  1. Re the so called over reaction, I have to come out on the side of blizzrd 2010, when you have problems like this on what is not a cheap vehicle and that just keep going on and on, you do lose confidence in the car (and the company) as a whole. I also am surprised that Ford have apparently let this go on for so long. It will be interesting over time to see if the 2010's are "bad". My gut feeling is that I am seeing more complaints about the 2010's. I know i wish I still had my 2008.
  2. So happy with my 2008 that I replaced it with a 2010. Now not happy. Wind noise is much higher and it seems that road noise is worse. Mileage is definitely better though and I think passing performance is also better than the 2008
  3. Just got back from a 10,000 km trip. Technically the the Edge performed flawlessly although with only 3000 km on it, that is to be expected. Mileage varied from 30mpg Can (9.3 L/100km) to 25 (10.5L/100km) and for a short time the computer was showing (8.9 L/100km)31 mpg, For the most part it was in the 29 range but it really got the heck knocked out of it in head winds. This mileage is an improvement over the 2008 Edge where the best I could do was about 27. Seems to me that passing performance is better in the 2010 than in the 2008. I have the leather seats, which personally I found conformable being able to put in close to 1000 mile days with only old age stiffness being the consequence. I am really disappointed with the wind noise which is so much worse than my 2008 Edge. In almost anything but a tail wind there was significant wind noise from both the front windows and somewhere on the passenger side there is a component that actually vibrates under certain conditions. The wind noise in a prairie head wind was actually unpleasant. Back to the dealer this week to see what they can do. Does anyone happen to know if the weather seals on the Ford are the same as those on the Lincoln since it had occurred to me and to a salesman i talked to en-route that the Lincoln may have a better rubber seal. It also seems that interior road noise is worse than my 2008. A real disappointment after my 2008.
  4. Hi bbf2530, What you have said is what I had read and thought to be correct until I actually test drove a Flex and looked at the sticker inside the gas filler. It very specifically said "Premium Gas Required". When I brought it up with the salesman, he repeated what the sticker said. FYI, I do live in Canada. All I can say, again not trying to be argumentative.
  5. I suspect the 2.0L eco-boost engine will require premium. I say this because the Flex with an eco-boost engine specifically states on the gas cap door that premium is required. With premium being a minimum of 10% and often 14/15% more expensive than regular gas here in Ontario, the mileage improvements need to be looked at very carefully as a holistic package. Was interested in the Flex until I saw this and looked at what I perceived to be real world numbers. So I bought another Edge.
  6. Thanks for the posting. Dont feel too bad. I had a VW Passat before the Edge where the cruise worked as per your Dodge and I went through exactly the same exercise you did. I suspect there are many more of us out there than will admit
  7. Here in Canada we still have sirrius and XM as two distinct satellite stations. I prefer the XM since it has a folk channel and a real blues channel. Does anyone know if it is possible to change to XM?
  8. FYI. On my 2008,one one occasion the Sat menu simply disappeared. I got in touch with sirrius and while we were talking it came back. The sirrius rep swore she did not do anything.
  9. I questioned it because I thought it was a speaker going on the fritz. It is a motor. Apparently there is a circuit board there and there is a motor with a fan on it to keep it cool
  10. Information I have from Canada shows the 2011 Edge will be basically the same $ as the 2010 for all models. Some of the options may cost more
  11. Bit late to the table, but I have to agree that a combination of poor dashboard lighting and dashboard layout makes reading parts of the speedometer under certain conditions just about impossible, especially when i am wearing my sunglasses. For the most part I have learned to live with it by using the rpm and the cruise and by lifting up my sun glasses. (Before anyone asks, the time it really gets me is in the early morning when the sun is coming up in front of me. I need the sun glasses to deal with the sun but the sensor still has the lights on - wish i could adjust the sensor like I could on all the older less sophisticated vehicles i had)
  12. If you are talking about the cross rails, they are a standard Ford part. Note, the Ford rails are not adjustable and when removed, which is a bit of a pain, the bolt holes show. Compared to others on the market, including some Ford products they are a very poor design (IMOP). Also, the cross rails add a fair bit of wind noise
  13. Thanks. Very much appreciated. They do appear to be very nice mats.
  14. On my 2007 my winter tires did not have the sensors installed. I wanted new rims and at Can$250 I opted not to have them. Thus i have the annoying dash warning light all through the winter, but you do get used to it. Back to your question, the light being on and the absence of the senders had NO effect on the cruise. Just hope Ford Engineers have not made another improvement where the two are connected. I know they have made one so called improvement with the remote start. Right PITA it is.
