  1. man I would have thought the side (seat & curtain) airbags would have engaged. but it's possible you were hit at such an angle this didn't happen. or just with not enough side deceleration force. I do know the front airbags and side airbags are different systems. but I expected something...
  2. damn, gotta thank Ford's safety department! I am almost tempted to say "how did you like your crash?" as odd as that sounds. probably because I've been in two cars that were totalled and needless to say I didn't fare quite as well as you. luckily no collision as crazy as yours, but my 1st car ('89 Escort GT) did end it's existence in an impressive front end / t-boning when some guy pulled out into traffic from a sidestreet in a little Toyota with no warning. one thing I am thankful for all the time, that I don't visually see every day when I get in and drive are the impressive safety features. glad you're OK and let us know when you get your replacement Edge!!
  3. $200 over invoice price, minus incentives (I took $2000 cash back vs. the special 2.9% financing with no cash back). I also had a $500 college grad rebate, but that's a separate rebate program where Ford sends you a check in the mail. so it didn't come directly out of the deal. I ended up having around $4500 down - no trade since I still have my truck - and financing it at, I believe 5.9% for 60 months which I will pay off in 48 or less. I got mine in early April, if I had completed the deal in March I would have gotten an additional $750 cash back from a mailer I got that expired on 3/31. it only ended up being a $250 difference since the factory cash back local incentive increased by $500 in April but my car didn't arrive from the factory in time. no huge loss I'm still happy
  4. agreed the Michelins on the '08 are great. when I saw the '07 models roll out with Kumho's and Continentals I thought to myself "oh dear, they cheaped out on the tires"... I'm sure the Edge I originally test drove (an '07) had the Conti's. they felt "OK" but I am really happy with what what I'm rolling on. my last vehicle - '99 Ranger - came with Firestone (not the recalled ones on Explorer, but not far off) which lasted over 60k but I never thought were special otherwise. then I replaced them with some store brand tire and got something like 35k out of them... ouch. by the time it was itching for new tires again I went for some Michelin X-radials and was much more happy (performed better than stock and also puncture-resistant). this was only 10k miles ago so whoever ends up buying this vehicle off me should be happy with the rubber for some time. I doubt I'll end up buying any other tires besides Michelin again in my lifetime, so I'm glad Ford went with them on most if not all the '08s. :shades:
  5. 7.14 Km/L? Not sure if that is good bad or average... the number's kind of meaningless to me. I suppose the fact that there are 3.785 Liters per gallon (according to google) and I know there are 1.61 kilometers per mile this translates to about 62.1 mi / 3.7 gal = 16.78 MPG. which seems about right since my first tank I averaged about 15.4 and half of that was city driving. by my 2nd tank I was in 16's and 3rd tank around 18 MPG. so it seems like you're on track.
  6. ditto - with the exception I may or may not do it myself (definitely not on the first service). but everything else you said is same here.
  7. isn't that the passenger door? anyway yeah it's definitely off but since it's not severly so I'd say just turn it in at end of lease
  8. pinstripes? hmm I'm sure I don't remember that option. kidding!! looks great I'm sure she rides as nice as she looks (quite a bit like mine but diff wheels and I have roof rails instead of BAMR). also my girlfriend has a dark grey toyota as parked next to yours in the photos so that made me do a double take
  9. the Ford Flex is the most minivan-like vehicle that Ford will likely offer ever in the near future. and I think even that one is technically a CUV, so not even sure it will count. but if it does I guess every bit helps
  10. The only time I notice any glare in the Edge is while driving in a very bright sun and directly into said sunlight. not if I'm going away from or at an obtuse angle. there is almost no glare in my gf's '08 Highlander, which I drove this past weekend and was surprised. I think the windshield angle on the Edge is much more sloping, combined with a pretty flat dash (on top) which causes the reflection towards the driver. without redesigning the entire windshield and dash I don't think there's much else they could do. just don't use shiny Armor All... which I already did. without it I bet I wouldn't have half as much glare
  11. $47k for a Buick? whoa. I don't care if it's the top of the line and what Tiger drives. that's gotta be a tough sell vs. Lincoln, Lexus, etc
  12. despite this I don't really notice any detectable difference in panels, at least on my Redfire Edge. I've looked closely on a number of occassions to try to tell this sort of thing, and look for any uneven gaps, or other minor defects when it was built
  13. I did have one incident with my low miles 2008 SEL so far. I was pulling into a Target parking lot, turned into a space in an empty row at about 8 MPH. as I was 3/4 into the space, with the wheel nearly all the way to the left the vehicle completely died. Oil, Battery, and Engine warning lights all lit. thing still in D with my foot just barely having a second to begin depressing the brake (not the cause). wasn't even running the A/C or any other accessories aside from the radio. never touched the shifter or ignition so far this has only happened once. should it happen again I will be sending her in. but I'll be reporting it to dealer during the 1st service anyway. one other question, my right rear emits a momentary but obvious high pitched squeal if I am loading anything (even of very light weight) into the cargo area, I think only when parking brake is engaged but need to confirm it.. is this normal? no sound comes from the left side at all no matter how hard I push down or if I drop a heavy load closer to the left wheel. might have to mention to the dealer as well. also I got my 1st door chip yesterday my own fault as I nudged the door open just a hair wider to squeeze something out of the back seat and heard a thunk from a small (1/4") dia steel pipe along this block wall at 1/2 rear door height. but I'd rather have it be from me than some unknown marks all over the place from unknown persons. luckily it's tiny, but I still want to touch it up since I know it's there and people could conceivably notice it. pull right? yea maybe. the jury is still out. seems to drift that way just a bit on occassion but couldn't be sure if it was just the roadway for drainage or the vehicle out of line, so I'm still figuring it.
