  1. So then just find a part out of a junkyard and put it in. Far better chance of success than trying to rebuild on your own.
  2. I don't think #2 is an option. The PTU is not serviceable and therefore you won't be able to buy parts for it. Besides, the labor of removing and re installing is generally more than the cost of the part anyway.
  3. You can find everything you'd need to know about the maps at www.here.com. Follow the shopping tab and it will explain to you the update process. You can also check their maps to see how they are mapping the roads in your area.
  4. This thread is about the US market Edge, not the global one. Just because a feature isn't offered in the US doesn't mean that it won't be on other market's versions. For example the MKX has had power-folding mirrors available in non-US markets for many years. If US customer's wanted to pay for them, Ford would be offering them. But Ford looks at more data points than just a handful of internet forum posts when they make these decisions.
  5. The SQ5 starts at $52K and that doesn't even include color! You have to pay more if you want anything that's not black or white. Doesn't include NAV, HD radio, rear camera at that price. Plus it has 2in less rear leg room and about 10% less cargo space. That's not a reasonable comparison.
  6. There is a TSB out for this; 12-13-8. It basically puts a chrome plastic trim ring over the edge of the wheel.
  7. There is a TSB that has no been published to fix the ambient lighting issue. There is also a new software update available (apparently not available to everybody today, but it will be shortly). However the two are independent, the only way to fix the ambient lighting is to have the dealer perform the TSB, updating to the latest MFT will not fix it as it's a configuration setting that must be changed, not a software issue.
  8. The fix for the ambient lighting involves the configuration settings, not the software. Configuration settings stay the same no matter which software level you have, so get the ambient light fix now, the software update won't fix it. BTW, the update was just made available for my Fusion today.
  9. What you're talking about has nothing to do with MFT. The nav data is all part of the SD card, the MFT update won't change that. The visibility of the roads is also not a MFT thing, it's an industry standard protocol that determines which categories of roads are visible at which zoom levels. You would likely find that any other automotive navigation systems is exactly the same. Garmin doesn't have to meet the same standards though since they are portable devices.
  10. To the OP, do not bother with the Techron. Your EB engine is a direct injection engine, the Techron will not work and could cause damage to your engine!
  11. Ford can't even get the dealer's to set the tire pressures correctly, can you imagine them expecting the dealer to remove blocks from springs? People would be driving off the lot and getting into accidents and suing the crap out of Ford left and right. The tie-down hooks are on the body, not on the suspension. So when you tie down the car, it's doesn't bounce around.
  12. Every MKX leaves the factory with plastic covers over the wheels that are put on there specifically to avoid "warping" the rotors (it's not really warping, it's pad material transfer and rust). The dealer's are not supposed to take them off until they prep the car for delivery, but chances are they were long gone on yours. There's no such thing as "shipping blocks" inside the springs. The vehicles are tied down tightly which compresses the suspension on to the jounce bumpers so no extra block is needed. Check the tire pressures and make sure they match what's printed on the door jamb sticker. The windnoise certainly isn't right though, but could be dried out seals depending on how the car was stored. Buying cars is a lot like buying fruit. The longer it sits in the store the bigger a discount you get. But just like fruit, a stale car isn't going to be the same as a fresh one.
  13. Man, what was Ford thinking, spending billions of dollars every year on Research & Development and billions more to comply with CAFE regulations when all they need to do is install one of these things!!!
  14. The 2010 Edge has 25 TSBs written against it. Multiply that by 10-15 different models times the 3-6 years that warranty coverage applies and you have hundreds of TSBs out there. There is no way a tech can be aware of all of them. Besides, I would expect that the tech doing tire rotations is one of the "entry level" guys who hasn't been through a lot of training and hasn't had exposure to TSBs. Even then, not all customers consider all things to be problems. Ford's entire business plan is based around the fact that not everybody is an extremely picky customer and while some might complain about an issue, others won't. If Ford just went ahead and fixed everything that wasn't perfect without a customer asking, they would be broke in a few weeks.
  15. Google will never find an OASIS report. OASIS reports list all the warranty claims for a vehicle. If this were available to the public, then all of Ford's competitors could search and find everything they could want to know about Ford's warranty and gain a big competitive advantage. The actual OASIS on this vehicle is pretty clean, just the brake booster TSB and a couple of rattles. It's a very late build 2011 - built in June 2011, so that should mean most of the bugs were worked out.

  17. The A3 card is just as good as the A5 and is what your car would have come with initially. If they wrote it in the contract that they would give you an update to the A5, then that's fine, but the only way to get an A5 card for your 2013 is to pay for it, whether it's you or the dealer who pays is up to your contract, but it won't be Ford. BTW just so you're not confused, the maps are all on the SD card. Pop out the SD card and it will say A3 right on it. The only way to update the maps is to put in a new SD card. Also "do all the outstanding TSBs" doesn't make any sense. TSBs are ways to fix problems. If your car doesn't have the problem, you don't need to do the TSB. So if the only way to know if your car had work done is to pull work orders, then you don't need the work done. What exactly is it that you wanted them to do?
  18. If you had to do research to find out the problems on your car, then they're not really problems. Just because the TSB is applicable to your vehicle doesn't mean that your vehicle actually has or will ever have the problem described in the TSB. If you expect your dealer to fix problems you don't tell them about, you will be dissapointed.
  19. If your car isn't included it's because it wasn't built with a bad part. There are many different ways a brake booster can fail. Ford's extended warranty only covers one type of failure. Your car likely failed in a different way, even though it's the same part. Every part on every Ford is designed to last 150K miles. So no part should ever have to be replaced before 150K miles, but that's not how the world works. The warranty you paid for is very specific on what is covered, it does not include your opinion on what should not break at what time.
  20. That's not what I meant at all, running at the maximum psi on the sidewall is dangerous! That high a pressure significantly reduces your contact patch and will make your vehicle take much longer to stop in an emergency situation. I'd recommend sticking to the pressures on the door sticker or a little bit over, but nowhere near the max pressure.
  21. You have to look at the axle, not the total vehicle. When you load a trailer that's 3800lbs, you're probably going to have about 15% tongue weight = 570lbs. That weight acts behind the rear axle, so it probably puts about 650lbs on the rear axle (and take 80lbs off the front). All the luggage you're adding in the rear also goes almost completely on the rear axle to, so you need to remember that. But it does seem this would still add up to less than the ~4000lb capacity of the two rear tires, so that isn't likely to be an issue. Just make sure you keep the pressures up.
  22. Power isn't the only thing you need for towing. Are you still on the stock tires? Have you calculated how much extra load capacity they have?
  23. I spent 5 years driving my Canadian car in the US through college, then 8 years driving a US car in Canada, now I have 2 Canadian cars and 2 US cars and I spend half my day driving in Canada and half in the US. You get used to it.
  24. To the OP, I suspect you need to reconfigure the settings in the Sync module. But this isn't something you can do without a dealer diagnostic tool, and even then it's not something dealer's are trained to do.
  25. A 14K mile used car will always be a good deal compared to a new one.
