  1. I suspect it will be a very poor seller. I also suspect the real world fuel improvement will be very small, if any. Especially if it has to run on premium for optimum efficiency (like the Flex) and the cost of premium is factored in. Another question will be passing power. If you have to do a lot of two lane driving, passing power is (IMHOP) a very important factor because I believe and was taught that one should spend a minimum of time in the wrong lane (I know LEO's disagree since it seems to be one of the common ticketing practices), The current motor and drive train on the Edge is good in this respect. I have to wonder how effective the 4C ecoboost will be.
  2. Never heard of it. Doubt if they would come up to the GWN though. Not a big enough market and CA is so much nicer to enjoy ones expense account than say Toronto or Sudbury in March (know offence to anyone who lives there). Must admit though that I was surprised that I did not get a Product Quality Survey from Ford re the two new Edges I have purchased. I did get one from VW and that was after I purchased a Company Owned Executive Demo car, not even a brand new one.
  3. If I remember correctly the problem with the "transmission" is the PTO and is only applicable to the AWD. Some 08 Edges had problems with the heaters which is the subject of an extended warranty. Some Edges have had problems with the Sun Roof. It is difficult to find out just how serious this problem is but it does appear to more than just a minor issue. When all said and done though the 2008 appear to be a good buy and I believe they are a recommended used vehicle buy on some web sites.
  4. Note my comments apply to Canada, Sirius in the US addresses some of my concerns. I will be cancelling my Sirius subscription when the discounted service ends. I will then put the money into buying songs for my i-pod. There are a couple of music formats that I really like, Folk and blues. Siruis does not have a folk channel, (they used to have one then they cancelled it and replaced it with Coffee House!!!) and their Blues station is awful (IMHOP) compared to XM. In general their "recycle" time seems to be getting shorter. I dont know who their DJ's are but their selection of 50's 60's and 70's music is very narrow leaving out many many songs that were around at the time. As someone has mentioned their audio quality is only so so and recently their "talk" content has gone up. The so called Canadian weather channel is a joke (again IMHOP). On the other side, I have noticed an improvement in local FM stations with less talk (than say a couple of years ago), much better content and I do get real weather and road data. Oh yes, I ride my MC a lot in the summer so I have to pay for a service I do not use. Suspend it you say, read the fine print I say. Get a MC radio, but now since the system in the car is not portable (like it used to be with multiple docking stations) I have to pay for two subscriptions. Now that music storage has become so cheap, I find myself using my i-pod a lot of the time. Finally and I never thought I would say this, but the TV satellite radio provides much better coverage and it, for the most part, is owned by CBC.
  5. Do a forum search, there is an ongoing thread about this issue. Cannot remember the link
  6. I cannot remember the numbers but when I was travelling through Texas and Missouri towing my MC trailer the low grade gas (83 or 85 I think) very definitely gave significantly worse mileage in my 2008. Once ascertained i went to the mid grade that if I remember correctly was was 87 or 88 octane and my mileage came back to normal
  7. Yes, but then depending on my angle of repose I have been able to do it in all the vehicles I have had with a centre console
  8. Stopped by my dealer again today and found that model year info I was given re the protuberance is wrong. Correct data are as follows: 2011 Edge - No data Would appreciate some from the thread participants 2010 Edge - Blind spot mirror Small protuberance as per my previous photo. 3 vehicles 2008 Edge - NO blind spot mirror. Full length protuberance 3 Vehicles 2007 Edge - NO blind spot mirror - NO protuberance 2 Vehicles Salesman calls the protuberance an air deflector. Attached pictures of the 2008 full length protuberance (just for nextime). Could not get pictures of plain mirror mount on 2007 (my poor camera skills)
  9. Congratulations. Shame it had to come to this.
  10. RE I would like to see the differences between the mirrors/bumps, the diferrence is that the bigger "bump" appears to have the same width, height, profile and location as the smaller one(picture), but it runs from the top to the bottom of the mirror mounting plate
  11. Bink 19, have you checked for noise on the passenger side under all wind conditions. In mine it is very dependent on the wind direction and there are/may be times when the drivers side sees noise but the passenger side does not because it is protected by the bulk of the vehicle. I know my passenger says the wind noise on her side does change.
  12. Congratulations. I hope Ford have learnt something but I suspect the MBA's will look at it and say it is "not cost effective" to change.
