  1. Good if you post, but you might be disappointed. There is NO solution currently that will fix the cooling seat issue. Check other threads.
  2. Now I know for sure Ford has an issue with cooled seats, bottom and back. I rented a 2016 (might have been a 2017) Hyundai Santa Fe XL Limited with 400 Km on it; it had cooled seats. Drove it from Montreal to the west coast zipping up and down through the Rockies (7500 Km). Most days were 25-30°C, mostly sunny, until we got to the west coast. When I activated the cooled seats, it took between 5 and no more than 10 seconds for the seats, bottom and back, to feel cool, to a point where i felt the need to lower the cooling from level 3 to 1. On certain days, with the moon roof opened and the A/C off, I felt the same cooling factor from the seats. I know this is subjective, but I felt the seat back cooling as much as the seat bottom. I don't mean to promote Hyundai, I'm just stating that there is IMO a working solution for cooled seats. On another note,I found some interesting technologies in the Hyundai I wish Ford would implement, but that's another topic. I have a few questions for the Ford enthusiasts: 1- How can Ford, apparently year after year, offer an option for cooled seats that doesn't work from their customers' perspective? 2- After Ford heard the negative comments initially, why did they not review the situation and design a working solution for the following years? Hint: look at other manufacturers 3- When Ford offered cooled seats initially, didn't the technical staff evaluate the performance of the proposed solution and compare with the rest of the industry to evaluate its adequacy? 4- Didn't any Ford staff test drive a cooled seat car before signing an agreement with the provider, or better yet enroll some volunteer clients to do so? 5- Did Ford have any measurable requirements for the proposed solution? Apparently, the answer to all of the above is NO. Any counter arguments? Ford does certain things really well, but if it wants to lead, it needs to (aim to) do all things well.
  3. Paul, Thank you VERY much for that diagram. I'd like to mention to you and the other offended poster that my request for the schematics was NOT because of a lack of faith. As you suggest, I believe my technician is either not up to date on technology or possibly trying to brush me off. I'm heading back to the dealer next week, this time armed with your diagram. This should lead to an interesting conversation that starts with "but you told me last time...". Thank you again.
  4. Yep, easy to bump it. I prefer the way it was in my 2011, but can't stop progress
  5. Hi Paul, There seems to be confusion around 'how' the seats are cooled. If you read my previous post, the technician says that the seat back is cooled by funneling up ambiant cool air via a fan at the bottom of the seat. You mention the seat back making use of a TED as well as the bottom. Does each piece, seat back and bottom, have a TED, each with or without a fan? What I'd like to see are the schematics for the ventilated seats, bottom and back, for the 2015 Edge (Titanium). That in my opinion would settled the debate once and for all. It would also help me determine if the technician knows what is is talking about.
  6. Anyone? Some of the posters have access to the schematics. I'd be really grateful: I could then put this to rest and move on with my life
  7. Follow up... Today, the service department replaced a ceiling handle they broke last time while removing the liner. On my drive back home, guess what was back: the "thought it was fixed" rattle !!! I'll check with them on TSB16-0079 brought up by DougS. BTW, it would be useful when we get a TSB applied to our car to ask for a copy later shared on this forum.
  8. I thought I had seen a post on the seat bottom having a TED, but can't find it. Can anyone confirm or refute a TED is used for the seat bottom and perhaps provide details?
  9. Just got back from my 2nd visit to the dealer for the seat back non coolness. Attached is TSB16-0080 which confirms what others have said: it is the same fix as TSB15-0166 plus additional information. I had a good talk with the technician. I've always been under the impression that the seat back cooling mechanism included a TED (ThermoElectric Device). In fact, the seat back only has a blower that sucks supposedly cool ambiant air from under the seat and funnels it up the seat back. This approach probably relies on the fact that cold air falls, hot air rises. But... So, on a hot day, you get the A/C going and, if like me, you leave it on Auto Climate. What typically happens is that the upper vents will get selected because the sensors (I think) detect that the upper portion of the car is much warmer because of heat coming through the windows, and they'll likely stay like that for some time. You may feel the cool air coming out of the vents but the overall ambiant air temperature is far from that. That cool A/C air blowing near the upper portion of the car gets warmed up. By the time it gets to the floor, it's much warmer than what comes out of the A/C vents. So here's what the dealer suggests: select the lower vents, so cooler air gets in the seat back blower. My answer: why did I pay for Auto Climate again? TSB16-0080.pdf
  10. After realizing that the work done last time by applying TSB15-0166 gave no better result, I went back in today. The service rep kept telling he saw with his owns eyes the work done by the technician, to which I replied, "I believe you, but the issue is that it's not working". I showed the service rep what the readings were from my laser thermometer on the seat back that had been on high cool for the last half hour: same as the passenger seat with the cooling set to off. That got the attention of the service manager who is now escalating up to Ford Corp. I'm not expecting any miracle short term. I'm posting this to encourage owners to escalate as well or else I suspect we'll never see a final solution to this issue. By the way, the seat bottom cools no more than 22°C (71.6°F), not sitting on it. It certainly doesn't get any better with my butt on it. I would really like to hear from those lucky ones that say, "it freezes their butt". Try to quantify that "freezing" sensation: Measure if you can with a laser thermometer or give an albeit subjective estimate (range, between 'x' and 'y' degrees) what setting is it one (1, 2, 3) ? What was the ambient interior temperature? How long did it take to get the seat to a sustained cooling level?
  11. Can you expand on 16-0080 being the same as 15-0166? Why would Ford come out with a new TSB number? Personally, I find I really have to get access to the electrical technician in the shop to get more dependable answers, or else it's like the telephone game.
  12. Sure hope this is the right one. I just got TSB15-0166 applied and the result was actually worse than before! Going back in on May 25th.
  13. I purchased my 2011 Edge after lease to sell it right back, with an interesting profit (because of low mileage).
  14. The OP's profile shows a 2016. If the lights are dead, just bring the rig back to the dealer.
  15. Got my Edge back after 1½ days. They did TSB16-0053. Just to be sure, I asked them what was the procedure exactly. They mentioned using some short screws and the rest was unclear. So, can someone post TSB16-0053? On the short drive back home, no rattle. They also did TSB15-0166 (cooled seats). I still have to check that one out when it gets warmer.
  16. In colder weather (-10°C to 0°C), I coud here the rattle every time it seems. Since it's now warmer, I rarely hear the rattle. Mine is in the shop now so I'm a bit anxious that they won't hear the rattle. Anyway, I'll let you know how it turned out.
  17. But how do you power them?
  18. I've seen a few and, yes, they turn heads. In the features, it says "Operating Voltage: 12V DC"... Wonder how you get power to those rims???
  19. In my case as well it doesn't work 100% of the time. It seems to be somewhat sensitive: where you extend your leg, the speed at which you do, how far in, etc. When a system is not reliable 100%, I tend to not use it.
  20. I'm on Sync2, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. Have you tried forcing the Navigation display to night time, assuming this option exists with Sync3?
  21. See this article on Ford's night vision
