toast1850
I have a 2013 Edge SE with the plastic steering wheel with 101A package. I'm looking into replacing it with the leather OEM wheel. I found one on eBay that has 6,000 miles on it. Anyone know if this could be a job I attempt myself or would I need to bring it into the dealer to install the leather wheel? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
omar302
It is a simple job. 30 minutes max, 20 of which just waiting for the power to discharge First you need to disconnect the battery. Wait 10-20 minutes to ensure that the Airbag system is fully discharged. There are 2 small holes, one on each side of the steering wheel, you will need a long rod, like a Alen key and insert it in one hole so you would push a spring inside that would release one side of the Airbag. Then do the other side & the Airbag would come out. Note: Once you have the other steering wheel, you can see how you would push the rod/Alen key inside the holes. Once the airbag is loose, you need to disconnect the 2 wires from it and remove it completely. Take extra caution handling it. Disconnect the wire inside from the clock spring. There is a single bolt holding the steering wheel, I used a T50 torx wrench. Unscrew it & the steering wheel is free to remove. Reverse to install. Again, take extra caution handling the airbag & ensure that your battery is disconnected. This also helps avoiding Airbag Warning lights. Removing the Airbag is similar to below video of the F-150, except the Edge has 2 holes only, not 3. This is the Torx wrench I mean, used T50: http://www.powertoolsdirect.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/f/a/faithfull-star-torx-key-set-of-12-t7-t50.jpg
Waldo
The trick is finding one with the same switches as what you have. If the one you have includes different switches for the radio or cruise, it has to be configured through the software.
toast1850
Since I have the 101A package that includes sync and Sirius wouldn't it work? The wheel I looked at on eBay appears to be the same as mine. It has the same button setup.
wisdomsp
If it's the same button setup then I think you are safe.
