I have a 22 ST with almost 4,000 miles. Around town I get 18 to 20 mpg. I just took a 900 mile round trip through some mountains from Phoenix through New Mexico and got about 21.5 mpg. The thing goes up mountain grades with ease when the turbo kicks in.

OK, I see then. When I paddle shift (which isn't often because it seems silly) I can go through gears 1 to 7. So, I guess that 1 is really the old 1, then 2 through 7 were formerly 3 through 8? I thought that since I could paddle shift and get to 2nd, that it was the "hidden" 2nd gear, but they must have removed it from even being accessible at all, not even manually.

I was out a lot in the heat today, nearly 110 her in PHX. I tried a harder acceleration from a dead stop and didn't notice it "slipping" so to speak, but more of a bump when it shifted out of 1st gear. I do know that for the 22 Edge's they blocked out 2nd gear from the normal automatic shift pattern. I have always chalked up that somewhat rough (although rough is really too extreme from what I'm feeling.....just not as smooth as the other shifts) shift to the fact it is shifting from 1st to 3rd. You can get into 2nd if you use the paddle shifters. I know there are other threads talking about whey they deleted the 2nd gear from the automatic shifts. So Haz, does this mean every vehicle has this problem? The message says the vehicles "may exhibit transmission slip." If the half pump seals are bad, then I would think ALL would exhibit that. If there is a recall, this would be a lot of vehicles from 2018 to 2022. I actually had to have the transmission replaced in my 2017 Fusion under warranty, and they had to remove the engine to do it.

Wow, I just looked at my window sticker and guess what day mine was built on? March 16, 2022, of course. I swear I have noticed this on acceleration from a stop, and it is beastly hot here in Phoenix in the summer. Should I report this to the dealer? The last thing I want is the dealer screwing up my new vehicle by doing a major repair. They always mess up something. What does it mean "Less than 5,000 miles." Does that mean it will go away with more miles.

Sync 4A disasters, am I the only one?
Davidoo replied to Xfire's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
My 22 ST does the same thing with the Ambient Lighting. After a couple of days it always turns itself off. I just got an update yesterday, so I'll see after a couple of days if that did anything. -
Yes, the gap near the hitch is the same as what you shared in your photo. Maybe they have to leave that area more open around the hitch because of the chains that hook up near there?

The dealer finally got the rear deflector part and they installed it Friday. I paid $117 plus tax for the part and nothing for the install. At least that was something positive. Now I have the hood insulator and the rear bumper cover is secure and not flapping in the wind. What a shame they are cutting out parts. I can't imagine what they will leave off of the 23s.

Recirculated air not working
Davidoo replied to Edhuna's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
My guess is the little damper or door that moves when you press that switch is stuck or the motor that moves it has quit. I've had that happen with other Fords before.....and it was a nightmare to fix....they had to take the whole dash out of my Taurus, but that was about 10 to 12 years ago.- 1 reply

Thanks Kclonn. I'm sure I'll be able to do it. I noticed on the bottom of my bumper cover where the 4 holes are (2 on each side of the hitch) on the inside top of the bumper cover there appear to be some type of built in clips on top of each hole. My vision isn't good enough to tell if they are threaded. Did yours have those, and if so, did you slide the new deflector in between those so it is sandwiched between the bumper cover bottom and those additional clips? I too would like to see a photo from someone with an earlier 2021 that had this part on. I suspect that Ford may have just used the push in black fasteners that have a wide collar on the top so it wouldn't need a washer. Those clips hold lots of parts of the car together and might work as well. Thanks again.

