  1. This is the response from my insurance carrier. I would say if your insurance carrier is making you pay insurance then you may wish to find another carrier. Below is the response I received from our Allied underwriter this morning regarding your vehicle; If the insured's vehicle is put into storage and he obtains a replacement vehicle we would leave the 2008 Ford Edge on the policy and provide the same coverage it has for the vehicle that is rented. If this happens, please provide the year, make and model of the vehicle his is provided.
  2. Won't hurt to put it on a lift and visually inspect. Do not try to remove or loosend anything!! Even ford recognizes this will only cause the tank to leak if it is moved or loosened. Essentially the rust may be the only thing keeping it from leaking.
  3. Your best choice is to stay with the replacement rotor (disk) for your Ford Edge. Any other size will not work.
  4. Here is a youtube video on the repair/replacement of brakes on a MKX which is the same as an edge but you pay more for it.
  5. If you want to video it and are not sure how to edit or create a video let me know maybe we can get a way to have you provide the video and I would edit it and put it together. This would be a great DIY that has not been done for the Ford Edge. Let me know.
  6. Since I work for an insurance company I have put this question directly to my co worker and will also see what the actual coverages are with the carriers such as Traveler, Nationwide, Allied etc. I might be able to provide some clarity on this. If you work through gieco good luck.
  7. Akirby, You have now installed images in my head of ford making a dozen versions of the fuel tanks with different metals/coating and processes, spraying them with saltwater, rocks, mud etc and heating and cooling them with high and low humidity while some guy kicks and pounds on them with various things from rocks to bottles and then they tie them to a rope and submerge them in the ocean for a month. Bring it up then drag it down the street on the road by an rope and start the testing all over again. Just my imagination at work.
  8. The ford bean counter must all be on vacation. This makes absoulutely no business sense.
  9. Change the rotors (disks) in pairs. The pulse is due to warped rotors, so they have to be replaced. If you have the ability to purchase CERAMIC pads you may find them to be longer lasting, but you should really look for HIGH CARBON steel rotors to match them up together. Remember the heavier the rotor is the better. Check the wieghts of each brand and you will find the better ones wiegh more. If ceramic are not available go with the semi metalic and the better rotors. There is one video on the net on a guy replacing the brakes and rotor on his MKX on youtube this will also most likely assist you in your DIY on the brakes.
  10. As below stated: I have always found the Front brakes will wear faster than the rear brakes. I believe on the engineering side the front brakes are slightly advance in pressure balance to the front due to the higher forces continuely placed on them and the rears have to be balanced due to wieght shift and not lock up as the fronts take on the job of stopping in forward movement, thus the rear apply a lighter force due to a lighter weight. In the driving I do and on every car I have ever driven my rear brakes will usually last 25 percent longer or more than the front brake pads. WWWPerfA_ZN0W, on 27 Jan 2015 - 06:58 AM, said:
  11. Yep Gieco did the same to me because they thought I drove too many miles so I dropped everything including house and toy insurance and of course found better coverage at a slightly less cost. Thing about online insurance is you most likely are not getting a good deal.
  12. Buy some good quality fuel throw in some injector cleaner for a few tanks. Change the plugs also if that has not been done. I would tackle it as an ingnition/fuel delivery issue in regards to the lenghty starts. Mine took that many cranks to start a few weeks ago, but it was 25 below zero.
  13. Note it might be wise to at least verify this Edge is not a flood vehicle just to rule out the possibility. How many miles on it?
  14. Not liking the seat color at all.
  15. I did not keep a close tab on the time, but I would estimate from the time to record, then process/edit, then rendering as a new video, along with compression of the video to a smaller size then uploading. 5 hours give or take. I make training videos for OSHA safety topics that I provide for sale and online for my clients so I have the software and at work a far better video camera and lavalier mic that is great. The buzzing sound is that stupid light the hobby shop gave me. Next time I will bring my own LED light as that one makes no buzzing sound. I truely hope these video's help people work on their Ford Edge. I find these very helpfull in auto repair for the DIY. Please share it and give others the confidence to save a few bucks. I figure I saved 340 dollars by doing it myself.
  16. Better off just replacing the whole caliper. WIth the heat transfer from running the the brakes to the point that they wore through the pad and were pressing on the rotor i doubt the caliper is any good. Most likely a waste of money to replace the cylinders.
