Pretty pricey hose if I do say so. Maybe it is covered in gold.
  6. 240,500 miles power steering was whinning and discovered the tank was empty. Have seen spots on the concrete now I know what it is. Time for a new powersteering pump or something. Not sure what part is actually leaking.
  7. I will say the Struts and Strut bearing mounts are due for replacement. Why you running High mileage oil? I have always ran normal oil and still do with 240K miles on the engine and no problems.
  8. If it has not failed yet then most likely it will. The OSS sensor is most likely failing.
  9. 700-800 dollar repair at ford dealers.
  10. Clicking was not CV shafts just an unseated bearing. A little more torque and noise is gone.
  11. Strut bearing mount is bad. Time for new struts and mounts.
  12. Problem solved. Not the axle, but the new wheel bearing had slightly worked loose after installation and was retorqued. Ping is gone. Good news is the CV shafts were given a good bill of health. Ready to hit the 300k mark.
  13. 238,000 miles and now I am getting a metalic ping soud out of the drivers side front axle area. Sound comes when placing in gear and under acceleratoin and deceleration if I play with the gas peddle. No real clicking sound when turning. I am thinking it is the cv joint closest to the transmission. Anyone else care to guess?
  14. Just let me or fifthranger know where the keys are and we can take turns with it for ya!!! LOL
  15. Still kicking it down the road at 236,000 miles. Mostly highway.
  16. fifthranger with 236,000 miles so far the engine and tranny are sound. Suspension components will be needing replacement for you soon. I though am still running the same serpetine belt, but will be scheduling that for a change in the future. My left front CV/Shaft is now clicking and will monitor this as i put more miles on it..
  17. 236,000 miles. Left front drive shaft is starting to make clicking sound. Will have to monitor this to see how it goes. Most likely will change both CV joints/shafts when the time comes. Left side has been moist since I owned it, but not leaking.
  18. Just installed a new set of Bridgestone H/L Dueller, Alenza, Ecopias on my Edge. Very quiet tire and smooth. I had regular ecopias prior to this set and they ran over 70 k and still had some tread left, but I chose to ditch them and put on the snow tires for the winter. Blizzacks are in storage now after three seasons and the new tires for the remaining year.
  19. 235,000 engine light came on. I suspected an O2 sensor and took my Edge to the repair shop. Further checks revealed the O2 Upper sensor was bad. I was also told that the plugs may need replacement as this could also cause the sesor to go bad. He took out the plug and brought them to me. The wire ends were completely gone with just the base metal in the plugs left. Total miles on the iridium plugs was 150,000 miles. So I guess the 100,000 change time frame is most likely a good time to replace the plugs. Now it is time to see if the gas mileage will be improved along with a little more power.

    Gas Gauge question

Just curious has anyone ever put over 21.5 gallons of gas in their ford edge. I have done it and could swear the tank limits by ford said 19 gallons or something like that.
  21. I would replace the entire thing, strut and the bearing mount. If it is the right front check the ball joint also.
  22. I am about a year behind ya buddy. 230,000 now and should hit it about this time next year.
  23. 26 Feb 2014, I had the last Hub assembly and wheel bearing replaced. The drivers side front and the passengers side rear. Both were the original bearing or hub and had 230,000 miles on them. This means all the bearings and hubs have now been replaced. Bonus....I can hear the radio.
  24. What do you need to change or replace on a 2008 Ford Edge with 230,000 miles. I have replaced a total of three wheel bearings with the right front requiring two. (more on that later). I have just finished replacing on both right and left front the following parts. The strut bearing mounts (right front was completely worn) making thumping sounds. The struts (both were completly worn and when pushed down did not extend) I recommend changing the struts and Mounts at 100k as it would be a much better ride. I also changed out the lower control arms/ball joints ( note these are press on and all one unit) The rubber sleeves in both control arms appeared in great shape, but the ball joints were loose with the right front ball joint being very worn and moving) The tie rod ends (outer) were both easily moved to the point that replacement was a better soulution. The Sway bar links had to be replaced just due to the fact that the bolts were so rusted that cutting them off was the only option, so plan on this. The right front wheel bearing was repalced a second time due the the strut and ball joint being so bad that the pressures on the bearing caused it to fail prematurely. The rear shock were changed when tire wear indicated that the shocks were worn, tire wear went away when this was done (look for cuping or inside abnormal wear on the inside tread. Test drive and my Ford Edge is now feeling like it did when I first bought it. Suspension always makes a difference.
  25. I have replaceed wheel bearings (two on the right side and one on the left rear) The noise you describe is a wheel bearing. I would replace it. I am also now starting to hear noise on the right rear and will most likely be replacing that wheel bearing soon. My left front wheel bearing would be the only one that is original then at this point. I may also replace it just because it has 230,000 miles on the bearing and it most likely will be needing replacement soon.
