  1. I notice different stations must have different bandwidth/compression. at least on the dockable XM I've had for 2+ years most of the talk stations and music vary greatly (to me) in sound quality. one of the 'upcoming events' sports channels is so bad it sounds like a robot is talking (maybe it is, who knows). I have not tried the factory Sirius, wasn't interested so skipped it. I knew they're combining anyway, and I have the radio I can use in my home or car anytime or discontinue (unlikely) that I'm happy with. like you folks said, it's "free" so why not. BTW, if you added all the same options onto the SEL except it would be more than buying the Limited, and Limited has more options beyond that, which I'm sure is already apparent.
  2. Volvo makes Mazda parts now?? or just Ford? wow there's something I didn't expect
  3. 5000km = just over 3100 mi (I always use .6 to convert, but really it's .62). so you're very diligent! as for the Ford factory oil comment, the Motorcraft stuff is actually pretty good and probably one of the best bang-for-the-buck motor oil I've ever tried. it's a semi-synthetic and barely costs more than the pure dinosaur stuff. I have used it (5W-30) for oil changes and topping off for the last 4-5 years on my 9 year old 115,000mi Ranger. seems to run a little bit smoother and quieter, especially cold, with the same or less burnoff than some big name-brand stuff. I can even rev the engine a wee bit more in stop and go driving than normal with no worry. obviously you're better with a full synthetic as I see most people saying they convert their Edge to during the first few oil changes. but the dino-blend works good especially on middle age vehicles that are not running full syn.
  4. lol I got it... figured u were in LA or Ventura (also near 101, 10, 60). I wondered, hey I've lived here for 30 years why have I never heard of these other two?
  5. flashed? under warranty by dealer or was this an aftermarket mod? to all the people saying their Edge rolls back in park, more than just a little bit, then yeah I'd definitely take it to get looked at or research further. sounds like all Edges are not reporting this exact problem, but some are rolling back (or forward, I suppose) a significant distance in "P". as mentioned already the Drive thing on a hill is quite normal. at any rate, people should always set their parking brake when the car is on any kind of slope. I can't believe how many people I've met don't even know where the parking brake is in their car. or what it's for! they're like "oh that? yeah I don't know what that is. I've never used it before". amazing
  6. great points, Grey. and yes I was mainly referring to my state, but thought that may apply to Texas and most others as well. I have, while on the highway, seen state-issued "truck" plates on out-of-state SUVs and chuckled a bit. especially those I knew were based on a car platform. I think the state of CA sees no need to register any more trucks than are already out there (they already outnumber cars, after all). having a choice in one's state is really the best of both worlds, because then you can usually choose the cheapest option as you mentioned. and I was actually wrong, taxis here do have commercial (aka truck) plates...never knew.
  7. man that is a great answer... you nailed it. are you an engineer by chance? :shades: I have driven a 5-speed manual my entire life, so to me it will probably be "who cares" and something I'd just barely notice. I know a lot of other people, it might come as a great shock but I've driven automatics which have a slight tendency to roll back on a hill also (I grew up and lived in a very hilly area most of my life). no biggie by the way, I believe based on your info and my own knowledge, this is what determines I'm at a red light or in stop-and-go traffic I don't have to pound the brake constantly or worry about not keeping enough pressure on it and having the car 'take off' on me while idling. because THAT is a real pet peeve of mine. I really hate cars that have that tendency at all... whcih I'm sure helps contribute to the gas mileage problem you're talking about.
  8. carefully bend it back... that's my solution. if you give it to the dealer, that's probably what they're going to do anyway (a guess). edit: or not, I like jimbobber927's advice. I had not previously heard they were different.
  9. sponges -- what sponges were these?? was this a "hand" car wash?
  10. what in the world are the 51 or 202?? :shades:
  11. yeah I hear ya, but in a way I think it's very cool every time I see an Edge on the road (not the SE... but that's another story). there are already 2 of them in my apartment building, one was recent and the other one was there like 6 months back. of course, I knew I was planning to get it way before anyone else around here did. I just had to wait til I was ready to make the purchase and dump my old Ranger. I went and drove and looked at them in Dec 2007 but didn't find anything I liked, so I had to wait to order a 2008. not that I was that excited about buying a first-year car anyway. I'm planning to make mine even more "mine" and cooler than theirs. besides the fact that I ordered mine so it's already one of a kind, since none of the configurations on any dealer lots were to my liking (mine's like the Limited, with a few deletions for things I didn't want to pay for... and no chrome (blech) on my 18"s). so nyah to them...
