DunePearlEdge Posted April 6, 2015 Report Share Posted April 6, 2015 It was suggested in another thread that the stock intake silencer can be removed to gain that nice intake sound. In the link below, the top box has two large openings or connections with the intake tube, what did you use to plug these two openings? Similarly, on the smaller attached picture, there is a small tube that protrudes from the stock intake. FordMan1977 Posted April 6, 2015 Report Share Posted April 6, 2015 This topic came up awhile back and unfortuenatly I cannot find the old thread on your exact question. Anyway apparently the home improvement stores or hardware has pcv plumbing caps/plugs that can cap off those muffler holes you speak of. The old thread actually had the sizes and part#s but ill be damned if I can find it. Just be sure however you decide to plug the holes that it cannot fall into the intake tube! One question, I've never seen these clamps that hold on the silencer. How are they removed? I added a picture of the clamp. I am a little afraid to drive to Lowe's or Home Depot with the silencer holes open as the engine will be sucking in unfiltered air that hasn't passed the MAF sensor. The stock clamps only need the little tooth bent back, that's holding the stock clamp on, and then it'll just fall a part. Do not over tighten the new rubber caps, just tighten till you feel some resistance. This is under $8 in parts, and less than 10 minutes time. I know it has no use once the ports are blocked but doesn't it look odd under the hood with it missing? 13EdgeSport Posted April 19, 2016 Report Share Posted April 19, 2016 I haven't noticed too much difference in sound. I recently changed my oil and did the mod. I can tell acceleration is smoother, and easier to get up to speed. I have my Afe filter coming in tomorrow, and I also ordered some black hose clamps. I'll keep you guys updated. Probably really easy, but would cost more and take up more time. Wait till I get my black worm clamps and it'll look "almost" factory.
