2025 Nautilus Order Guides - U.S. and Canada
Davidoo replied to Haz's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Yes, a 4 cylinder in a car that size is a deal breaker for me. If only they had an ST model! -
Yes, a lot of that is different than the vehicles we had in the 70s. I also get that if you are pulling a trailer it should be done more often. In the old days there was just a transmission and rear differential, now there is a third item, a PTU? Obviously I haven't done this kind of maintenance myself in decades because I don't keep the cars long enough.
-
I get it, but wow, I just can't imagine changing the transmission fluid in a 2-year-old car. I mean, I always do the oil changes a bit before recommended, but I have to say that I've been driving since the 70s and only ever changed transmission fluid on a vehicle once on one I bought used with and unknown service record. I never keep anything more than 100,000 miles and knock on wood, never have had a transmission issue. Are there 3 things you are changing? I thought transmission and PTU were the same thing. Are you changing rear differential at 2-year intervals as well?
-
That's great information. I guess I'm confused though how in any way a 22 ST (I have one with 20,200 miles) would require changing at just 2 years.
-
I'm getting the adapter soon and already have the FORScan software. Does anyone know if the turn signal volume is modifiable? I have a 22ST and I think it is ridiculously loud. Conversely, my fiance has a 23 Escape PHEV and it so low the only way you can hear it is if you are stopped with no radio on, and it is barely perceptable.

22 edge air barely blowing
Davidoo replied to Gibsonguy86's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Is it only happening when you stop at a traffic light? If so, the auto start/stop feature to conserve gas is initiating, and that slows the blower way down, and it should start blowing hard when you start moving. If that's not it, sounds like a climate control or some sort of damper issue with the system. Should be covered under warranty. -
Heated and Cooled Seats
Davidoo replied to Wedgeamatic's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I'm pretty sure this is normal behavior. I have a 22 ST. If I have the A/C on and the stop/start cuts off the engine at a light, I can hear the main blower fans slow down and the cooled seat noise disappear as well. Otherwise, it would pull too much load off of the 12 volt battery. This only lasts up to at most 30 seconds for me, as I will hear the engine come back on and all blowers go back up if I sit at the light very long. I'm in Phoenix and it has been over 110 degrees recently, and in most cases the start/stop feature doesn't even engage in that heat because I'm sure there are programming parameters such as ambient temperature and what you have it set on in the car. I don't think anything is wrong with yours. I'm assuming all your fans come back on to what they were set for if you leave the controls alone and press the accelerator and the engine starts? -
Haz, I have a question for you on this. How do the versions listed in the pdf document relate to the Power-up versions? I know this is the Edge forum, but you have been so much help on my Edge questions, I thought you might know about the same issue for an Escape. My wife has a 23 Escape plug in hybrid. When I check for updates, it says there aren't any, but shows Power-up version 4.2.2 with an exclamation mark and the wording "Not Completed." I've tried to update many times, as well as setting the auto update times, but no change. Now the odd issue is that when I check the "About Sync" screen it shows the Software Version is 23291, which is actually a higher version number that shows in the pdf in the link you attached, which is 23223. I thought Ford kept the pdf updated in the link, but evidently, this Escape has a higher version than shown on the chart, yet shows an incomplete update. So how does Power-up 4.2.2 compare to Software Version 23291, or are they completely unrelated? Thanks! Dave