  15. In the 20 months I had my 07, exactly what you describe happened perhaps twice, three times at most. Never did figure it out. Have not had the 2010 very long so cannot comment. However, my 2010 now stays synced most of the time when I switch off the engine. On my 07 I think it only remained synced about 10 times, the rest of the time i had to re-sync it every time I switched on the engine. Simply thought that was how it was supposed to be, so I never questioned it at the dealer.
  16. Would it be possible to take a picture of the Lloyds mat that covers the "dead area" The picture on their site and elsewhere does not show this feature.
  17. I have towed a covered trailer and MC at about 2200lbs. Apart from mileage - no problem at all. I did not have electric brakes or sway bars, but I did make sure the tongue weight was correct and I soon learnt that you switched overdrive off. Assuming you had both, I would guess you will not have any problems at all although performance will be down and you will have to watch total weight.
  18. Having had a 2008 AWD that I was very happy with, I have just purchased a 2010 AWD Ltd (without the sunroof, partially because it makes it a tight fit for headroom and also because this forum shows it as an ongoing problem). As far as I am concerned the 2008 was definitely quieter, which is something I value highly. Following this thread, my own observations and some other threads, I am becoming a little concerned that Ford may be following Toyota by cutting quality to maintain or increase volume and that the 2010 Edges Ford simply are not as good as other years. Certainly, when I come to change I will look at other brands whereas this time I went straight to Ford.
  19. Will be very interested to see your comments on the 2010 after a couple of months. I made an almost identical change and have the following observations: 1) mileage, based on the computer, is better, 2) Sync works much better, 3) cargo tie down points are useful 4) blind spot mirrors are good 5) cabin road noise has increased 6) wind noise on front windows is has increased
  20. I have a new 2010 Edge AWD Ltd. Traded it for a 2008 Edge AWD Ltd. The 2010 is definitely noisier than the 2008. One of the reasons I bought the 2010 was because I really like the quietness of the ride in the 2008. It almost seems as though some soundproofing that was on the 2008 is not on the 2010. Has the same Michelin tires. Am in discussions with the dealer but I do not expect much since noise, unless one has decibel readings of each, is subjective. Also, put a comment in the in-line survey. Again do not expect any response, but hope live eternal. Just hope that Ford is not doing a Toyota and focusing on volume at the expense of product.
  21. Are you sure the noise is coming from the speaker? I had a "noise" coming from the same area whenever the radio had been on and then switched off or when the sound was very low and regardless of whether the car was running or not. I thought one of my speakers was going bad on my 2010 Ltd and brought it up as a potential warranty issue. Cannot remember all the details, but Tech advised that ford have put a cooler fan on a circuit board that is associated with the rear speakers.
  22. FYI, based on my recent experiences looking at alternate vehicles, Toyota, Honda, Subaru and GM are the same in the models i looked at. The Toyota and GM sales rep were well aware of the issue since both were able to rotate the head rest in a matter of seconds. I ended up buying a 2010 Edge LTD and my seat of the pants feel is that the problem is not as bad as it was in the 2008 LTD with the "upgraded" seat package
  23. I had a 2008 AWD and I found pulling about 2200 that I could just start to feel the impact of the additional load if I locked out overdrive. In other words the Edge did not seem to hesitate or lug at that load. I suspect, and i have talked to a Highlander owner who confirms my suspicions (A highlander has about the same HP and torque as an Edge) that at about 3500lbs one really starts to feel the effect. Go above that and I think you will be pushing the limits big time
  24. Positives for the LTD. The power rear liftgate is well worth the money since it can be activated either by the key fob or from two inside switches, a real boon when your hands are full. IMHOP the sound system is a definite improvement. Depending on where you live the heated seats are well worth the money and are an extra on the SEL. Again depending on where you live, the heated side mirrors are really worthwhile. Finally the fold flat passenger seat is a very useful feature should you ever have to carry a long object.
  25. Re Pics, 1) not sure how to do it. 2) it's just a plain pearl white with no other visually redeeming attributes except perhaps that the wheels are as shiny now as they ever will be. I tend to focus on function rather than form
