WE WANT APPS ON MY FORD TOUCH!
ls973800 replied to CinnamonEdge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have tried to use Sync Destinations, but I have not been able to get the information sent to my car successfully. Do you know the trick? It's funny, I have had problems using the Mapquest Send to Car function, but never had a problem with the Sync Destination sending it. I just used the app on Tuesday and sent directions to the car with no problem. I think I have trouble with Mapquest because of using Firefox and some ad blocker software. Not really sure, but every once in a while I get it to work. I haven't had to change the state in a while, and I honestly don't recall how to do it. Hopefully someone else following this can provide the info. -

WE WANT APPS ON MY FORD TOUCH!
ls973800 replied to CinnamonEdge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
My 2013 works pretty well. If I miss a turn, it almost immediately tells me to make a legal U-turn, or re-routes within seconds. You can also see a list of turns and how far before the next one. If I am on a route, I will usually have the NAV function on the small dash screen, and the map on the large center console screen. Pretty hard to miss a turn when using both in combination, or even when just using one, in my opinion. You can also use a smartphone map such as Google, Yahoo, etc and have the spoken directions from that source announced through your Ford sound system by using the BlueTooth connection. The map doesn't appear, but at least you have those spoken directions from a map source you tend to like other than the Ford map. I know of several owners on a different forum who use the smartphone map on their phone with the directions via BT, and have the car navigation map on the screen as a back up and reference source to coincide with the spoken directions. That way they are not always glancing at the smartphone to see up coming turns or where they are at. Google maps lost the ability several years ago(?) to send to the car from a computer. Mapquest still allows you to send the info once you have selected an address and directions. Instead of typing, why not speak the address? Much quicker and pretty accurate. Any time I have not been able to find a POI, I have used the SERVICES function, and asked for business search. Usually I have been able to obtain the address of what I am looking for, and have it sent to the car. If the SERVICES feature can not find the POI, I then use one of the included calls to speak to an advisory/operator who will find the POI and send the information to the car. I received 3 years of free SYNC SERVICES when I purchased the car, and obtained 20 free caller assists per year. Each year I had to notify them I was renewing the SERVICES (either by phone or online, I don't recall which) and I would get another year plus 20 additional free calls. I am coming up to my 3rd year of ownership and have 54 calls remaining. They accumulate if not used and if you renewal each year. After the third year, for the Ford SERVICES, there is a $60.00 charge. I have an Android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy 4) and have downloaded an app called SYNC DESTINATIONS. I am able to enter an address in that app and then send it to the car. There are also other features with that app which I haven't used or explored, but they include Find My Car, Manage Saved Points, View Traffic, Route Me To, and other features. Great way to find something and send directions to your car if you are not near a computer using Mapquest. I think you will get used to the in car navigation with a little use and practice. It's not too bad in my opinion. My biggest problem is that is does what I ask it to do, not what I want it to do occasionally. In other words, it's operator error and something I am saying, doing, or asking wrong. -
Right now 26% of Pirelli is being purchased by a Chinese business. Pirelli tires are made in Italy, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States along with China and Venezuela. The country of origin will depend on the model tire, size, supplier, etc. Easy enough to tell where it is made as that has to be stamped on each tire. Michelin, Goodyear, and other name brand tires are also made in China. Again, many different factors determine where your tires are made.

I didn't even realize A-6 was the latest. I thought A-5 was. I'll have to start checking on eBay. Last time I checked about a month or so ago, only A-5 cards were being listed.