Ambient lighting won't stay on
Davidoo replied to Davidoo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
They eliminated the ability to change the color starting in 22 or maybe 21. I had a 17 Fusion that I could pick about 8 different colors. For me though, they did recently fix the original problem for which I started this thread, and the Ambient Lighting setting seems to be staying on. -
Ford Power Up (sync 4 update)
Davidoo replied to hanoudi's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
My 22ST has Sync Power Up version 4.2.4. My car is in the garage at the house most of the time and I know it connects to my wifi when I get in my driveway. I remember the last update was at least a couple of months ago. If you connect to your home wifi, you can go to the settings, I think software updates, and when I do that it manually checks for updates each time. -
I think you are right and it is normal to not look as new in the overflow tank as what comes out of the bottle. Every vehicle I've had evaporated a bit after a year or two and I had to add some. I haven't even added a total of one cup to my 22 ST in 2 years. I was more concerned about the color not being as bright as new.
-
I'm not sure I really needed to add any. Now today, driving it a while, I checked it and it is about an inch OVER the max line. I know that won't hurt anything as if it ever does get too high the car will spit it out of the overflow if needed. So, I probably didn't need to add any....I just noticed the color after 2 years wasn't as vibrant of yellow as it is coming out of the bottle.
-
I've had my ST for 2 years now and zero issue. I check all the fluids regularly and I think about once a year I've noticed the coolant gets toward the MIN line on the overflow canister. I added a little pre-diluted Motorcraft Yellow coolant about a year ago, and now again this year. I don't find this out of the ordinary to top it off on any other vehicle I've owned about once a year. What I did notice that the coolant that came out of the new container was a much brighter neon yellow than the coolant in my overflow tank. It has a little darker, dull look to it, albeit still yellow. I'm assuming this is normal due to wear that the coolant won't maintain the bright color right out of the bottle, but concerned about oil intrusion I've read about other engines. I don't think the 22 ST with the 2.7L Turbo has this issue. Just wanted to check with anyone else with an ST a couple of years old and see if the bright yellow coolant has lost some of its luster. I don't have any evidence of coolant in the oil, and I don't think it unusual to add not even a half-inch to the overflow canister once a year. Thanks!

Thanks again Haz. The walk test for my 22ST with the B&O goes through them in no particular order that I can detect, and has them numbered from 1 through 12. I get speaker 1 is the front center and 7 is the subwoofer. I'm assuming since 2 is the right front door speaker that the one that pops up for 8 is the left door? It doesn't really matter as they all work.
-
It worked! Thanks! I did notice they changed the speaker walk test from when I had my 17 Fusion. Back then, the speakers went in order, from front left tweeter, center, right tweeter, etc.... Now, it just says speaker 7, speaker 12, speaker 11, and I have no idea which ones they are. Some speakers emitted a high and low pitched sound while others just one sound. Still, you can tell if all of them work, so I guess that's ok.
-
I agree. The only reason I didn't get it on my 22 ST was the lack of a spare tire. I have read that you possibly can get one and it will fit, but that was not the case with the 2017 Fusion plug in hybrid. Even if you could find one that worked, it wouldn't fit in the trunk.
-
Thanks Haz, I'll try this one. Will be a few days before I am able to see my car again.
-
Hope you get an answer. I've tried every suggestion and can't get my 22 ST into that mode or the speaker walk test.
-
I have a 22 ST and love it. It is the quietest riding car, but definitely has the power to pass or go up steep mountain passes when you need it.
-
I don't think they have put a paper copy in the cars for a few years. My 22 Edge ST didn't have one. I can login to my Ford website or see it on the car's display, but I still think it is a cheap move. There may be times when you need to look up something and may not have access to the electronics.
-
I thought this was normal behavior. I've had the Sync 3 and 4 systems in my last 3 Fords, two Fusions and now the Edge (a 22 ST). When you connect your phone to Sync Bluetooth, all you are connecting is the phone call side, such as making calls and receiving texts. The sound input is an entirely different setting if you want to hear music from your phone. For all the vehicles I've ever owned to get music from my phone I've had to select the phone as the source. Otherwise the sound output stays on AM, FM, or SiriusXM.
-
I have a 22 ST, and I believe it was the first year they cut out the hood insulation. I ordered one and installed myself in less than 2 minutes. I didn't try to get the engine cover as I agree with others that it is not worth it and not a big deal.
-
Thanks Haz! Well, the photo I attached to my last message shows the label that is on the left hand side of the valve cover (standing in front of the vehicle). Could that be the label for the engine even though it doesn't look to be the same color as the example label in your post? It appears that is from a 2014, and possibly the label is black with white letters now. If that isn't the label, I have no idea where in the heck the vaccuum pump is located. If this is the correct label, then I'm in luck because that engine was built on March 17, 2022, well after the October 2021 date when they changed the type of metal in the valve. Thanks! One odd thing is my label also shows FWD as the "drive type" even though all the STs were AWD in 2022. I suppose that engine works in either type of drive, so maybe they simply specify it as compatible for FWD.
-
So the big question for me is how can I find the engine build date for my 2022 ST with this engine? The assembly date was in early April of 22 and I didn't get the car until late April 22, and it says they changed the way the parts were made to eliminate the problem in engines during October 21. Would be nice to see if mine was made before or after that date. Don't know if the engines are made just shortly before assembly, or if they're stored for months prior to going in a vehicle. I can't find anything on the engine except this large sticker near the oil filler. Could 229 mean 2022 February 9th?