  13. This is a photo of the protuberance I referred to in my previous post
  14. After yesterdays comment re the outside mirror I did a bit of research. The results are, 1) on a 2011 Edge there are at least two different outside mirror mounting plates. 2) overall in the Edge history there are at least three different mounting plates 3) the difference is in a protuberance about 3/8" high that will be in the air-stream. One has a protuberance about 5" long going from the from top to bottom of the mounting plate just behind the mirror, the second has a similar shape but smaller protuberance of about 2.5" situated in roughly the middle of the mounting plate and the third has no protuberance at all. Based on 3 2011 (Canadian) Edges, all AWD LTD's at the dealers two WITHOUT the small blind spot mirror had full length protuberances and the one with the blind spot mirror had the smaller one. I located what was shown as a 2008 although of course it may have been a 2007 build (like my 1st Edge that I was so happy with) and it had the full length protuberance and no blind spot mirror. I also located a 2007 AWD SEL and it had nothing at all. My 2010 that I believe has excess wind noise has the blind spot mirror and the small protuberance. I will try to get some pictures of mine today and post them. So what is the significance of these three different designs, if any? Whilst I think that the wind noise is worst at the top back of the window, I really am not sure since putting a towel or something just there does not change the wind noise. Air is a funny non intuitive thing, a bit like hydraulics. I cannot rule out that the noise is coming from one place but I appear to hear it as though it is coming from somewhere else. Anyway, there must be a reason why Ford have three different mounting plates. I have asked my dealer to contact Ford. CORRELATION DATA ARE WRONG. SEE NEW POST Added 2010 Feb 3
  15. Most interesting. I would love to know what the difference between the two mirrors is. Do you know if they just replaced the mirror or the mirror and arm? I did notice that mine has a sort of raised rectangualr section that I dont remember being on my 2008 and was going to check it out at a dealers. The more I think about it the more I start to wonder if Ford know something. The fact that someone went straight to it is pushing co-incidence a long way
  16. Just got round to reading this thread since I have a 2010 (not a 2011). I had a 2008 and was very happy with it such that I purchased a 2010. I am not happy with the 2010 due to, you guessed it, wind noise from the drivers door. Basically when I have a tail wind there is no issue and the vehicle is as quiet as my 2008. However any deviation from a tail wind and the wind noise is present. I cannot be sure but it appears to be coming from the rear upper corner of the window and as someone said it sounds just like the window is cracked. The technician heard it and some seals were replaced, to no effect. After further complaining and testing I was told that it was coming from the roof rails and is basically normal. I had roof rails on my 2008, so I cannot accept that. My dealer has tried to solve the problem, but appears to be getting no support from Ford. In fact it appears that the official position from Ford is that this wind noise is normal. Another difference I notice is that when a vehicle goes past me in the opposite direction I hear the "whoosh" much more than I did in the 2008 and when it is raining the rain noise from the lower edge of the door is also greater. My wife, who doesn't ride with me that often, also feels the wind noise from the passenger side is greater than the 2008. I have to wonder if the material used in the door sealing strips is different (cheaper), thinner (cheaper) or has been redesigned (to reduce costs). When the weather gets warmer I will try to track down the exact source using duct tape to mask off parts of the door. This level of noise is not what I expect of a vehicle that costs this much, especially when my Sons Dodge Caravan that cost 2/3 of the Edge is significantly quieter. I used to recommend the Edge to people and I know at least two people who have bough Edges based on my recommendation. I will not but another Edge and I must admit to having serious concerns about buying another Ford because I cannot help but wonder if Ford are going down the marketing route of product cost reduction and by default quality reduction. The same marketing/financial game that (amongst other things) forced another North American company to require tax payers support to avoid bankruptcy. A Japanese Company also apparently tried the same game and their sales were down about 27% last year.
  17. I cannot say definitively if they have fixed it but by default this forum suggests they have. What do I mean? Well go back a couple of years and it was one of the big thread lines. Do you see them now? Do you see any ongoing threads from people who have had them repaired using the "last" ford solution? Make your own conclusion.
  18. I would be most interested to know the age of the previous respondents. I (and others) wonder if Ford have messed up their marketing a bit by putting it on the Edge and MKX since both vehicles, based on price, are targeted primarily at the +50 or even +55 age demographics. For this generation the system appears complex and a Pain to use, so why bother, especially when the old known system works?. This generation for the most part are a) not tech savvy and dont see the need since the old system works. FYI I fit these demographics and for the most part dont use the sync in my 2010. For a start the voice commands are cxxp. The dont recognise my UK accent and in any case why should I have to learn the questions to ask? I am the customer, after all. I still dont know what a folder is, but I do use the bluetooth my i-touch for music. If I was buying a new Edge or vehicle of any sort, the i-sync would be very low on my list of requirement. and if I could get a price reduction by not having it (or if i had to pay a premium) I would take it. All I need is bluetooth and some sort of connection for my music.
  19. Try to get the build sheet or the original sale documents to see if it is a factory installed option or a dealer installed Ford option. If it is either of these it is most likely it is still there since they are very difficult to remove. and it should be possible to get another "key". If it is an after-market one I dont know anything about them.
  20. Certainly true for the 2010 models. I had an older GPS with Blu-tooth. It could be synced but it displaced the phone.
  21. I had arrived at the same conclusion as akirby but for 2010 models up here in Canada there were no deals on the Lincoln but significant deals on Edges. These deals made a significant difference to the cost comparison.
  22. I dont know if the reviewer got his numbers wrong but he was quoting a base line 2011 Explorer FWD at Can$29,999 and an up-market AWD at Can$44,500 ($'s are rounded off based on memory). This would seem to overlap the Edge almost perfectly, which is why I am wondering if he has his numbers mixed up. If he hasn't then I do not understand he marketing behind it
  23. My 2008 and 2010 both have worked as would be expected. Sounds like there may be a problem with yours
  24. Exact description of the well known heater core problem. As bbf2530 says there is a TSB and there is an extended warranty.
  25. Assuming it is the same noise I hear, I reported it to my dealer who contacted Ford and was told it was because they (Ford) had been forced to put a cooling fan into the amp and that what I was hearing was the cooling fan.