Perforated Leather Trimmed Seats
ls973800 replied to oskar27's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I'm just curious. Are the seats perforated because they are cooled also, or are they just perforated? Only time I have ever had perforated was when the seats were cooled. This was on GM vehicles, never had cooled seats yet in a Ford. -
Lug nuts for 2014 Edge SEL with appearance package
ls973800 replied to oomis's topic in Wheels & Tires
Why not take one of your lug nuts off and take it to an auto parts store or even a home improvement type store (Lowes, etc)? Many stores sell replacement lugs and have a way to determine your size and length. You will also be able to see if you need the cone or ball seat. Seems a bit easier than ordering the wrong item and having to send it back. You could also take the lug off in the parking lot if you don't want to drive with only 4 lug nuts once you get to the store if the Edge is the only car you have. -

mysterious thump bump clunk sound when braking at low speeds
ls973800 replied to Mark D'Andrea's topic in 2013 Edge & MKX
My 2013 Edge will occasionally give a "clunk" sound when I lift my foot off the brake pedal after being stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, etc. It comes from the front, and sounds like the calipers releasing. I will have to pull the wheels and make sure they are free and sliding the way they are supposed to. Lately the Edge has only been driven about every 3 weeks or so. Miles are being put on the lease vehicle I got back in September. It doesn't do it all the time, usually only during the first 10 minutes or so. Even then, it may not do it for several trips. Mine is completely different than those who feel it slowing down or when turning. I am sure mine is within the brake system and has nothing to do with the transmission or drive line. -
I would first check the air filter to make sure there are no restrictions. Dirty, clogged, bird or mouse nest, etc. Years ago when I was selling Chevrolets, a customer took a test drive with one of our brand new half ton pick-ups. The truck was sitting on the lot for maybe 3 weeks. We could not accelerate over 50 MPH! Got back to the dealership and had a mechanic look at it. A bird had built a nest in the intake snorkel and it blocked air flow into the engine.

CAR and DRIVER review out on 2015 Edge
ls973800 replied to Jeff Maynard's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Like I mentioned, I thought the V-6 was going away for 2016 and being replaced with only the 4 cylinder engine. I haven't followed the entire discussion about the new model so I'm not really up on all of the changes. Oh well, I have been wrong before, nothing new. -
2011 Sport Edge Rims leaking, will not warranty
ls973800 replied to olftboy's topic in Wheels & Tires
Ford was "lucky" that the government loaned them $5.9 billion in June of 2009. Not considered a "bailout", but money that was needed to allow them to move forward. http://www.forbes.com/sites/joannmuller/2011/09/19/ford-looks-hypocritical-in-new-anti-bailout-commercial/ -
CAR and DRIVER review out on 2015 Edge
ls973800 replied to Jeff Maynard's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I thought the 3.5 V-6 was not going to be carried over to 2016? I haven't been keeping up with all of the posts about it though. -
Doing a search for "transmission fluid change" will give you some good results of how to do it. The filter is not replaceable unless you tear down the transmission. It is considered "lifetime" just as the fuel filter in the fuel tank is. No more changing those, either. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/15702-transmission-fluid-change-edge-2009-sel/?hl=%2Btransmission+%2Bfluid

I was going to say that even though the ball joint is a part of the control arm, many times just the ball joint can be replaced. You mention that yours will just press out. Many times the ball joint is riveted in place, and the three rivets have to be drilled out. Replacement bolts are then used in place of the rivets when a new ball joint is installed. I'm not sure if the ball joint still has to be pressed out once the rivets are drilled out, but I don't think so. Moog was always the name to trust when I was growing up and working on cars. I have read on various forums now that their quality and durability has gone down hill since a chapter 11 reorganization around 2011. Really can't say since I haven't had to do suspension work now for well over 15 years. Not sure about the replacement LCA unit you used to replace the worn factory ball joint originally, but replacements (especially the pressed in or riveted type) usually come with a grease fitting which factory units lacked. One good advantage when replacing them.