  17. My synopsis on the fuel tank leaks. Since 2000 the advent and almost mandatory use of Gasahol has been increasingly inserted into our fuel systems. The fuel systems had to be reworked and engineered to handle gasahol. Known fact: Alcohol is a highly corrosive chemical. NoteL this is why you do not see pipelines for Alcohol due to the lines would be leaking like a sieve. Corrosive meaning it eats metal of all flavors some faster than others. It also eats rubber and other plastics. Metal reacts by rusting. Check the massive rework gas stations have had to to to combat the rusting of their underground tanks and well over 500,000 tanks are leaking in the United States. The weak link is the connection and evap lines in the Ford Edge the alcohol can work on these connections and rust them out causing the tank to leak. Other manufacturers have the same issue but I believe ford chose to 1) used cheaper metal 2) process of fabrication has issues 3) insufficient protective coatings. Ford and the other manufacturers KNOW alcohol does this to metal and I bet ford rolled the dice and said lets see what happens. Question is why doesn't my 1995 vehicle leak? Thicker metal (better material) Good questions to ask. One thing I try to do is purchase regular (non alcohol) fuels, plus my mileage is better) Maybe using non alcohol fuel will buy time.
  18. OK folks a video of my 2008 Ford Edge replacing the serpentine belt, power steering stretchy belt and the tensioner. I also inspected front and rear brakes, the fuel tank (seperate video can be found in recalls section) and then the exhaust and oil/transmission leaks. Hope anyone deciding to DIY finds some parts of this video helpfull. I have looked and there is not a video for the ford edge specifically on this (actually very few video's on anything ford edge related) Enjoy.
  19. Not sure but I would be willing to bet the tank on the 2010 is most likely the same. So investigation may need to be done and the Canadian Traffic safety organization would be where I would start with a complaint. The more complaints receive the more oil ford will have to apply.
  20. My edge was a Texas rental the first two years of it's life. I believe these first two years bought me some time otherwise I believe the rust would be far more advanced.
  21. Not really sure but start with the 1 liter. I can not imagine it would be much more than that and if you bleed the brakes with 1 liter you most likely have changed out the entire system.
  22. Below is the link to the fuel tank inspection I performed on my 2008 Ford Edge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2eQ2tM7rKk&feature=youtu.be I have not seen any videos of this so thought I would investigate the issue since I had the vehicle up on the lift today.
  23. I went into the Army Base and used the auto skill center and lift to perform some work on my 2008 Ford Edge. As with anything mechanical I do I always have to pay with my pound of flesh and this was no exception to that rule. I will be editing a video of the process although not a highly produced piece it will give the beginner a idea of what to look for and how to accomplish changing out the Power steering stretchy belt, serpetine belt and the tensioner. 1. The job took me about two hours even though I was there longer. I was busy with other things you will see post such as videos. 2. The long part was removing the plastic wheel cover in the wheel well. Did not help that the snow on the top of the car was melting a providing cool refreshing showering drips on me the whole time. 3. The removal of the serpetine belt was fairly easy with the aid of the tensioner tool (you need thin tools for this) 4. The removal and installation of the power steering stretchy belt was easy. I cut it off (i am crazy in that way) Two zip ties and a large socket wrench and the stretchy belt took about 10 minutes to replace (Thank you God) The rest tried my patience trust me. 5. Removing the bolts on the tensioner (8mm) if you want to know. Requires a ratcheting wrench/with box end. Take deep breaths and remove all three bolts 1/8th of a turn at a time, yep this is where you think good thoughts and ponder your lifes mission. The bonus is you get to reverse this process when you reinstall. I recommend some minor stretching a large drink of water to relax. 6. Once the tensioner is now reinstalled (sigh) you can move on to the serpetine re-install goes fairly well just a lot of positioning 7. (Break) called wife confessed my love to her and then went back to work reinstalling the plastic wheel well covering. 8. While installing the plastic wheel well cover I had to get some new plastic fasteners (OK cheapskates, just go get about 6 at the parts store you will need them or at least I did) 9. While installing the last screw into the wheel well I had to force the plastic under it as it was outside (kids turn away now) I then decided to force it and the Edge said Pay up buddy and promptly removed the skin off of the end of my thumb without hesitation, no "I am sorry, Nothing" subsequently I had to stop and perform some first aid upon my thumb. Thankfully the skill center is fully equiped with a variety of first aid supplies and a kind old man that says "Yep happens a lot around here" Thank you old guy for the bolstering and making me feel I am not alone in the stupidity ranks. 10. Made many video's and deleted the thumb amputation.(i will keep that one private) Notice the gloves after the incident. LOL Recommendation: The belts are easy to install in all actuallity. The tensioner does nothing, but install tension into you so be ready. I found that I was wishing for hands the size of a 10 year old girl with the strength of a full grown man when dealing with the tensioner. Video soon to come. Feel free to laugh the old guy did.
  24. Stay tuned. I am currently uploading a video of a visual inspection of my fuel tank on Youtube. Unfortunately the observation and discovery was not what I was hoping for. My vent and filler neck connections areas are bubbled up terribly with rust. I am hoping the tanks come in sooner rather than later. The video will show what is happening to the tanks.
  25. Wow that is quite a job. I am impressed as I would write this off as a dealer or garage type job. You should of done some video as there is nothing like this on video in the net. Keep the process photographed.
