  1. very good reason for that! because it was #5, until jumping to #1 last year :shades: I think it will be up for some stiff competition in '08, but my prediction: it should come down to the Edge and new Highlander #1 and 2. just not sure which order yet. so far Edge has a slight um, edge :hyper:
  2. probably retrofit... but then knowing what OEM Sport taillights would cost is probably enough to stop me in my tracks :stop:
  3. damn that's awesome.... only $160 (shipped) and lifetime warranty w/ what seems to be pretty good support. sweet! now I know exactly what to order. if they would give a referral fee u should get it
  4. H - 130 (note, I didn't look) obviously your Escalade is modded and this guy's wasn't. and as your post reflects, he probably either spun the tires too much or didn't shift correctly, assuming he was using the autostick point being, 2 bone stock vehicles, on the gas from a dead start, Edge won... fun story (if not completely safe) and worth sharing on this forum, for me.
  5. that's pretty awesome... I thought the Q Tower looked like it would work before I saw the pics that you actually DID it. nice! The Thule brackets looked like they would run into problems who knows, I could be way off. even though I don't have a BAMR glad you pulled it off and gave tons of pics and specs for other people to follow! now if you don't mind staring up at a bar / bike / whatever all is great with the world! let's just hope there's no crusty mud to blow off should you actually decide to open it up with one strapped on there oh and the Trek, thumbs up. I ride an old ('98) Trek 7000 hardtail.
  6. I think it just depends what you're used to, but for me it makes no difference. my gf's new Highlander has the CC on the right, so I have to remember that when I always end up driving her car from time to time. I never previously had one there to be accustomed to. so you can bet I'll have to remember Toyodah puts 'em on the right. her old car had the wiper controls on the right and mine were always on the left (button on end of turn signal). plus it's a pull to squirt the windshield with wiper fluid whereas mine was always the button. I always ended up high-beaming in her old car instead of squirting the windshield the first few times, since I forgot what side it was on. eventually I never did.
  7. this is actually a good point. when I first read the title of this thread, I was like "huh?" and thought, what's the point of that. but now that I read this, it makes total sense. hopefully someone figures it out and posts it here. probably the one thing I'm not that good with is electrical... but if it's simple enough by way of step-by-step instructions adding a wiring harness I can do it. would probably be worth the trouble.
  8. color-coordinated cargo area cover is a factory option. you can probably just go to your Ford dealer and order one I would think. steering wheel radio controls, I think it only comes with the Audiophile but I'd have to double check. I can understand some of your other concerns, but there's not much than can be done about it. maybe I'm not as picky as I thought, but the interior doesn't bother me like it does you. I've been driving a Ford Ranger with 2 cupholders for 8 years, and these don't even fit a "large" cup because they hit the underside of the dashboard. in most cases "medium" (seeing how most fast food places made "large" into "medium" in the last year or two) just barely fit. tie downs, yeah could probably use more. I'd expect more in a Jeep or true SUV (not crossover) that's for sure, which the Edge isn't but it is trying to walk that fine line. maybe the foglights are a little TOO simplistic if that's possible, but that's my only concern there. it's not necessarily like you'd find on a lot of higher end / luxury cars. if I'm not sure about something like the headlights I just RTFM (I'm a systems analyst, can you tell?). also I never have a problem thinking of place for my cell phone, but maybe that's just me
  9. can you explain these add-ons? I'm not sure what most of them are... bumper saver, door protectors? by hitch do you mean the hitch itself, or a hitch cover?
  10. ya... I understand all that. it's great to hear. have never really heard much about insurance claims in Canada so never knew in detail. the deal with DIMINISHED VALUE, is it's something COMPLETELY separate than everything you just mentioned. what this mean is, the other person's insurance company has to compensate you a fair amount simply because your car has been in an accident (usually a few thousand dollars of damage or more). this is above and beyond any amount they're paying to fix your vehicle! why? because the assumption is, it will never drive 100% exactly "as new" ever again, and if you have to sell the vehicle to anyone, the fact it was partially wrecked diminishes the resale value, even a little. therefore diminished value compensation pays for that difference. down here in the States it is not the law, but it is becoming much, much more common every day. often the victim has to insist on it, or the insurance company won't offer it up. but it definitely exists of course if a car did have really serious damage and had to have extensive work done, a person could always sue for diminished value if they didn't get it. and insurance companies know this, that is why they pay it out when pressed. the amount being completely negotiable, of course.
