  1. Yes I think I mentioned this as one of the very few things that bugs me about my '13 Edge SEL (with MFT) as well. It isn't a deal breaker & isn't causing leather couch time with a shrink, but it is an annoyance. It seems that just about everything in the car is software controlled so you would think that someone could get into the system, change a bit of code and presto: 50% reduction in each "click" of volume up or down. Meanwhile..... Well I'm getting used to it, but should there ever be a patch I would be in. Happy Motoring jeff
  2. A 2013 SEL 3.5 FWD here, only had it for since end of December, so less than 3 months. In upstate NY, Buffalo/Rochester where it's been a nasty winter. I commute 100 miles round trip weekdays. I am averaging 23 mpg on that commute. I'd say about 1/3 state 2 lane highway, 1/3 interstate, and 1/3 village or city. Not very hilly. I check what the on board computer says & compare to actual to get the average 23. The computer is a bit optimistic, but not too bad. I have about 6500 miles on it now, so just sneaking up on Break-In. The mpg seems to be getting a bit better, but then again the snow is diminishing & it is gettin a bit warmer, both factors will have a positive impact. 300 mile road trips that are mainly interstate will give me around 26 or 27, and that's at 70mph. I am fairly conservative in terms of acceleration and overall agressiveness. (save that stuff for the scooters). I am pleased with these results. I hope by 10,000 on the clock it will get maybe 1 or 2 mpg better, but even if not I am ok. I think I do better than EPA on the highway, but worse than EPA city. I am enjoying the ride an awful lot, just a couple bugs but nothing serious. No issues with MFT, and I like the nav as well. Let's put it this way: I'd recommend an Edge to anyone & I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Hope you enjoy yours too!
  3. Mine is also a 2013, bought new off the dealer's lot in December where it sat for 2 years, so probably similar deal to yours. No noises here. Mine is 3.5 L FWD. The car is pretty quite. My wife drives a '13 Fusion, and I think my Edge is quieter & more comfortable.
  4. I only bought my FWD '13 SEL 3.5 liter in December, it was a great deal left-over. Probably sat on the dealer's lot for 2 years because it's front wheel drive and most people up here (Buffalo-Rochester NY) want AWD. I am not having much difficulty with this year's brutal winter. Car has the OEM Michelins on it. As they wear over the summer & fall I'm sure snow tires will be in order next year, but it's been fine so far. If you're having traction issues I'm guessing the tires are just not well suited to the conditions even though they appear to have tread. The rubber compound, tread pattern and who knows what other factors make for good winter performance.
  5. 2013 SEL 3.5 L; had the car since late December '14, so not a long time. The most fuel it has taken at one filling was 19.8 gallons (honest). I was very surprised at the 19.8. The next highest amount was 19.3 gallons. I have to milk in the last few gallons, like others have said it can be a slow-go for the last few. I'm usually putting in 16 or 17 gallons. My weekday commute is about 100 miles, so I get to gas up pretty often. Love the car so far.
  6. great cars. only had mine a few months, but very pleased. you will be too!
  7. No, actually it is your "advice". In fact you offered your "advice" on this subject in your own words "multiple times". Your solution to any given problem is fine for you, and I appreciate your willingness to offer it, but you don't have the right to get "peeved" when someone doesn't think the same way you do. Offer your opinion once & let it go, In this case: Its sub zero or single digits, I go out to the car & start it without actually getting in because I have mounds of snow or thick ice to remove. Maybe even shovel the area in front of the car that the plow didn't get. Now I suppose I could do all this stuff first, and then get into my icebox car & set off on my trip, but I'd rather warm it up first. Now the chime has a peculiar sound that annoys me. Maybe it doesn't bother you, but it does me. I don't mind the chalkboard screetch but some people go nuts over it......we're all different. Anyway I have to hear that sound day after frozen day & it's unpleasant to me (especially first thing in the morning). So while some folks will jump to the conclusion that I'm totally careless for not wanting to wear my seatbelt, or that I have some other stupid or nefarious thing going on, as you may now perhaps see I have a logical reason for wanting it off. Having said all that, why does my reason matter to anyone responding to the post? I simply asked if there is a way to do such & so. If someone has an answer, great, if not I don't see why it's necessary for lectures from anyone about how I should wear my seat belt, or perform my start sequence in a certain order. Respectfully submitted jeff
  8. This will do the trick, cool beans. Thank You for a simple solution to the issue.
  9. Dude you are too much. Did I say I want to disable the speaker? No, I said I want to either: 1. disable the initial seatbelt chime 2. reduce the volume of the chime 3. change the chime sound Do you really need to be someone's dad and reprimand them for not following your great advice? Gee Mr Cleaver, don't get sore. Wally, The Beaver & I just wanted it a little quieter. Honest, we didn't mean any harm.
  10. Thanks for the reply. I'll look for it again. As I said, I only want to quite it down a bit. Do you know if the sound is a file, wav or mp3 or something else? If so, replacing the file with something else would do it too.
