Hesitant To Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I have received my USB and Nav Card update but have been hesitant to upgrade. I purchased my 2012 Edge Limited AWD in January 2012 and the V2.11 Sync and Nav have performed flawlessly. Voice commands are understood, touch screen response is good, phone pairs perfectly, music including USB has been perfect and Nav has. been spot on. I feel foe those of you who have had difficultly with the system and can understand why you were anxious to upgrade. But I tend to be one who thinks if it ain't broke don't fix it. Anyone else in the same camp as me?

Same here exactly! Haven't rec'd the new upgrade package in the mail yet, but I'm in no hurry anyway for all the same reasons.

Scorpio - I saw the description of your Edge at the bottom of your post. You have the exact same car and options that I do, even the color. I bought mine on Jan 8, 2012. I had read about all the Sync issues on this forum and was expecting some problems. Fortunately I have been pleasantly surprised. I love the adaptive cruise control. Drove 120 miles on the freeway today without touching the brakes or accelerator. I'm also pleased with the mileage, getting around 20 in the city and 25 on the highway.

Picked mine up last October, glad to hear your've been enjoying yours trouble-free aslo - maybe it's a Mineral Grey thing LOL.

P.S. yes the adaptive cruise was a pleasant surprise, thought it was just a gimmick before actually using it but it works very nicely even in heavy traffic.

I've been feeling the same thing. I have not yet received the upgrade package in the mail (although I have downloaded the update from syncmyride.com onto a USB stick) but I'm not in much of a rush.

To be honest, I like the way the system functions... the fact that information is supplied in each of the corners of the interface and the fact that the outside temp is displayed front and centre.

I've only had one or two glitches in the ten months and 3,000 miles of ownership... I am glad, however, that folks that have been having issues have generally been satisfied with the update. If I make it past this summer with my Edge it'll be a record for me. Hopefully 2012 will be the year I own the same vehicle for all twelve calendar years....

I took delivery of my vehicle in late November and was also very happy with it as it was. Thus I was worried about fixing something that wasn't broke. But, I went ahead and made the change. I can tell you that I'm very glad that I did. While I was happy with the system before, I think it's even easier to use now. Go ahead and make the change. You won't regret it.

They just reprogrammed the program to distrubute the processing more evenly across the hardware. I believe the Navigation is now handled by a seperate part of the computer. This freed up processing power for the rest of the functions. SYNC now responds faster to voice commands right after you start up and more. I like the GUI and the climate controls better but I do miss the temp being displayed by the clock. I had no problems with the previous version, but I'm so glad I upgraded.

They offloaded the graphics processing to another chip - there is no other "part of the computer" to handle navigation. They just optimized the use of the hardware that was already there.

Right, the navigation graphics are handled elsewhere now. Been awhile since I read up on what they actually did.

  • 4 weeks later...

I started this post back in early April when I first received my upgrade package from Ford. I decided today to take the plunge and do the upgrade, even though V2.11 has performed well for me. It was a very simple process and took about 40 minutes. I did it while driving on a long trip rather than idling in my garage. I like the updated software and it seems to work as well as what I experienced from V2.11. It seems a little faster and the screens cleaner. Overall I am happy that I did the upgrade, even though I wasn't experiencing any probelms before.

Ahh you caved! But in all seriousness, glad you are happy with the upgrade.

I haven't upgraded yet, mostly because I don't think the interface needed to be simplified. I kind of wish they provided an option for 'Beginner' or 'Advanced' so we could choose the depth of info displayed.

I like the look of the new nav and I don't use the phone system much but I do have a couple of hangups about the radio and climate functions. Can someone answer me the following...

On the home screen, currently the two seat heater buttons show, while the temps and 'Auto' (or fan speed icon?) are in the bottom bar. With the upgrade, it looks like the heater buttons are stll there and the temps have been moved above them with only the word 'Climate' in the bottom bar. So, does the 'Auto' no longer show anywhere on the home screen?

Currently the 6 radio presets show on the home screen while the current song (and channel?) displays in the bottom bar. WIth the new system, the station/channel only appears above the presets? Or does the song still appear there?

Limited59 - you are correct about the new home screen. Just shows the heater buttons and the temps. Of course when you press the climate tab, all the information is there including "Auto." The same on the home screen for the music, only the station/channel appears above the presets. When USB is played (Ipod in my case) the song title and album does show on the home screen. All the detailed information is on the individucal tabs or on the drivers dash board screens. I did find that the upgrade did a better job of indexing the music on my ipod (USB) than V2.11.