  12. sorry Edgy Girl... it'll be back like new in no time!! oh by the way, when the other person's insurance person tells you how much they're going to give for the damages, be sure you DEMAND at least an extra $1000 for "diminished value" (look it up online, you'll be happy you did). and rental car of course... lol I'd also insist on using the body shop of my choice, but that's just me
  13. anyone who says it's a truck for registration purposes doesn't know what they're talking about, and if it has truck plates someone at the DMV or dealer probably didn't know what they were doing either. I live in so. cal and saw a minivan taxicab the other day which had commercial (truck) plates on it... but I've never seen that before, and I always notice that kind of stuff that would stick out. so even that seemed like something was not quite right. btw, I even call my Ranger a car ("my car's over this way...") unless someone is asking me very specifically about it. so I'm not exactly going to start calling the Edge a truck, which it's not. here in California, truck-based SUV's dont' even count as trucks (they get car plates like everyone else). so I don't know why anyone would think a car-based SUV (CUV) is a truck at all....
  14. if you want 3 rows of seats, you have to go CX9, which is sort of like a stretch Edge. drive both and see which you like better. ditto what jm0624 said on the price
  15. hey cool hopefully they'll call me tomorrow... I ordered 2-3 weeks ago. I'm certain the fleet guy I dealt with entered it himself :shades: the only difference between what I've read here is he told me 6-8 weeks, I know that meant total time including delivery but seems like he gave me the estimate on the high end. now, I'm just hoping no "rare" parts hold up the process. I haven't heard short supply on the equipment I spec'd
  16. same performance as any other (non-AWD) Edge. the Sport package is appearance only.
  17. seems like it's actually pretty close to the blue available now... maybe not QUITE as "midnight" as the Dark Ink blue, but I guess similar
  18. I would like to know also!! this is my color
  19. I'm sure headrests may be a bit more comfortable to some people flipped around. I found no concerns while driving or sitting in vehicle - just be sure you are aware this is quite a bit less safer. these revised headrests were added a few months into the 2007 MY for a re-test to try to achieve the highest crash test rating (front and side). the Edge passed with these headrests, which were not achieved without. there's another thread about this, if you find that one front headrest is way more comfortable than the other. someone said they figured out the passenger one protrudes more than the driver one, and is apparently designed this way. odd
  20. good tips!! of course here (California) all gas has Ethanol I'm fairly sure. I'll do some research to double check. also, I hear every year, twice a year that the refineries are switching from winter to summer blend and vice versa... so I'm sure it's happening at least here. seems nobody would be talking about it otherwise.
  21. everyone I have talked to and heard from agrees the mileage drastically improves after owning and driving it for a few months. also, if you haven't even passed the break-in period and initial oil change, forget about it. your MPG may as well be 3 because it's basically meaningless vs. the gas mileage you should be getting during the practical life of the vehicle. finally - anyone who implies you'll get 20MPG or more in city driving is crazy. don't even expect it, though you should be able get 18 (and change) eventually with some really careful city driving and not too many red lights. I agree with what Solas said about winter gas and driving, also. and if you're at altitude or driving up and down any inclines which requires a lot more effort consider that too. though this is a different topic to me, I agree with the Garmin (have the c340, both have been recently discontinued, but works well). I have the 2008 edition maps and find a few omissions in POI but nothing too bad. Ford should improve the number of POI but anyone complaining beyond that is being a little picky. in-dash nav systems are almost always overpriced and if it's lacking a feature you'd like, you should have done your homework or tried it out beforehand. I didn't buy the Garmin before reading up on it... wanted to make sure I had a reliable, well-regarded, and easy to use unit, even if it was otherwise pretty basic. if it didn't have real-time traffic available (the c330 doesn't), I would have not chosen this.
  22. I might have mis-read this somewhere, but I thought it came with a power sunshade option? I guess this is not for the windshield but for the Vista roof or rear window?
  23. I think you're probably right about performance. but if you want to get a lot more responses, I bet you'd get a bunch of comments (and maybe someone who even knows the answer offhand or can easily find out) if you posted this over at blueovalforums.