  11. You are exactly right. I assumed that the minder was both pre-start & during driving. I don't mind having an alert, just not so aggressive as it is on the Edge. Do you know it's percise location? I'd like to reduce it's volume by 1/3 to 1/2, perhaps Motorcraft Duct Tape? Thanks for the crarification. jeff
  12. I followed this precisely, still get the blasted chime :<( Any other ideas?
  13. The seat belt minder chime on my 2013 SEL is driving me nuts too. Yes, I always use the seat belt (good habit from flying), but those 4 or 5 chimes before the belt is clicked in place are what's bugging me. The chime in my wife's Fusion is tolerable, it is not in my Edge. Anyway the owners manual has a procedure to bypass the chime, page 41. The procedure doesn't work, at least not for the initial chimes; maybe if you unbuckle while driving it would stop that chime, don't know. The procedure responds just like the description, but the chimes just soldier on as usual. After completing the procedure the seat belt warning light flashes a bunch of times, maybe 10 times or so. The manual doesn't mention that, so who knows what that means. Is there an alternate procedure? I tried to find the chime itself, thought a bit of duct tape over it would quiet it down enough, but can't locate it. I think it's up under the driver's side too high up to reach & do anything to it. Then I thought I'd just disconnect the wire from the seat belt receiver. Traced the wire, it comes around to the front of the seat with a very convenient junction connector. It's a 2 prong connector & I disconnected it, chime silent, BUT then the Airbag Rediness light stays on. Well I'm not driving around without the airbags fully functional so that option's off the table. Although it is interesting, I wonder what the seat belt connection does with the 2 prong connector.....it's not just an open/closed circuit, I checked it for continuity & didn't get anything with it connected or disconnected: neither resistance readings or just continuity. Well if anyone can help with this it would be appreciated. Before my state of temporary insanity changes to permanent. Thanks! jeff
  14. You MUST neutralize the acid first.
  15. What he said. Too expensive + questionable history = Keep Looking I have had buyer's remorse in the past, it's a bitter pill that you re-swallow every time you drive it
  16. Not a lot of experience yet. We have a '13 Fusion, got it in October of '14; and a '13 Edge that we just got in December of 14. So only a few months. Both cars with MFT & both have nav. Neither system has presented any problems. There is a learning curve, but after a week or so you should pretty much have it. I like the system overall. There are a few minor changes I would like but nothing that has be up in arms. For instance I would like each "click" on the audio volume to change the volume about half of what it does, so it would take 2 clicks to change the volume level the same as what one click does now. As I said, no big deal, just my personaI preference but I can certainly live with it (& not file a law suit). I am very impressed & pleased with the nav system.& would rate it excellent. I thought it would just be a big version of Google Maps, but I think it's actually better. Again, there could be more POI's, but not a big deal. Now who knows, one of our systems could act out anytime, but so far I am happy. The problem I had with Ford was vehicle delivery, as in logistics. I ordered an Edge that didn't arrive, so after 12 weeks I gave up & found one on a dealer's lot. Ford was unable to tell me when my manufactured car that was sitting on their plant lot (2 1/2 hours from me) would arrive at my dealer. Now that's stupid. The MFT, that's been OK.
  17. Took the door panel off today....absolutely no way a 6 x 9 will fit.
  18. I have a 2013 SEL, would like to replace the front door speakers with an old set of Planet Audio 6 x 9 triaxials that I once had in the rear deck of an S class Benz. They are pretty big. Think I can get them in there? (big hammer, sheet metal nippers, cutting torch, KY jelly, etc) Planet Audio P6963X. They are 6 5/8 x 9 3/8 x 4. I think they are about 10 years old, but have been in the house for 5 of those. They are in good shape. I wouldn't even mind if they sat proud of the door panel with their own grills exposed. I could fabricate a nice panel to cover the original speaker opening if necessary.
  19. I gave up today. After 12+ weeks Ford is unable to tell me when my car would get to my dealer. Car has apparently been complete for 3 or 4 weeks, sitting in Oakville. A mere 2 1/2 hour drive from my dealer. So anyway I bought another car today. Misleading information followed by no information tested my patience beyond my limits. I am not happy about it either.
  20. My Edge was supposed to take 6 to 8 weeks. I am coming into week 12 with no car and NO SHIP DATE! Ford says the car was built on/around 11/24. They said on 11/30 that the car was "in transit" & would arrive between 11/30 & 12/6. Last week (11/8) they changed the story: car is built, at Ford ready to ship, but that's all they will say. So the "in transit" was not true, and they can't say when it will ship. What kind of customer service is that? Oh, forgot, the car hasn't shipped due to a shortage of rail cars. The dog ate my homework too. Disgusted in Rochester, NY
  21. That hurts! I'm coming into week 10, supposed to be here this week. That's a "spodabe". Hang in there.
  22. My dealer checked VINCENT, I'm on the outside looking in.
  23. Vincent? As in Black Shadow Vincent? I mean I know I'll like my Edge, but yes I too would rather have a Vincent. Ummm, really what's VINCENT?