  11. Windshield tint????? whoa as for the 6000k HIDs, can you point out the best source for these? I am debating between upgrading to some 4000k's, or something more like yours Edit: nevermind, I found the most recent HID thread. thanks
  12. congrats Dave! I've yet to see a roof RACK on an Edge, so I have to hand it to you for being the first one I've talked to. but I like the possibility of adding a rack if desired. my old vehicle, a Ranger had that full size bed which was really great, but I no longer need 99% of the time. but if I decide to transport my mtn bike around, that's one way to go. much better than dirtying up the cargo area and laying it down especially in inclement weather (have to check if there is clearance to stand it up w/ front wheel removed but then I'd need an internal bar w/ front wheel lock). snowboard racks are also a possibility I am considering for the same reason. but for now, no rack! btw, what brand rack did you get? let me know how it works out. in the meantime enjoy your light ice blue probably matches some glaciers up there in Canada... kinda like camo. lol
  13. OK, you prob have a good point there. there is that school of thought that the 20W flows better for normal driving, and really the 30W temp range exceeds any possible operating temps that normal driving will cause... therefore should only be used for towing or high temps (i.e. serious desert driving or racing) to avoid loss of viscosity. as for me, I'll generally just use whatever's in the manual unless I have a much better reason otherwise. BTW people can always mix 5W-20 and 5W-30 if they can't decide, or want to "average" the hi-temp properties of both. I've done that many a time
  14. makes sense... by a pig I thought you meant it eats gas, not slow
  15. great advice, I know bad brakes when I see them. my first suspicion would have been the calipers, for sure. definite sign of rubbing
  16. Edge (FWD) = 16/24 CX-9 (FWD) = 16/22 I don't know which figures you read but that's what gub'ment says... granted it's a negligible difference but makes me wonder how the CX-9 is better. the funny thing about the mileage ratings on the Edge is I have at least one recent magazine ad from Ford which states 16/25. all other documentation, brochures, etc has 16/24 which I believe is also on the window sticker. there are a few quirks on the CX-9, like on the Edge. why no BAMR w/o Bose? why no Bose w/o BAMR (or, pick one, entertainment system)? the world can only wonder.
  17. there are a lot of things you mention here, and a few left out, but basically it comes down to do you want a 3rd row, do you find the Edge's comfortable ride acceptable or do you want a firmer one, and do you want a 3rd row seat and willing to pay just a little bit extra for it. if people like the CX-9 interior better, than that's up to them. as for me, I like them both just fine, but the Ford one to me seems most homey. I could accept the 9 interior just the same, but it's not automatically matching my personal style. it's totally a personal preference. very few people need 20" wheels, I know I don't, I like a sporty wheel and tire and driveability, and 18" certainly meet that requirement. if someone really demands 20" and want matching body cladding like the CX-9 they can wait for the Edge Sport. bigger engine? great. worse MPG? yes (and we already know the MPG with the Edge is hard enough for a lot of people to accept, even though it's definitely respectable). not mentioned above: mirror lights, Edge has it. power driver's seat, Edge has it. power liftgate, Edge has it. I don't see the 'so much more' comment. there are a few available touches which people may or may not care about. I don't...but if someone prefers the sister CX-9 that's great and I'm not going to argue. I do think the blind spot sensor is a great addition. but I already have a brand new Edge so I'm not going to suddenly switch. some of the other are intangibles: quietness, keyless entry design, driving feel (comments like: solid and muscular vs. agility for it's size), controls. again personal preferences and whatever you have a sense for. you are right, there are definitely a lot of Edges out there, more and more all the time. but I see plenty of both
  18. some people are wanting to flip them around backwards because they're saying the headrests are unbearably comfortable and can't be adjusted. this is because they're 1) designed to achieve 5-star safety 2) looks 3) comfort I say if I can't get used to it, I'll adjust my seat until it's bearable. but I probably have less problems than most. I'm a little taller and my head just barely bumps it, maybe because I naturally lean forward just a tiny bit while I'm driving
  19. what Tiffany said... and yeah I'd accept a repaint by a German, authorized body shop. depending on the replacement time because you're way over there. that's just me, YMMV you definitely deserve much better Robert!! best of luck! I'll be watching to see what happens
  20. yeah exactly. I'm glad the guy ended up hounding the dealer until he got the 2nd key. I had a dealer do this to me on some floor mats when I bought my previous car. friggin' $50 floor mats!!!! never again... I learned my lesson pretty quick - don't go back to that dealer, and everything he said must be in writing before I'll sign anything at all. I was already pretty skeptical, but still took their word on this one. still a bit young & naiive I guess. btw, the dealer who I ordered my Edge from said they wanted a $500 check to order the vehicle for me (which they wouldn't cash). guess what, they cashed it the next day
  21. Garmin has the Agree screen too. they & Ford must have the same damn lawyers, I am a computer programmer and I honestly don't know any way around it
  22. the $400 is definitely a regional incentive discount in my area they are giving the $1500 (or $500 + special financing), not both
  23. this kind of thing annoys me, Ford should be rewarding loyal customers, not someone who just wandered in with an old import (or Chrysler, GM, etc) they want to get rid of. but the GOOD news is, it's transferable within household. so if anyone in your household has a non-Ford car and you can prove it, then bingo. you get the bonus cash
  24. I'm not anti-BAMR but I couldn't justify the expense and would have rather had the flexibility of the rails. anybody else go OUT OF their way (like me) to have these? I also prefer the appearance, it's a wee bit sportier and less minivan like. but I want to know if I'm the only one who thinks so. FWIW my Edge SEL looks almost exactly like the red one in the FordEdgeForum graphic, but with the rails and painted aluminum 18"s. so where are you guys?? roof rail lovers unite! :happy feet:
