  1. Just completed an 11,000 trip in my 2008 AWD LTD Edge, most of it (99%) towing a covered trailer with my MC inside. Now have almost 30,000km on it. Trip was from Ontario to NM up to Alberta via CO, WY and Montana and back to Ontario via the transcanada. Used no oil. Performed flawlessly especially when using cruse control and with the OD locked out. Was very comfortable at 102/105 km/hour (verified using GPS). AC worked more than adequately in temps as high as +38C. Could have used more tourque since gearbox was hunting a bit in the mountains but the HP made the pulling power very acceptable. One time (in the middle of a Manitoba mosquito infestation) the rear door refused to latch using the remote, closed it using the time honoured tradition of brute force and ignorance (Those Manitoba mosquitos have a way of helping you make quick decisions). Problem self corrected later after switching off the ignition to gas up. Note when I tried switching off the ignition at the time it did not work. Mileage was all over the place with a low of 14.1L per 100km to a high of 17.4L per 100km. Lows were coming out of NM and through CO. and in AB/SK in the prairies. Highs were coming across OK, TX and into NM. Only pattern I can see is the direction of the wind although lower octane regular gas in OK/TX/ and NM may have played a role. Once I clicked that their gas was 95 octane where-as everywhere else was 96 and I changed to mid grade mileage improved. However may be nothing more than co-incidence. Speedometer continued to show variations, sometime agreeing perfectly with the GPS and sometime reading up to 5km high. Trend there seems to be that error is greatest when accelerating and almost spot on when de-accelerating. Stopped at Flying J's most of the time and slept in the back so cost of accommodation was (for the most part) $8.50 (Same in Canada and the US) for a shower.
  2. Have followed this topic and have read the cross referenced one from start to finish. Good string, but can anyone definitively tell me if the wiring for the electrochtomatic outside mirror from the MKX is pre-installed in the 2008 edge. Thanks
  3. Have a 2008 LTD AWD with 11,000 km on it. Drove out to Alberta and back for Christmas, 7,000 km. Encountered some "interesting weather". Very pleased with it. Some problems - heater core and ford remote start. Both covered under warranty but did lose the vehicle for a week. Ford dealer very good. As I see it the only competition is the Buick Enclave and it is a lot more money for the same packages plus around here GM dealers are still playing the smoke and mirrors games. Ford dealer gave me best price out the door right off the bat with none of the "offer is only good for the next 29 minutes crap. Would but another one especially if I can afford the Lincoln version.
  4. Using myf TomTom GPS as a guide, my 2008 Edges is high 1km at 60, 6 kmn high at 100 and 2 km high at 120. Nearly had a fit when I found out ! was doing 122 in a 110 zone since I thought I was doing about 115 based on a linear change from 60 and 100 km. I had been doing this speed for about 3/4 hour and at a real 122 that is a ticket
  5. Re the heating issue, see the 2008 Edge forum. There have been reported issues with various actuators and some problems (I was one) who had to have the heater core replaced
  6. Support what previous post said. Have installed by a Professional. I have just had the remote starter installed by a Professional and he had some problems. Apparently it is necessary to remove at least some of the dash. Also note that the aftermarket starter includes rear window defogger on/off that needs a direct line in connection. Also note that a security over-ride module is also required for installation. This is an extra - at least in Canada
  7. Have had my 2008 Edge Ltd AWD about 4 weeks now and never too happy with heater, but!! We recently had our first cool morning at -18C (0.0 F). Heater was definitely not up to par and about half way through a 50 km trip the heater was actually putting out cold air. Stopped at my dealer. After consulting with Ford, it appears that a batch of defective heater cores have been installed in some 2008 models. A new core, which apparently involves a major tear-down, has been installed and it appears to work well. My dealer has really looked after me with a late model AWD Fusion loner for the interim. A effective heater up here in the Great White North as well as the northern US at this time of the year can be a matter of life and death - literally. Do not know if this is restricted to Canada.
  8. I have just put a set of Michelin ice on my 2008. Subjectively I think they are quieter than the OEM Michelin. We have had a lot of wet slush up here in the GWN over the last couple of weeks, traction appears to be excelent.
