  1. Ford don't make mud flaps for the Sport rear, so I went ahead and ordered the ones for the front, which should help reduce the dirt flung up onto the sides.

     

    These are really good quality made n Germany, but don't match the Sport side trim profile - see the pictures.

     

    We're moving into a new home in a week or two, so will need to drill the 6mm hole for the 4th plastic rivet after the move.

  2. I've had my 2017 Sport since 9 March, 2400 mi, and get 20 to 22 mpg with 80% highway and 20% town driving (light traffic) - no lead foot driving.

     

    I reset my No. 1 trip meter every fill-up and the computer mpg is very close to my calculated mpg based on gallons to fill and distance covered.

  3. The cargo area mat feels more plastic than rubber, and they ship it rolled up so it takes a while, and a warm day for it to lay flat.

    In a way, the plastic feel is a good thing when it comes to sliding items forward.

     

    The bumper protector is also plastic type material, looks good and will help in the event of something dragging across it.

     

    The Cover is a bit of a pain in the butt if you have packages that are a little taller than a regular shopping bag, and inevitably when we go shopping at Costco I need to take it off.

    Due too poor packing, it was delivered with a small tear in the material, and the plastic handle chaffed on the black metal square tube - parts.com offered to replace it, but I need to pay return shipping so I'll just live with it, and in future buy this type of thing at my local dealership.

    Of the three things in the kit, if I was buying again, I'd not include the Cover.

     

     

    parts.com were reluctant to ship because they could not find my 2017 Edge Sport VIN on their system, and I had to convince them that I'll not hold them responsible if it did not fit.

  4. I've just bought a 2017 Sport - is there any improvement in the later models PTU's, such as a drain plug etc.?

     

    If not, I'll use the instructions here to add a drain.

     

    I plan to have Ford do the first service and thereafter I'll be doing it, and plan to use RED LINE SHOCKPROOF® GEAR OIL in the PTU, which is what I use in my Harley transmission.

  5. The fouling is a gradual problem in Ford's case, and has been touted as the least severe of any of the auto mfrs worldwide. Also, depending on platform, the problem may be statistically minimal. In the case of the F150, the catch can setup is highly recommended. Whereas in the case of the SHO, very very few cases of a catch can being needed have emerged, especially since the valve cover redesign in 2013. Best way to know if you have an issue with your vehicle is to periodically inspect the turbo piping and the intercooler for pooling oil. A misting is normal, pooling is not.

    At each service I'll do the checks that you suggest, and any sign of oil pooling I'll install one of those catch cans.

  6. I'm a new Sport owner, and was tempted to go with the 3.5L V6 because of concerns with boosted direct injection engines intake fouling.

     

    This thread has been very quiet and a search revealed only this thread, so does that mean owners aren't experiencing this problem - keen to hear feedback before buying one of these UPR kits.

  7. You are going to have to provide details on your Edge. What year is it? Does it have the sport package? For instance, there are no custom fit mudflaps for the 08-10 sports due to the body kit. I've had good luck with the Ford splash guards on my other vehicles though.

    2017 Sport

     

    The Ford ones look good and reasonably priced at $50, but just wondered if there's anything better.

    I'm abroad on a work assignment and was hoping to be back late Jan early Feb, but its looking like late Feb now - I'd like to process the purchase ahead of time so that I can collect as soon as I return and not use my wife's Mini for work.

     

    I haven't bought a vehicle on finance for many years, so would really appreciate advice on this from you folks - I have a $20,000 deposit and no trade-in.

    Should I consider using Ford's finance, or are there better options available?

    Do you think that they'll be open to bargaining the price down?

  9. Thanks for all the comments, it sure helps with the final decision.

     

    The FWD vs AWD decision might be made for me, as all the 2016 and 2017 3.5L V6's that I see listed have AWD.

     

    @akirby , its the 3.5L V6 selection seen in the Edge listing on the Ford web site, but don't know the exact code i.e. 3.5LEB - The Edge Sport would be stretching my budget, so looking at the SEL or Titanium.

  10. I've driven a company car Fusion (2 OFF) for the past 8 years and very happy with the styling, performance and servicing, now that I'll be losing the company car, I need to purchase my own ride.

     

     

    In Jan or Feb 2017 I plan on buying an Edge, 2016 or 2017, but undecided on options.

     

    Engine:

    One of the Fusion's had a 1.5L Ecoboost engine and the performance was impressive, but my concern with the Ecoboost engines is longevity and major maintenance such as intake fouling due to Direct Injection, so has me leaning towards the 3.5L V6

     

    FWD vs AWD:

    I've never owned an AWD so can't make the comparison myself - I'm in Kentucky and we occasionally get snow more than a foot deep, but I've always managed with FWD. There's been very few occasions where I've longed for what AWD could offer in the ice and snow.

    In my case, is it worth the extra for AWD?

     

    Package Options:

    This is another area of indecision, but secondary - I don't plan on Build your Own, so will need to settle on the options on the vehicles that my Ford dealer has in stock.
