  1. an oil cooler, basically think of a radiator but instead of engine coolant it's cooling your engine oil. it's standard equipment if you have the tow package. allows for your vehicle to run under severe conditions without frying your oil every time thereby damaging your engine in the long run, or contributing to an overheating condition.
  2. yes that's a good one I can say with high authority that RED EDGE was not available! however I just noticed a variation is... oh and 12 weeks, ya that's about right I guess. hmm seeing how I ordered mine about 3-4 weeks ago, guess I'll be driving around with no plates for about 2 more months then
  3. they also got sued by the Japanese for having a Godzilla lookalike in their ad
  4. low beams only. you know what though, I am rethinking it right now since I'm not sure if I like the reflector pattern I've seen with the HIDs. also I'm pretty mediocre with electrical things. so maybe just go with some high intensity bulbs. I don't like the stock ones even though I gave them every chance. in my Ranger I have silverstars or nighthawk, I forget the name. they work pretty well, I might just go with something similar in the Edge
  5. tiny paint imperfection on my Redfire (roughly the size of the head of a pin) on my rear bumper where the top (flat) part meets the vertical face. decided to point it out to dealer, only to the point where they'll give me some touch up paint so I can try to make sure nothing underneath shows. there were also three scratches , one on front passenger door right side I never saw, dealer told me about it after I complained about the ones on the rear quarter panel and longer one on liftgate right below window, on that angled lip above the license plate. all but one on the rear quarter buffed out by hand (by the dealer). the other one they had to open a work order during the sale to have it buffed out professionally. all but the minor defect most likely occurred during transport I'm guessing.
  6. lighten up leadfoot you'll get at least 15... and it's not just acceleration from stoplights. don't drive over 70 MPH either, note how your owners manual says it takes 15% more gas to drive 65 MPH than 55. it only gets exponentially worse from there. V8 is nice (sometimes). gas prices for a couple of tenths faster are not. I took a little road trip this weekend, saw gas as high as $4.19 a gallon here in CA ... 87 regular! I always laugh at the people who always say they have to mash the pedal to "make up" for the V6 also. yeah 0-60 7.4 man how do people deal with all this sluggishness? crazy my Edge isn't even broken in yet and I'm averaging 15.4 MPG right now for only 17 MPH average speed. that's quite a bit of city driving combined with a whole lot of rush hour traffic on the highway. and a stop at one or two drive thru's. I suspect I'll get well over 20 MPG soon and probably even more as my avg speed improves.
  7. I agree - that will work!! :hyper: however the 200 miles thing is definitely wrong. should not happen... only <50
  8. I bought two at Pep Boys the other day. THe first one was one of those accordian-style unfolding jobs. It was silver and super thick/insulated. I bought the "jumbo" sized. almost fit - problem was, it reached almost the entire height of the window but was waaay too wide. so by having to fold the extra flap down to fit, it left about a 4" gap on each side! not acceptible there were two others that were the round/unfolding kind. one is a big disc with some extra fabric around it, but I didn't like the looks of it. The next was another round unfolding (twisting) one. turns out it's actually 2 separate discs. it's assymetrical so you can adjust it for a wider or taller windshield. I adjusted them the tall way. they overlap slightly towards the center but there is a small V at the bottom of the windshield near the automatic headlight sensor and maybe 1/2" gap on the sides near the pillars. if you're going to be parked in bright sunlight all the time might be a problem. otherwise, since it covers about 90% of the windshield and cost only around $12 that's pretty good. I might try some more if I find any. I suppose if I want to spend $40 + shipping (4x as much) I can cover 100% of the windshield at heatshieldstore.com
  9. lucky you I got my brochure, saw the $750 and was extra-happy. took it down to the dealer and ordered the vehicle, which arrived sooner than expected (4+ weeks instead of 7-8 weeks). but my $750 deal still expired 2 weeks before I picked it up. bummer
  10. wow that's tight. I'd love to see a pic sometime. AWD and fleet options I presume
  11. check this out, the guy who sold me the car told me the procedure to add your own code. he said enter the 5 digits then hold down the 1 | 2. then enter your own code I did it a few days later on the 1st try (from memory), no manual needed. it was actually easier than programming my girlfriend's Homelink in her Toyota which took 3 or 4 tries. btw I'm a programmer... lol but it's nice they give you the little wallet card in case you forget the code. and that it's easy to deprogram too
  12. is that new or the same oil leak you were describing before? oil cooler, I assume you mean the one that came with tow package? by the way how often and how much weight are you towing?? good luck, by the way I'm not really sure the whole history of your Edge but in America we have lemon laws. if you get a car with a bad build for some reason, you just take it back and get repaired or replace the vehicle if they can't fix it after so many tries. I'm told it can be a long process but worth the trouble.
