2014 Edge AWD ----ABS making loud noise

Recommended Posts

When driving on slick snow at about 15 to 30 mph and trying to panic stop the ABS pulses the brake pedal really hard and a banging noise comes out of the brakes mostly the LF brake. Is this normal. I have a 2000 F-150 and in the same situation I hear a clicking sound from the ABS and some pulsing in the brake pedal. The Edge is several times more pronounced than the truck is this normal?

Did it perform OK in the stopping department otherwise? Most likely the combination of ABS and traction control (though it could be an incorrectly seated pad/rotor combo), as the Edge shifts power to the wheel with the most traction. A member with an MKX recently also had a similar experience, the service shop found no cause for alarm. I would stay alert for repeat incidents, especially when the road is fine & there is no reason for ABS to engage.

I don't believe the Edge has any issues, given the info you have provided. Now, it is very likely your F150 does not have the sophisticated ABS/traction control setup of the Edge. Does it have 4WD/traction control?

Tire tread depth is also important for good traction in wintertime:

Hi, it was probably my post on the loud noise from the ABS in the snow. Kind of sounds like galloping horses. This sound, according to the shop foreman, whom I have a great rapport with, said the sound is more pronounces because the ABS pump is right near the firewall on the drivers side. My wife's '09 MKS DOES NOT make a noise like this, her pump is in the front. The tech took me out in another '12 MKX in the snow, and it makes the same sound. Not sure that this made the same noise previous winters, this still has me a little uncomfortable. Would appreciate anyone else's similar issues.
