  1. When I purchased my 2010 Edge Limited AWD new I couldn't barely afford the vehicle let alone the NAV system. I love my Edge and would be delighted if I could replace the original AM/FM Stereo 6CD changer/MP3 player with the Ford OEM NAV system. Is this possible without jumping through major software/technical hoops as described in this thread?
  2. I have a 2010 Edge SEL Limited w/Sub (no NAV). If I were to replace the stock OEM sub with the JL Audio Stealthbox and JL Audio XD300/1 sub amp, is the stock OEM sub amp wiring harness sufficient to wire-up the new JL sub amp? Can the JL sub amp be mounted in the same area as the stock OEM sub box/Stealthbox or must it be mounted elsewhere?
  3. I also hear this noise on my Limited. To me it sounds like the scratch you hear when a record LP has run out. I can only hear it when there is no audio playing and the engine is not running. I didn't know it was a cooling fan for the rear sub amp so thanks for that info.
  4. Perhaps you would have a better response if you had posted this is the "Audio" forum: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/forum/6-audio-navigation-sync-interior/ There is nothing "special" or "secret" about the factory speakers. As a previous post noted, just about any aftermarket speaker will be compatible. If it helps there is a post here by me http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/2138-my-speaker-upgrade-install/page__st__80 with photos of the speakers removed from a 2010 Edge Limited AWD Premium 9-speaker, 6 disk CD (non-NAV) system.
  5. You are absolutely correct. I installed my WeatherTechs in the dead of winter and noticed right off that that area is unprotected. It is also where i rest my foot. So, it is dirty and will get dirty year around. I use Scotch spray on carpet shampoo and vacuum. Other than that the WeatherTechs are excellent. I dislike the knurley truckers look of the Husky. You will never see them in my Edge.
  6. Have you given any thought to what is going to happen to the MDF as it slowly but surely absorbs moisture? http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/index.php
  7. AMSOIL Ea Nanofiber Air Filters --> If it's good enough for a $7 million M1 Abrams tank it's good enough ...for the Ford Edge --> http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=EAA221-EA http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx http://www.amsoil.com/video/company/EaFilters/index.aspx K&N wet gauze is so passe. :lastyear:
  8. I also have the Cargo Security Shade. What I dislike is the suspender-band must be placed around the rear seat head rests. If you want to drop a rear seat down you will have to remove the shade. When not in use it hangs from the rear seat head rests and is folded and half tucked behind the bottom rear seat "flashing" (cargo floor flap?). Like another person said, it is a cheesy poor and very cheap design. But if you just want to hide the rear cargo area from curious eyes it functions as described. I had a Mazda Tribute (Ford Escape brother) and it had a good roll-up cargo shade. This is definately one item Ford overlooked and should have redesigned much sooner in the Edge model years.
  9. Before you spend a hundred bucks on an inferior "air filter" system with the potential to damage your engine: Try one of these http://www.amsoil.com/video/company/EaFilters/index.aspx
  10. The unidentified black colored component is wired in series with the 7uF Cap. From its construction and shape and its purpose in the circuit I would guess, as you said, it is a wirewound resistor. Its measured DC resistance is zero. I have read that paper cones are the lightest, most responsive material to use in a speaker. DLS does have higher end paper cones. But I don't know what new materials are better suited, if any. It is interesting never-the-less. My concerns about paper cones in the door of a car is its susceptibility to moisture.
  11. The front door speaker contains the tweeter crossover filter. If you look at the second photo of the door speakers (with fuchsia colored label) you will see the main wiring harness feed from the head unit located on the bottom of the speaker basket. The tweeter crossover filter electronics to the left of the fushia label/magnet and the tweeter wiring harness connector to the right of the fushia label/magnet . There are two components wired to the positive side, and electrically in parallel, of the mid-range door speaker. The first component is the light blue colored electrolytic capacitor with the value of 7uF, 50V, made by M.D.L. http://www.mdl.com.tw/ The second black colored component in series is not identified with any markings. It looks to be a coil of some type. BTW, the cones of these speakers are made of paper. The speaker surrounds look to me to be made of a lightly rubberized foam. (For representation purposes only, click link: http://www.speakerworks.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/surround_pic.gif ) The plastic speaker grill seems to be glued to the speaker surround. If you attempt to remove the speaker grill you will most likely permanently damage the paper speaker cone or the surround.
  12. The photos below are of the A-pillar tweeters, front door mid-range and rear door 2-way coaxial speakers from a 2010 Edge Limited which comes standard with a nine speaker (incl. subwoofer) Premium Audio system. The tweeters were measured at 1-9/16"diameter. All the door speakers are the typical 6x8/5x7" size. The front door speakers appear to be single cone mid-range type. The front door speakers integrate the A-pillar tweeter crossover electronics (see photo). The rear door speakers are 2-way coaxial type. The door speaker magnets are small and thin at just over 1/2" thick [ LOL]. The door speaker baskets are made entirely of plastic - very light. The grills of the door speakers do not appear to be removable without damage. I believe that it is the integrated grills on these door speakers which make them sound obscured, almost muffled. IMO, there is no need for an integrated grill on the door speakers since there already is a grill molded into the door panels. The only purpose I can discern for the integrated speaker grill is to prevent damage during assembly at the factory. I have noticed that the "keyed" side of the wiring harness connector on the door speakers are the Positive (+) side. Speaker Wiring Color Code for my 2010 Edge Limited Premium Audio system (subwoofer not incl.): Left A-pillar Tweeter: GREEN w/Orange tracer = positive (+) GRAY w/Orange tracer = negative (-) Right A-pillar Tweeter: PURPLE w/Orange tracer = positive (+) YELLOW w/Orange tracer = negative (-) Left Front Door Midrange: WHITE = positive (+) WHITE w/Brown tracer = negative (-) Right Front Door Midrange: WHITE w/Purple tracer = positive (+) WHITE w/Orange tracer = negative (-) Left Rear Door Coaxial: TAN w/Yellow tracer = positive (+) WHITE w/Green tracer = negative (-) Right Rear Door Coaxial: TAN w/White tracer = positive (+) TAN w/Blue tracer = negative (-) Front door trim panel removal diagram http://www.edge-central.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=6#p8 Rear door trim panel removal diagram http://www.edge-central.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=7#p9
  13. I agree with most all of your audio advice. Including the tweeter positioning mentioned elsewhere. It is hard for me to turn the rears off. Yes, they are that good. Certainly, imaging improves with only the MS6A+tweets up front. You should know my home listening arraignment to understand my ears. SA-CDs played into five identical, properly spaced, full-range audiophile speakers plus a sub for 5.1 surround. http://www.sa-cd.net/faq#playback19 Considering a car is probably the worst acoustics to "listen" to music the DLS's are the shiznit  Too bad 5.1 surround SA-CD players for cars are rare.
