Alarm Sensitivity

Recommended Posts

2019 Edge SE.  Stock alarm system.  The alarm is very sensitive - having a basketball hit the car sets it off.  Not from dropping the ball from 10'; rather, in the drive and the kids lose control of it and it bumps into the car.  Also, if someone gets too close to it, it will sound.

Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity, or am I off to the dealer to have them look at it?

Thanks!

There is no stock alarm with a shock sensor on the Edge, as far as I know. It is probably an add on. If it is, you'll need to find out how to reduce the sensitivity. The Ford Accessories add on would have a knob to change the sensitivity. The instructions for a 2015-2018 Edge would have the module strapped behind the steering column and could be accessed from the fuse panel door (near where the driver's left knee would be).

Reading the owner's manual for your year there's no mention of a shock alarm, only unauthorized entry.  That's the same as other edges with the OEM system.  If you're certain nobody has ever installed an aftermarket shock sensor I'd suspect a faulty hood or other door switch.  Just for grins n' giggles lock your Edge then try slapping the front of the hood.  If that doesn't do anything try each door.  That'll help when you take the car to the dealership to have it repaired.

Ford does have an add on security module that has a shock sensor in it.  No vehicle comes from the factory with it.  It has been added at some point.  It also is part of adding remote start if not equipped from the factory.

You will have to find where the module is mounted and there is knob that turns and adjusts sensitivity.