You are the one who said oil filters clog at 3000 miles and go into by-pass. You thought the Ford filter being "bigger" might last 4000 miles before going into by-pass. Perhaps you shouldn't be so literal with what you say is an everyday event regarding clogging and by-pass mode on all cars.
-
Very good site to use, i recommend that you are read some posts in it about how oil breaks down and when it first start to occur. ANY oil will start to break down within the first 100 miles of driving! It is a matter of how far you allow it to break down before it will clog the filter or damage the engine. Within 3000 or 4000 miles? No way Please link to some posts on BITOG where anyone says a filter will clog and go into by-pass mode at 3000 miles or even 4000 milesunder normal driving, even using non-synthetic blend or non-synthetic name brand oil. With regular non-synthetic oil, I would not go pass 3k miles due to how easily the regular oils break down and become diluted by fuel and heat as little as 2k miles depending on the brand. Again, if you are saying the oil is diluted by fuel and heat in as little as 2000 miles, I would like to see the links where you read this on BITOG. In fact, post over there what you said here about the filter clogging and going into by-pass, and about the oil dilution at 2000 miles. See what the real experts and people who have scientific evidence (oil analysis) and real world experience say to your claims. Fuel dilution is a concern in some modern direct injection engines. Your Edge does not use that technology so it should be no concern. As for the filter size of a Ford filter, my 2013 Edge 3.5 uses a small filter, in my opinion. Yet it is highly rated by independent tests and it can go the 10000 miles which may be what some Edge OLM (Oil Life Monitor) is allowing.

Electrical Issue? Door Ajar Light, Dim Dome Light At Times, etc
ls973800 replied to JeffRow's topic in 2013 Edge & MKX
Search the forum using the SEARCH function for your problem. You will find a lot of posts regarding the same problem as yours, and also find several posts on how to repair it yourself if you are so inclined. -
If an engine is producing enough sludge to cause the oil filter to clog and to go into by-pass mode at just 3000 miles, I'm surprised the engine is still running well. Oil to be contaminated or diluted enough by fuel or diluted because of heat at only 2000 miles is real indications of something wrong! I bet you never had an oil analysis done by Blackstone or any of the other testing labs. I would also suggest you do some researching over on Bob Is The Oil Guy for starters. Everything you have said is so far off base, it doesn't make sense. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/category/2/Lubrication_and_General_Automo He said he changes oil every 4000 miles, but the oil filter clogs every 3000 miles. That's even more ridiculous! Doesn't make sense that he would drive 1000 miles with a clogged oil filter that is in by-pass mode.

In reading other forum posts, this noise seems to be somewhat common in the Edge. Uh, first time I've heard the whining noise as being somewhat common. From reading the other forum posts, what was the outcome of why there was a whining noise? How many miles on your 2013? What size and brand tires did you put on, and what did it come with before you replaced the tires. I have a 2013 Limited with 20" factory Pirelli tires, and just over 41000 miles. No whining or hum what so ever. The tires are a bit load now, but not a whine or hum. I agree with Akirby, have the wheel bearings and hub assemblies checked out.

Perhaps you can tell by these blow-ups? The first picture is for the water inlet hose. The second is the thermostat housing. It appears the piece you are asking about may be a part of the thermostat housing itself and not a separate part. You may have to stop at a Ford parts dealer and look at the housing.

Debating purchasing 2014 Edge from out of state
ls973800 replied to gallen575's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
What is the exact vehicle you are looking for? What is making it so hard to find? If you are finding ones that have 20", you could always swap with an owner who wants them and would give up the 18" and some cash. Most states if not all will allow you to pay the tax only in the state you live in and are registering the car. Bigger concern is how are you getting it home? Transport companies are good, except you haven't done an inspection of the vehicle. Scratches, dings, dents, missing items, can all be said they were there or missing when the vehicle was picked up. If you do see it before shipping, take a lot of pictures and do an inspection of all items. If you are driving it, you may have to get a temporary tag from your state, as some states will not issue one if you are out of state.- 2 replies

Ford factory alarm, OR aftermarket ?
ls973800 replied to GNERGY's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
As was stated earlier, stick with the factory Ford alarm. You found out that the dealer installs the cheapest alarm they can, and then try to maximize profit by charging almost $800.00 for that alarm initially! Stay with Ford electronics in my opinion. Here is an excellent discussion regarding adding the different Ford alarms and remote start. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17035-adding-oem-remote-start-kits-parts-explained-detailed-2011/ -
It may depend on what engine you have. I have the 3.5 and there is no cover. I haven't heard from any Edge owners with the EcoBoost engine as to them having a cover or not.