  14. nobody seems to make a really good one of these yet, but I'm not sure how great of an improvement there would be in the Edge as some other vehicles, as others have wondered too. I saw one setup for sale, I think on eBay but was not overly impressed. it was sort of a universal looking intake
  15. hi Sanche (noob) hit quote (at bottom right of the other person's post) then reply (bottom right again). type your reply below. don't edit or modify anything else... then hit Preview Post to see it then Add Reply to save it and make it seen.
  16. sorry to hear about it. I just got mine a while back and since break-in isn't done yet I haven't exceeded 16MPG. but hope to do so soon and average around 20-21 mostly highway driving. since I don't drive a high amount of miles it's not a big deal to me. still, filling up for $60 the first time was a little bit of a sticker shock. as for the price to sell for, might want to split the difference. I have noticed that KBB seems a little bit low in my past experience. is that private party price that you looked up? just checking. also look up cars.com etc. to see what dealers are selling them for in your area (likely about 1500 higher than what you'll end up listing it for). since it's in excellent shape and you seem intent on listing it at a fair price I think you'll end up getting very close to the asking. I recommend autotrader.com if they have that in your area. my girlfriend just listed her old car on there and I helped her sell it yesterday. she had much better results than other ways we tried in the past. this vehicle had one softball-sized dent on the driver's side front fender which she intentionally showed in the picture, and it still got offers relatively close to the asking price from people who hadn't even seen the car in person. and this is a 2000 Xterra base model with 125000 mi in average condition... nothing special.
  17. your HIDs and wheels look great, I'm sure you get lots of complements on the vehicle I ended up ordering some xenon H11 55w and hoping they will work much better than stock for low beams. we'll see how those do before I decide to go all the way up to HIDs which I am still leaning away from by the way stubby is cool is it dual purpose (FM & Satellite)?
  18. remind me to buy it within the 12/12,000 then! thanks for the warning you just saved me $100!!
  19. I said the EXACT thing to the finance guy when I was buying my Edge. said it's negotiable, and I'll just buy it later if I want. he looked at me like, damn you're pretty good... but still claimed it would be $400 higher later. I'm like, ya thanks but no thanks. told him nice try (LOL) only thing I couldn't see past was the GAP insurance (not that I'd ever considered it necessary before). they quoted me $800 and after negotiating down from their "fleet" price of $500+ I ended up paying like 300 bucks. full replacement through my insurance company I'm sure would have been costly if they even offer it (no I don't have $tate Farm). they try to sell you "for the life of the vehicle" yadda yadda but I think that's just spin. who's filing a claim with their GAP insurance on a 5 or 6 year old car? still I couldn't say no.
  20. what kind of checklist... I would say one thing you can do is go to the website and print out the full list of options. for example, the Edge you can go to that vehicle page and within one click show the list of standard features. then with another click you can "build" it and price with options. you can also do this kind of thing on Edmunds. in my case after I ordered a vehicle and it arrived, I walked around it several times, sat in it, started it up but didn't drive it. made sure everything worked. started it up (didnt really drive it, trusted if there were any problems I'd find it within the 1st 30 days). adjusted everything, seats, mirrors, etc. I made sure all the options I ordered were there as expected. checked the window sticker which had been placed in the glovebox already. eventually I found two minor, but relatively long surface scratches on the car. the fleet salesman, when I told him, noticed one more. two of them buffed out right on the spot but one did not. so I had them open a work order to take care of during my 1st service. in other words, make sure it's everything you were expecting but also look for any obvious defects before signing all the paperwork and leaving the lot. this was my 1st time EVER buying a new car and a special moment for me so I was ecstatic and understand where you're coming from (I think). hope this helps!
  21. I don't know exact timings or anything, but would you want to wait a minimum of 4 months (perhaps longer) for an '09 which will likely only have a few cosmetic differences? just asking. I mean you can have an '08 ordered by any dealer, built to your liking and in your hands within 6 weeks. trust me... by the way if you are loading it up with options don't get an SEL. it'll come out to the same price as a base Limited, I also say this from experience because I had the options you see below and it came out only like 1000 less. but that was fine with me since I didn't want to pay the extra thou + tax and interest (I financed most of the vehicle cost) for stuff I didn't need or desire. as others have mentioned, any respectable dealer will let you swap to a different wheel no problem.
  22. did they check other dealers for you? have you checked Ford Direct yourself (kind of a pain but once you get the hang of it, is easy) I wanted a Red SEL but was very specific about options I was looking for including charcoal leather and the Audiophile, with the 18" Painted Aluminum rims, two of the harder options to find on SEL. the first thing the salesman (fleet sales) did was check other dealers for anything remotely CLOSE to what I was looking for. he came up with one vehicle that was at least in the ballpark and printed it out for me, but it had a few things I did not want/need like tow package. and missing 1 or 2 others. so he just went ahead and ordered the vehicle and BAM 5 weeks later I was stylin' sounds like this guy didn't even want to check other dealers for you - the basic minimum. I bet being EOM (April 30th) all he cared about was selling one on the lot TODAY so he could hit his number. I dealt with 2 other dealerships somewhat like this (ok not that bad, just not helpful enough in my estimation). walk away and find a better one
  23. that's cool I'm still thinking about it. I'll decide soon enough. eventually I'll get tired of only being able to see 200 feet in the dark with the stock bulbs someone said they replaced their lo-beam H11s with H9 xenons instead. did I just misinterpret that? how would an H9 (65W?) work out in an H11 (55W) housing? or was that for the fog lamps (I don't really care to upgrade these yet, they work fine much better than the stock low beams)
