Did it to me several times shortly after i got my 2008 AWD Ltd. Hasn't done it for over a year now.
  2. Like the HP & Torque. Wonder if it will be available on the Edge or if the marketing experts!!! will make it only for the Lincoln to make sure it is seen as an "upmarket" vechicle. Hope the moonroof is an option and if it is not that roof rails can be fitted. Apparently on the MKT the moon roof is standard and as a consequence roof rails cannot be added
  3. Re the customer survey, I never did get one about my vehicle. I admit to being a bit surprised about it. I got two about the dealer experience. Back to the subject. I agree that stuff happens and i really like my edge, but it would behove Ford to remember that one of the reasons people switched to Japanses brands was the buy and drive (for a long time) ability that they got with a Japanese car. Also, how many comments on things like Edmonds and negative web searches start putting people off regardless of how well (or not) it is fixed.
  4. Sounds more like the infamous PTO problem. Check out the forum
  5. Update to original post. Last week the Ford dealer confirmed (using the prescribed Ford test) that there is a problem (I am biting my tongue at this point.) and then advised that they could not do the flush because for engines built before a certain date (2008 April I think he said) an additional part is required. Part is on rush order. Will see what that means. Thank goodness the temp is not too bad at the moment and the tech was smart enough not to dismantle anything, so i do have a running vehicle. Will keep the info coming as I get it. FYI just to add to the issues I now have to have to PTO seal replaced. They are on backorder, but Ford have developed an Engineering solution!
  6. Apparently it is a completely sealed unit and one cannot check the fluid level. My 2008 AWD Ltd is scheduled to get the seal replaced WHEN they can get the seal and bits. Apparently Ford has generated an Engineering solution. Will see.
  7. I have the noise intermittently on startup on my 2008 AWD Ltd. For the most part it last anywhere from 20 to 60 seconds and only occurs the 1st time i start it up in the morning. However, it is getting worse and one two occasions recently during stop and shop trips it came every time I started the engine an did not go away. Did not do it the day i took it into the dealer for a heating issue. One observation is that it continues for a few seconds after the ignition is switched off and gradually runs down - like a fan slowing to a stop, I think it is coming from the rear but to be honest it is one of those sounds that seem to come from anywhere and everywhere. Really sounds like a fuel pump but based on this forum replacing the fuel pump does not necessarily stop it. If it continues this will be a show-stopper, it is really obnoxious.
  8. At the risk of getting flamed I find I have to support the gentleman who is cold. However, in my case I have only minor grumbles about the dealer having been provided with a loaner on all occasions when I have had to take the vehicle in. The dealer confirmed that there is a problem with the heating (I knew that) but could not complete the flush because some additional parts were needed for engines built before a certain date. So 1st there was the special tool and now some additional parts. These parts are on rush, but it seems there is a supply problem so I can expect to be a minimum of a week with only minimal heating. Not good up here in the GWN. Fortunately the weather, for the most part has been relatively mild. Further, I would add that it is not just the personal discomfort but when the temp does drop the defrost is boderline. My problem is more with Ford, This heating problem has been known for at least a year (probably longer) and yet they still do not have all the tools in place to fix it. To add to this situation it turns out that I need a new PTO seal, but again theere is a problem with supply. This problem has been known almost from day 1 but only now is there an "engineering solution" and the parts are "somewhere" in the supply chain. As I said to my dealer, Ford may be very good at looking after complaints (ultimately) but if they end up with a reputation for intermittent quality and/or poor engineering then they are headed for serious problems. Just look at Chrysler. I really like my Edge and I wanted to support a NA Manufacturer who had not gone begging. So a new Ford later this year had been almost a certainty. Now?
  9. It would be most interesting to hear from a Ford mechanic if a special tool is required. It may well be. Further the story is very consistent on this forum and other searches I have done. With the complications associated with engine design for efficiency, I would not be surprised. I know that there is a special tool for changing the coolant on some motorcycles. It can be done without the tool but is a lot less reliable leaving the potential for air in the system and subsequent hot spots. My dealer told me it is at least a two hour job and that the vehicle has to be left overnight so that it is cold when they do the flush.
  10. My local dealer was in touch with ford and they have told them to start with the flush procedure. Ford have sent my local dealer the special tool for the flush and it is going in for it (the flush) on Jan 6. Based on the "facts' as I see them I dont think that will resolve the problem. However, as the dealer says they have to follow Ford's recommended protocol. If the flush does not work then we will proceed to the next step, whatever that is. After yet another cold day with minimal heat I must admit that I stopped off to price out a Highlander. FYI I have just received my letter re the extended heater core warranty.
  11. Based on the fact that I can get hot air out of the upper (airconditiong) vents I am assuming (Yes I know the definition of assume) that it is not a heater core issue. I have to suspect actuators but!