  13. my experience so far, not really any thump moving the shifter around. yesterday I was actually on a slight downslope and had to make sure I was in "R" after moving the shifter to the correct position...since I had my foot off the brake and had already moved it on top of the gas with no movement of the vehicle or other sound making it obvious I did it right. that's one thing I wouldn't mind in the Edge - an indicator of the gear selector position on the information center. but not an end-of-world thing. rarely a problem for me, but nice to have nonetheless
  14. I don't think so, but I'm not as familiar with the MKX... I have the same thing on the Edge. it would be nice to have it, but since I usually have it set on recirculate I guess it doesn't matter anyway (with the exception of having to turn the fan to a slightly higher speed to get a better airflow toward the front seats).
  15. THREE people almost hit me the first day I drove my Edge to work (the 1st full day I drove it after taking home from the dealer) ... literally, I'm not exaggerating. the first guy cut across a parking lot and almost rammed me t-bone style, the 2nd one made a right turn, swung across 3 lanes and across the double yellow into my left turn lane, and the third randomly shot out of a driveway with no warning trying to make a left turn at a 45 degree angle through cross traffic when I already had a green light and started to go. another near t-bone (at a slightly lower-speed) and I was driving extra cautious / slower than I normally would. two other people came mysteriously close to my car for no apparent reason. still, I know in my heart there's no curse I also saw two other Redfire Edges that day... one was an SE when I got on the freeway and the other was a Limited on the street (I could see the lady looking over in her driver's side mirror lol). mine's an SEL, so we pretty much had the whole range covered! besides, Edgy girl's ride isn't red (cream, I think) and she's been hit twice...
  16. I definitely agree with that. by the way they're called accessories for a reason yes it's frustrating waiting or looking around for the right things where none (or no good ones) exist, but I love the Edge no matter what. I'll happily take a few frustrations and retro-fit or aftermarket the vehicle to suit my needs even more. the bumper cover would be nice, but I'm assuming they'll add that in no time. in the meantime, the dealer and aftermarket both has some good ones. they're already having the paint-colored body fairings all the way down and it's less than 2 years since the debut. the look will continue to evolve / update. mirror signals? kind of a gimmick actually but hey whatever. I don't find them a ton safer than normal turn signals I can definitely see it on the limited but not really standard on the SEL. I just wish they had the awesome blind spot mirrors for 2008 but at least 09 they will. and the Homelink / outside temp rearview would make a nice option rather than buy and install
  17. I am definitely ordering a set of these... luckily no dings yet, but I've been very careful. but I know one of these days I'm going to open my girlfriend's car door in the next carport just a wee bit too hard. if she doesn't first. I'm impressed with both the look and the color matching. awesome
  18. I would say they usually flatbed it unless one's not available and/or the other dealer is a pretty short distance. like less than 50 miles I bet Lincoln buyers are a little less forgiving than your average Ford buyer
  19. I just bought a battery operated temp-only (has inside & outside on/off switch on it) display gauge from Pep Boys. it's oblong and about 1/2" tall with a flat bottom edge and push button for light. works on 1 AAA... I'm going to install it tonight or tomorrow but will probably use my own black velcro dots. comes with some white squares that will probably show too much. since I already have the direction on the instrument panel, I don't really care about that. it should work fine but if it doesn't I'll just bring it back. I think it was $10. Homelink is nice but I'm not going to spend like $300 + installation for it. by the way anyone know where to buy a really good fitting sun shade except from Ford? Costco? I got an "oversized" accordian silver one at Pep boys, it's a couple of inches too short in height, but it's also about 6" too long on each side. but even worse since the last "fold" is 2" before the A-pillar there's an annoying gap on each side! kinda lame since the suction cups that stick on the window are on this extra flap that's too long. so they won't even connect to the window
  20. ugh the dreaded unplug. this always bugged me with my Ranger and wondered why it wouldn't shut off with the engine, like the stereo does. my girlfriend's Highlander outlet doesn't work like that. now I know why!! Toyota installed one of those doohickies and Ford doesn't. what are the name of the parts and do I get them at any auto parts / stereo supply store? I know what the bottom one is, an extra outlet. bottom line I honestly suck with electrical stuff.... thanks for the help btw any help with 'popping' the console off? where to pull from
  21. I only found about 4 different ones for Ford Trucks... none for the Edge. I just don't think they make them yet since it's too new. but pretty soon someone will figure out how many Edge owners there are out there and offer a chrome style
  22. hmm just mandated seat belts? welcome to the 20th century! I thought everywhere had that law... though people were just complaining about it here b/c they had a crackdown starting today on speeders, seat belts, and illegal lane changers on my route to work here. all this headrest talk is kind of funny. I understand the complaint, but it has never seriously bothered me or even stuck out much, not even during a test drive. I always ride with the seatback tilted a couple of notches but nothing much. like the other guy said, I like the safety element too. I'd rather be safe and have a properly aligned headrest than a serious neck injury and lean my head back all the time. it doesnt seem to shove my head forward at all
