  1. Ok, so after just a hair of research, it appears that is in fact correct. This new 8 speed is based off of the newly co-developed transmission, but the ST is a carryover from the previous (also co-developed between GM and Ford, just from 2002 instead of 2016/17) 6 speed. That is very odd to me that they would upgrade in "pieces" like that. It's still odd and, while there is a good theory, I'm still curious as to the actual reason why and how this was done.
  2. I understand that the 8 and 10 speed trans were both co developed with GM (GM having a 9 speed FWD, the trans aren't really shared, they just happened to be developed together, which isn't necessarily the same thing). But I am asking why the 7 speed is only being used in the ST and not the other edge trim levels. Is the 7 speed going into any other Ford applications at all? or just the edge ST?
  3. Maybe, but I imagine the cost savings of removing a gear (by not purchasing an 8th forward gear, and assembling one less gear into the assembly) and the (minimal) weight savings would probably be enough to actually re-engineer the gear box. Plus the added performance benefit of having a gear with an optimal ratio in between gears 2 and 3 I think would be of greater benefit than simply choosing one over the other. Again, I have no insight, but using my engineering/accounting brain cells, for whatever that's worth, that's how I see it
  4. I wonder why only the ST got a 7 speed... I'm sure it has something to do with performance, but I obviously have no additional insight on it
  5. Looks like they still have the same old gauge cluster ?

    ZFG Tune

I fairness, I like the tune and I have had zero issues with it, but I feel like it leaves a lot on the table with regards to trans tuning and maybe even building and holding power. Although I could be wrong because I have never had any other tunes on my Edge. I think if I don't use an ethanol tune I'll stick with my Unleashed tune, but if I got with ZFG I'll get the 93 AND the E50 tune
  7. I have a hard time believing your AWD overheated if the temps are below freezing AND you weren't pushing the vehicle hard. Unless you have low or incorrect fluid (wrong viscosity) in any of the AWD gear boxes. I am not sure if you are getting an "overheating" error or code but it sounds like an issue with something else that is manifesting itself an an overheating issue.

    ZFG Tune

I currently have a 93 octane tune from Unleashed Tuning but I am thinking about switching to ZFG for both a 93 octane tune and an E50 tune. Does anyone have any experience with either tuner, or preferably a viewpoint from someone that has used both tuners?
  9. Initially I felt the same way about my 2020 Explorer. But the longer I own it and the more I look at it the less it bothers me. I have the 10" portrait touch screen in mine, but I think even the 8" touch screen is not "molded in". I can't find a great side view of the 10" screen but here is one, you can see where the back has a mount that reaches up almost to the top of the screen. I suppose to alternative to having a screen that doesn't look "built in" to the car would be to either create a larger dash to intentionally fit it in (losing visibility out of the windshield), or move the screen down, which moves the controls and leaves less storage space.
  10. I think Tesla was the first to have the big portrait touch screen, which is exactly my point. Some one had to do it first, and then when they found out everyone loved it all other OEM's started following suit. You could say the same thing about the 2019 ram and 2021 F-150. Ram had the big portrait touchscreen first. The 2018 Navigator had a large, 10" landscape touchscreen. I guess I'm just not entirely sure the point of saying Ford (or any OEM) copied another OEM, other than you're hating on it. Maybe I'm missing your point? ?‍♂️
  11. Everyone copies everyone at this point, to some degree. This doesn't make me like the upgrade any less. I am personally very excited about sync 4. If it is half as big of a jump as going from Sync 2 to Sync 3, It'll be well worth it
  12. There is is @onyxbfly beat me to it. That thread has all of the information you need to make the upgrade
  13. If I can find the thread I will post the link to 2gfusion where they have a very thorough process on how to upgrade from Sync 2 to Sync 3
  14. I had the same issue and the fix was simply to replace the purge valve. It was under an extended warranty so I just let the dealer replace it
  15. Yes, you will need a new touch screen and APIM (the module that attaches to the back of the touch screen). While Sync3 is more-or-less plug and play, there are also some programming updates that will need to be made (updating the as-built data) in order for it to work correctly. It's not hard, but it's also not as simple as changing out the APIM.
  16. Nice! I wanna see the results!!

    2021 Center Stack

Agreed, either Ford copied the Explorer interior exactly or this is an Explorer. This looks identical to my Explorer ST, minus the large 10" screen
  18. No worries, I suppose my post wasn't very clear. Omar, thanks for the clarification on the age of the MKX cluster. I did see where the one member had gotten a hold of a 2019 Nautilus cluster. I really hope he can figure out how to make that work because I will absolutely upgrade to that one if possible.
  19. I understand his reference. I was saying, in my post, that I was comparing the Lincoln MKX cluster I installed (which I assumed the design to be about 5 years old) to a brand new all LED cluster out of my Explorer ST. I don't know when Ford started using that style (Lincoln style) cluster, but I assumed it was 2015-ish. My point was that I didn't appreciate the Lincoln style cluster as much as I should have after swapping it out with the old cluster (the 2011 variant) used in higher trim level edge's and Fusion's.
  20. The cluster to which I was referring with the "5 years old" comment was the upgraded cluster from the MKX that I installed n my Edge. Is that also older than 5 years old? I don't actually know how old they are
  21. So after spending a little more time with the new cluster, I would consider it to be a major upgrade. Not because I learned anything new other than how to appreciate it more. About a month before I installed my new gauge cluster I got a 2020 Explorer ST which has an all LED cluster. It was an unfair comparison on my part to expect a 5 year old cluster to be on par with a brand new one, but at the time that was my thought process. I'm very happy I made the upgrade
  22. Yes, I texted Dan the same day and he actually told me to look out for it before it even happened. So as far as I am concerned he is off the hook, I just haven't reached back out to him yet. For now it is more of an annoyance than anything. I just shut the car off, open the door and restart it and it pops back up every time so far. Is this the same thing as the "KAM" (Keep Alive Memory) reset you can do through the tuner? I'll do that to see if it helps.
  23. I forgot to update. I got my cluster installed the same day I got it back. It is a nice upgrade and I like it, but can't say that I love it. I suppose I wouldn't "unspend" the money if it were possible, but I certainly could've held off longer. Either way I do not regret it. The only issue I am having is that when I remote start the vehicle, the left hand side info center (in the tachometer) does not work, but when I get it and start it with the push button start (no remote start) the info center works just fine. I think the entire install took me 20 minutes, it was super easy.
  24. So y'all motivated me to do my own gauge cluster swap. Already got an MKX cluster, had Dan reprogram it, just swapped the lense (I used tooth picks on the clips instead of all of my good silverware hahaha). Took me about 10 minutes to change the lens including getting out and putting away everything. Now I just gotta swap the cluster in the vehicle.