  12. I had the heater core replaced almost as soon as I took delivery of my Edge. For about 2/3 months everything worked as it should then in late winter the odd time there was minimal heat coming from the floor ducts although there was plenty of heat coming out of the vents. Of course Ford could do little because it was a) warm and erratic. Now the problem is back big time and it is no fun when the temp is -20 in the GWN. Specifically minimal heat and an actual cold blast component when it is blowing through the floor ducts. I would guess that the average temp of the incoming air is about 18C. After some discussion and being told this was "normal", my dealer has agreed to look at it (after the new year due to the holidays). A while back someone else had a similar problem, but based on my search the outcome does not appear to have been reported. Does anyone have any feedback? I would like to have some info when it goes in. Thanks
  13. IMHO Power and torque are fully acceptable for normal driving. However they, especially torque, are boderline for towing about 2200lbs, let alone the 3500lbs allowed. For me the Edge is an ideal compromise for performance, economy, comfort, handling and safty. Not too impressed with some of the quality issues though. Should the Edge only come with a 237HP motor as referenced I will be looking for another vehicle (brand?) in a couple of years. By the way, drove the MKT with the eco boost. Excellent. Trouble is that up in the GWN you can only get it with the sun-roof and that means no roof rails (plus I dont like sun-roofs, just one more place for problems). Dont really like the Flex.
  14. Funny you should ask this. I was on my way out west last Christmas when the temp dropped and I could not find the xxx plug. Had to phone back to my dealer in Pembroke from Dryden. Anyway, lift up your hood and you will see something that looks like part of the engine wiring on you left just inside the front and slightly under the front cross member. It unclips and can then be located outside the car for easy plug in. If you still have problems let me know and i will try to take a picture and edit it.
  15. Ditto "blazedup"s comment. Went from Ontario to Calgary for Christmas last year. Overtook a lorry on hard packed new snow in a passing lane just like driving on pavement. Watched a 1/2 spin out as he tried to do the same thing. Not quiet as good as my AWD Passat but then that was a hard act to follow but with the Edge I get ground clearance.
  16. Repeat everything negative said about these head restraints. Cadilac CTS, Subaru, etc. are the same. Stupid safety "nannies" by over-reacting to what I suspect was a statistically insignificant number of events have made the situation worse. Life is a risk!
  17. Likewise. Up here in the GWN I was quoted Can$1000 for all four wheels
  18. I have an 08. When I first used the blutooth the other end had a problem hearing me. Turned up the sound at my end and it increased the sound at the receiving end.
  19. I have the aftermarket ford remote start and auto-climate control. If I put the defrost on when I leave the vehicle at night and then use the remote start in the morning, the defrost works. When I read the booklet that came with the remote start, it indicated that there were two accessory buttons on the fob that could be programmed to operate various accessories. Specifically mentioned were the rear hatch and the rear defogger. The local dealer was able to program the rear hatch to open (note if the car is not un-locked first with the remote, the alarm goes off). However they were not able to program the rear defrost. They contacted ford and were told it was not an available option on the Edge due to the internal system programming. I assume that the remote is "universal" and that it may work on other models such as the Escape. Also according to ford the heated seats deliberately cannot be programmed to operate with the remote due to safety/product liability restraints. I can see that this could be the case due to a lack of self responsibility that is rampant in our society.
  20. See this post on Maintenance etc forum. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=2538 This issue seems to becoming a serious issue and one that will start to impact sales of an otherwise very good vehicle, especially as pottential buyers do their research and keep getting hits on this. (I see there is another thread on the 2008 Edge discussion). In fact I have just asked my salesman for a quote on a new 09/10 Edge, but this and Ford's attitude to it giving me second thoughts. I wonder of the Flex has similar problems? High Pitched Noise - Discovered High Pitched Noise from rear of vehicle w/engine running is fuel pump
  21. I have had it once or twice on my 08 at and shortly after the 1st startup in the morning. After a few minutes it goes away. I dont believe you should have it all the time.
  22. I looked "quickly" at the Morano. I say quickly because after the obligatory test drive with the salesman I wanted to see what numbers I was looking at before I put in any more effort. Turns out up here in Canada the Morano only comes with some very specific and "weird" packages. Like if you want to get a heated passenger seat you have to buy the real upscale package etc. Turns out I was going to have to spend about Can$54,000 to get what i wanted with no "deals" Edge cost Can$46,000 with a number of incentives that made it very attractive. Walked away from a Lexus 350 when i found out how few dealers they have in Alberta which may become our future home. Unlike Ford who will service and do most work on a Lincoln. Toyota will not even service a Lexus. Very happy with my 08 AWD Ltd - a few minor gripes - now if the salesman would get serious about getting back to me with a price for a 09 or even a 10!!
  23. Up here in Canada I have found the following (corrected to US gals) Highway best 22 mpg, city 16 mpg and mixed is 18 mpg typ. When the temp drops the mileage drops but I suspect that is directly associated with the winter tires, warm up time etc. Gas makes a tremendous difference such that when I was in the US I actually got better mileage using mid grade in states where the regular is only 95 octane, the same in provinces that have higher ethanol in regular gas. The one thing I have clearly identified is a head wind vs a tail wind on runs where there is any proportion of highway running. This can knock 1 to 2 mpg just like that. IMHO the engine, whilst OK on horsepower needs more torque. FYI I have a 2008 AWD with 30,000 km on (so it is well broken in), I run with the HVAC on automatic, regular dinosaur oil, and drive "moderately.
  24. No. Regular decayed matter oil
  25. No engine temp fluctuations at all that I saw - I did keep an eye on it initially but then when nothing happened I only watched it sporadically. I did not change the oil. I had it changed just before the trip and as soon as I got home. I reasoned that at 8,000 km between official changes and the fact that it was pretty well all highway driving I did not need to change the oil. When i checked my oil after the trip it visually appeared much cleaner than it does after the normal 6 to 8000 km of general driving.
