"Samantha" is rushing our relationship at points
akirby replied to stingrayman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I don't think it's a feature many people use. I think I've only used it once. But I'll try to play with it and see. What are the exact commands you're using? -
It's usually stickers or something on the exhaust but that should have burned off by now. Look to see if something is leaking onto the exhaust somewhere.

2011 Edge SEL No Navi but getting Navi Error
akirby replied to ssscott's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
A5 is the latest card. I think the current MFT software can use any versions but older software only worked with either A3 or A4. The dealer should be able to loan you a card to test it. Make sure you're upgraded to the latest MFT VERSION. -
2011 Edge SEL No Navi but getting Navi Error

Check it in ETIS above but it does sound like you have navigation and just need the SD card. You might be able to get a SD card from the dealer or Ford Service rep here on the forum. Worst case you can buy an A5 card for $125. -
It's in the owner's manual or one of the supplements. You can get them online at http://motorcraftservice.com

I agree that it takes longer to read the entries. -
Some buttons are better for frequently used items that aren't easily accessed from the steering wheel. Ford is changing this now. If you have auto climate control but insist on controlling it manually then you won't like MFT. It's not designed to work that way. It's only designed for occasional use of detailed climate control functions. If you try to browse music or phone numbers manually instead of using voice commands - you won't like it. If you use it the way Ford intended it to be used - it works great.

It really comes down to how much risk you want to take and what you're willing to spend now to do that. It's always a gamble and the odds are not in your favor long term. If you can avoid to pay out of pocket for a repair then I recommend not buying the warranty. You might lose on one or two vehicles but in the long run it will be cheaper. If you can only afford the cost of the extended warranty and not a more expensive repair then maybe that's your best bet. Or financing the ext. warranty.

Mine works fine. I prefer to set things and forget about them. Auto temp. Auto wipers. Auto high beams. Keyless entry. Love it. You just have to be willing to do things the way the vehicle wants you to do them. I do appreciate simple things so I understand that, too.

There is such a tool - it's called a lockpick or something to that effect. But not many people are using it and I don't know how well it works. Ford looked at a way to make sure it's the passenger using it and not the driver but couldn't come up with a good solution. Just knowing there is a passenger isn't good enough since the driver could still be doing everything. And this is all about protecting Ford from stupid lawsuits so if you want to blame somebody, blame the idiots that sue companies for their own negligence. Looking at the screen and selecting a number is far safer than trying to type in an address - that's the real danger. You can always try "Help" - that should pause and give you the available voice command options for that screen. Maybe the delay time is tied into the voice prompt settings (advanced, brief, etc.) -
The improvement for touch screens is not from a usability perspective. The improvement is that you no longer need to build dedicated push buttons. You can change the options, screen layout, number of buttons, etc. with a simple software change. That gives the engineers ultimate flexibility to add new features or make improvements. The funny thing is touch screens have been around for over a decade. My 2003 Aviator had a touch screen navigation and radio interface. Nobody was complaining about them back then.

Being #1 doesn't help if you lose money on every vehicle. It just means you go out of business faster.

They used to (up to 4 per year). Not sure if that's changed recently. Like I said there was some abuse and actions were taken. X plan used to be below true dealer invoice but now it's about $250 above dealer invoice so it is possible for the dealer to beat it. HOWEVER If you walk in with a X plan pin and the dealer says he can do better without it, you have to ask yourself this question. Since every x plan sale nets the dealer an additional few hundred dollars from Ford (spiff check) which is pure additional profit, why would the dealer turn that down and try to get you to buy one for less money and without the spiff check unless they are making it up somewhere else with a higher doc fee (X plan is $100 max) or other add-on fees or items that are not allowed with X plan. Or they're lowballing your trade-in. The other explanation is their plan privileges were taken away from them by Ford so they can't take your PIN. There are legitimate cheaper deals out there (although I don't know why a dealer would sell a new vehicle at their actual cost with no profit) but you need to be careful and understand the true final price.

I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed with at least an extended warranty or service program.
-
That's only the Ford Partner X plan rules. There is a separate plan for Ford employees to give out pins for Friends and Family. They used to have 4 pins per year they can give out to anyone they "know". I think they clamped down on what "know" means and they may have cut the number of pins but as far as I know it's still in place and that's what you see people requesting on blueovalforums.com and other websites. There is no confirmation required for that program.
-
Not true. X plan is also for Ford partner companies through fordpartner.com. Same pins, same rules as friends and neighbors but you have to work for the company and show proof of employment. Employees can hand them out to friends and neighbors but you're supposed to know the person not just give them out randomly. I have heard employees getting interrogated about it. For Ford Partner X plan pins the dealer MUST verify employment. I had to take my badge or paystub. If yours was a partner pin and the dealer didn't do that then they're not following the rules and an audit could take away all their plan privileges.

DVD sound besides FM transmitter?
akirby replied to bd1980's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Did you follow these instructions? Can I listen to the sound of my DVD through the car stereo speakers? Yes. Power up your system and place a disc in monitor "A" (headrest system) or in the only loader (Overhead/Center Console System). While pointing your remote at the monitor press the "DVD A" button directly under the red "POWER" button on your remote control. Next press the "Sound Around ON/OFF" button to turn on or off FM modulation as desired. Three buttons to right is the "Sound Around SELECT" button which will scroll through 6 possible stations for broadcasting speaker sound. Once selecting a station you must then tune your stereo to the corresponding frequency. That's your best bet. Otherwise get a headphone jack to RCA cable adapter and use the headphone jack to the rca ports and select Line In on sync. -

Parental controls issue, Sirius Radio
akirby replied to stingrayman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I think that refers to whether the v-chip flag is enabled by Sirius, not that you can choose it yourself. See if our local Ford rep can get the answer for you. -
If you want to save money then buy a 2 or 3 yr old model. Outside of the camera there probably won't be any noticeable changes and it will be a lot cheaper. You can also buy a used phone.

Think faster? Have you tried "wait" or "pause"? -
Bingo.

If the fan speed is too fast or too slow you change the temperature. I do it all the time. I think too many people resort to manual mode when all they really need to do is change the temperature. e.g. In the summer when you get in and it's 95 degrees and the climate control is set to 73 the A/C comes on full blast. If you raise the temp to 80 or 84 the fan slows way down (but is still blowing cold air). Then you lower the temp as it cools down. That's a lot easier than manually changing the fan speed, etc. I can see rare cases where you want hot air from the vents or cold air in the floor, etc. but I think those are rare. I do think regular buttons are much better than the capacitive touch buttons and I'm glad Ford changed that going forward.
-
In that case it must not be working. Check the fuses.
-
In full auto mode you should be getting heat from the floor vents anyway by default. You can use the right hand display to adjust the climate control temperature. Sounds like you're trying to use the climate control in manual mode instead of auto mode and just changing the temperature like you do on your home hvac system. I never have to use the touch screen while driving. I can do everything from the steering wheel controls except changing the entertainment source and that can be done with voice commands or one button press from the entertainment screen.