I have the rear bumper part and the hood insulator on order. Should both be in Friday. So, for the rear bumper part, you didn't have to take anything off to put this on? When you say you had to round up some screws, were they for the 4 attach points to the rear bumper cover at the bottom? It looks like for the two upper forward sides, you just took the nut off of the screw sticking out that was already there, put the new part on and tightened it down. Is that correct? Also, what do the 4 screws you bought for the bottom 4 holes on the bumper cover go into? When I look at mine they are just 4 holes and it looks like the new part slides in-between a small plastic bracket on the inside edge of the bumper cover above the holes. Are these threaded so the screws just go in, or did you have to buy washers and nuts to put on top of the screws as they come upwards through the bumper cover. Maybe you could send a picture of that that cross section with the screws going up looks like?

I have a 22 and it is completely unacceptable without this shield (Ford also calls it a deflector). The bottom of the rear bumper cover is completely loose and flaps in the wind on the freeway. I went to my dealer as mine has less than 1500 miles. They had the same info MLTEdge posted. I had them order the part. They agree it is ridiculous it is missing and have had other complaints. They said they would "help me" as much as possible with the install. Hopefully not too much as the info from Haz above indicates they can install without removing the bumper cover.
-
Yes, please let us know how it installs when you get it. I'm still thinking of going to the dealer and letting them know it is missing and see what they say, but sure it will be the usual "they're all like that" BS.

Thanks Haz, that is great information. I guess the bigger question is why did Ford stop putting this rear center bumper cover shield on the vehicles in 2021 and for all the 22s? It doesn't appear they couldn't get the part and just left it off because they are available for ordering. Were they left off for a specific reason, such as the hot exhaust pipe is too close and could cause a fire? I just know there had to be engineers looking at this and there was a decision made to stop putting them in. I'm not sure it was a good decision because this thing is very loose on the bottom, but I'm hesitant to put something on that the engineers saw fit to leave off.
-
Do you know if it just clips on with those push in clips, or you have to take the bumper cover off? There's plenty of room in there. If it involves taking the bumper cover off there's no way I would try to do that.
-
So, is this something I can put on myself, or does the bumper cover have to come off to get this thing on? I don't think I can drive this thing around with the rear bumper so loose like it is now. Just can't imagine this is normal.

What a coincidence, I just put some zip-tie straps on my 22 ST today. There is no rear bumper cover shield on these vehicles. I went to the dealer when I noticed how the bottom isn't attached to anything, yet there are 4 holes there that look like they should clip to something. They had 4 or 5 new ST models with trailer hitch, and every one of them was the same. I can imagine at higher speeds this thing is just flapping in the wind. At least the ties will stop that somewhat. If you just touch your foot on the bottom of the bumper cover, you can move it back and forth several inches and even the fake chrome tailpipe extenders move like crazy. The dealer also told me this is how they are supposed to be. I saw this topic on the Ford Edge ST Nation Facebook page. Evidently they are all like this. Very poor workmanship for a $50k plus vehicle. Here's the link to the facebook page. The post is from July 2nd regarding loose rear bumper cover. Ford Edge ST Nation | Facebook

Ambient lighting won't stay on
Davidoo replied to Davidoo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Thanks Haz. One thing though, at least for the 22 model year, the ambient lighting is only blue. I've seen people that have verified that in other forums as well. There's no setting to change the colors like we had before. Not a big issue, just a little annoying that it won't hold the setting. By the way, I never could get the Bezel Diagnostics to work with any of the button combinations suggested, even the one straight from the Ford procedures you provided. -
I have a 22 ST that I've only had 2 months. Every time I turn the ambient lights on that show up light blue on the floors and console areas, the next time I start the car, they are turned off in the Ambient Lights settings in the Sync 4A touchscreen. I noticed they weren't on last night while driving, turned them on and they worked fine. Got in the car this morning and they were turned off in the settings again. Seems odd to me that the setting would turn off by itself. Doesn't do it every day. I've had the setting stay on for 3 days before, but it always eventually turns itself off. Any ideas?

I have the 12 inch portrait oriented screen on my 22 Edge ST, that has the Ford Sketch and games on it. It is definitely the 4A, but odd when I check the version is says Sync 4. Not sure why. When I ordered it with the dealer it also said it was 4A.