  14. I have been here only since January and have indeed made the connection. I will be blunt and say I consider akirby to be a troll. His "blunt" behaviour is inexcusable no matter how much he may contribute in any forum It is not MacLeod who needs to "reflect" on his behaviour no matter how new he is to the forum. He and I are "Ford" customers not akirby's whipping post.
  15. I have had my DLS speakers installed now for only three days and I must say I am very impressed. This is my first set of DLS and my first set of audiophile class car speakers above Infinity Kappa level. IMO, the DLS rival some home speakers in sound quality and make Infinity's seem minor league. But indeed, the Infinity's are a good bang for the buck. But if you appreciate audiophile sound, are willing to spend a bit more and complete a professional like install then by all means go for the DLS seperates in the front and coaxials in rear doors as I have posted about earlier. Gorgeous - Beautiful. I am simply in awe. I am more than willing to entertain install questions. Especially concerning the front seperates.

  17. I beleive the answer is yes. Only the Limited comes with the A-pillar tweeters. From the Ford Edge ordering guide: 2010 LIMITED Standard Equipment Audio: Premium Sound System w/ 9 Speakers in 7 locations (Single CD when equipped with Navigation System) 2010 SEL Standard Equipment Audio: In dash CDx6/MP3 w/ 4 Speakers (Single CD when equipped with Navigation System) SEL & SPORT Optional Equipment Navigation Package [Order code 58Q] $2,380 Voice-activated Navigation System – In-dash screen & Single DVD/CD/MP3 Player, DVD-audio, DVD-video capability. Internal hard disk drive for map, POI storage, 10 GB Music Jukebox and Integrated SIRIUS® Travel Link Premium Audio System with 9 Speakers (in 5 locations) I'll be happy to sell you my OEM LIMITED door speakers and A-pillar tweeters.
  18. For the 2010 Edge LIMITED Premium audio speakers I was able to save the plastic tweeter mounts located in the A-pillar. The LIMITED's Premium audio factory tweeters snap out of the mount on the sides. You can carefull pry the tweeter out. DO NOT try prying the small 1/8 inch tabs holding the magnet on back of the tweeter. Instead, pry upwards on the sides below these 1/8" tabs. If your new tweeter size is close to the factory tweeter you can use super glue or if you're really lucky thay snap right it. Be aware that ordinary super glue will not work on these polyethylene/polypropylene plastics. You will need Loctite Super Glue "All Plastics" with primer. Available at Home Depot. 19. My 2010 Edge Limited does not have these Premium speakers. All four of my Premium door speakers are open-air types. There is no enclosure on the back of the speakers (see attached photos). Additionally, my rear door Premium speakers are 6x8" integrated 2-ways. Not seperate mid-range/tweeter as shown in your photos. My front door Premium speakers are also 6x8" single mid-range with seperate tweeters in the A-pillar.
  20. This one? http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/2594-does-anyone-else-have-burnt-taillight-lamps/ Wow! I'll have to check mine. In the above linked thread there is also a post with a link to a news item about a suspicious MKX fire.
  21. I was wondering the same. Here is what I found. 3127 draws 2.1 amps (26.8 Watts @ 12.8Vdc) and is rated for 2000 hours 4157 draws 2.3 amps (28.5 Watts @ 12.8Vdc) and is rated for 4000 hours. 200 milliamp and 2000 hours difference. If you replaced all four with 3127 you would save total about 0.8 amp (<2 watts) on the battery. What I do not know is what the additional 0.8 amp current does for the 4157 - more heat or more light (lumens)?
  22. My 2010 AWD Limited indeed came with the Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires (Treadwear 440, Traction A, Temperature A). I can atest to their traction rating as I live in the land of ice and snow :-) Seems that good traction is synonymous with a higher rate of treadwear. A softer compound wears quicker but provides better traction. A small price to pay for a safer ride.
  23. I also almost got suckered by this company. When I read the reviews after a few weeks of waiting with no product delivery I called my Visa credit card company and explained that DealerCostCarAudio had charged my card but did not have the product in stock. This is a violation of the VISA merchant rules. A company can not charge your credit card until the product is shipped. When DealerCostCarAudio found out I was no pushover and saw that VISA was involved they credited my CC immeadiately. This is the worse company I have ever dealt with by a looong shot.
  24. Grass is greener. People like tweeks regardles if they work better or if they need it. I'm guilty as charged! :yup:
