  1. man...don't think I would want to be further north than that...and I see you screen name fits your location quite well.
  2. Have you set your "MyTemp"? Maybe it is curently set at 60 and you accidently bumped it?? Not sure about the Edge but know some other cars I had if you hit Max AC it would go to the lowest temp setting.
  3. Just got some good news from Wayne Cunningham over at CNET. He was the author of the one hands on review that specifically mentioned a different CPU, I contacted him after reading the article and just got this response. Ford did not update the hardware. According to my sources there, the software update is all that was needed to improve the performance. During my demo at the Los Angeles auto show, it seemed to work well. As for the CPU, I will have to check my notes, but from what I recall, it is the iMX31, as you mentioned, so 'iMX51' would be a typo. Thanks, Wayne Was surprised to get a response so kudos to CNET and Wayne.
  4. Not sure if you can reinstall the same software. I believe someone posted here that when you try to reinstall the same firmware you will get a message saying that the install is bad or something. When they checked with syncmyride they were told the new rewrite would give a more descriptive error message. I too am having more problems with 2.11 than we ever had with 2.8 and when I relayed this info to syncmyride I was told I could bring it to the dealer. The dealer claims to have installed 2.11but no setting were wiped out and the system doesn't perform any better. So either they didn't do anything or a reinstall isn't likely to help. I would try to sit tight until the rewrite shows up at your door...hopefully it will be better.
  5. Maybe it is just me but I find running boards on a vehicle this size to be more problems. Seems like teh running boards don't stick out enough for most people to realize they are there and when they step past them they often don't completely clear them so all the road grime ends up on you clothes. Maybe it is just the ones I saw but if you go that route definitely try to find someone local with them to check them out.
  6. I really don't understand what the difference is an why some people seem to have better luck. But we had limited issues with 2.8 and when I heard 2.1 got released I was excited so I did it and now we have nearly daily issues. I can understand a new revision possibly having new unexpected bugs but what I don't get is how some people like us have more issues than ever before yet others have relatively few problems. I wish I understood more of what was happening, whether it is a hardware issue, a corupted file during install...just baffles me. But more importantly I hope Ford/Microsoft/bSquare etc knows what the issue is so that when we install the new rewrite it will perform as expected.
  7. http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/Susptabl.jsp?autoMake=Ford&autoModel=Edge+Limited&autoYear=2011&autoModClar=AWD Eibach 1.7" in front and 1.3 in th rear H&R 1.75" front 1.5" rear Unless you have a bunch of tools and have done this sort of thing before I would recommend going to a shop. Most shops will charge about 300-400 to install plus you'll need to get an alignment check.
  8. This seems to largely depend on the model. From what I have read both tend to fit well but sometimes one will offer more protection than the other. Usually it is the front liners and how far up they go. I had a set of Weathertechs on my old ride and loved them. Worked great in the snow and for the mountain biking mud. Originally I picked up the WT because I didn't care for the diamond plate pattern on the Husky's but that is personal preference.
  9. Enjoy...it is a nice ride. You should post up some pics of the new ride. We wanted to get a limited too but they didn't have the other combination of adders the wife wanted so we got an SEL.
  10. Per my post above...the only way we will have factual information is when Ford makes a real press release as to what was done. The problem is they haven't done this. Because of this we are left to find information (reliable or not) on the web and try to piece together what they may have done.
  11. I think you are wrong. When the car is tuned they develop a safe range for the timing advance based on the stock fuel. Whatever this range is it is fixed in the map and the ECU will adjust in that range that it is allowed. So when you put premium fuel in you are stuck with the same max advance on the timing you had with regular not to mention your boost levels will be the same. So the only time the use of premium will net you more power is if the temps are high enough that the ECU would have started to pull timing if you were running regular. If Ford could claim higher power ratings they would.
  12. First of all if someone isn't interested in what is being posted they don't have to comment. The fact that many people are posting and veiwing this thread seem to indicate people are interested in what Ford is releasing. Second I haven't seen anyone complaining about what Ford has done with the new release short of not telling customers about it. All of this could be put to bed if Ford would actually make a press release that addressed what they did to fix the software. Now all we have to go on is what we can find online from people that saw the system either at Ford or at the LA Auto Show. Unfortunately while the sources do agree that the system visually is less cluttered and seems to react much better some other details don't align. Again I don't see why you seem to have such an issue with people posting up articles they find and mentioning details that don't add up or discussing these articles.
  13. I don't think it will offer any extra power, for that they would need multiple maps so that they can change boost levels. If they had this capability they would surely advertise it and list this in the vehicles capabilities. In this country horsepower ratings sell cars so if they could bump it even 10-15 they would.
  14. Well despite what Akirby would like to say I don't think there are many people that have fully functional MFT's. Sure a couple can post here but if you think about it makes no sense for Ford to go through the expense of several revisions and a complete rewrite for just a few people. Also, nearly every car review you read with an MFT will mention some sort of malfunction. So this IS a widespread issue. While I don't disagree that the MFT versions of nav should be rated that low I do think that list raises a few questions. Several of the models listed I thought used the same interface and data but were spread through the list. Makes me think that maybe other things are affecting the ratings. For instance Audi's with MMI range from 696 to 754 but I think the systems are identical now (except maybe the A8 which I think has Google Earth).
  15. Without tuning increasing the octane will do nothing for power unless you are running really hot like towing. When it gets hot the charge temps rise and the intercooler ins't as effective so you run the risk of pinging so the higher octane will allow you to maintain power a little longer and hopefully avoid heat soak. I hope you can but I think the EPA may have changed the way they rate cars. We have always been able to get the EPA rating for the highway for our commute which includes about 1/3 rural country road, 1/3 highway with lights and 1/3 highway. Average speeds for a tank are always around 35 but we can do no better than the combined EPA rating. While my modified Subaru Legacy GT on the same commute was able to get EPA rating for highway and the Audi A4 I am driving now (W/ 190k) is exceeding the EPA rating on the same roads. So at least from my observations they may have changed their estimates to math my driving style so I can no longer exceed what they list. Well at least that is the case with the Ford but a buddy with a new Subaru is seeing the same thing so I think it might be accross the board.
  16. Wow...did a lot of stuff right off the bat. I guess you don't suffer from analysis paralysis like I do. Congrats on the ride and let us know how you do on gas with that commute.
  17. I only have powered hubs right now, but I'll check with my co-worker he might have something. He might even be able to add something on the USB RAID setup....as I was searching this out I found a tech article on his site. But if I can't find it easily it will likely be big $ and I would be better off just replacing hard drives when/if they go bad.
  18. Is it just Jersey girls? Wish I knew that! Ha ha.
  19. Really...I thought I read somewhere here that there are two USB connectors on the APIM but only one is connected and the other connection was USB2?? I did a search for a RAID USB device but it only seems to be possible with software nothing hardware based. So I guess I'll stick with my external drive and when it craps out maybe the prices of 64GB flash drives will be reasonable or I'll get an SSD.
  20. Congrats! Sounds like a nice ride. But be careful about getting her something special. If she is like my wife special isn't just expensive it is completely impractical too.
  21. I currently have a 320GB USB drive with about 60GB of music in the Edge that seems to be working fine, except for the occasional "usb device not recognized" message from MFT. But I am concerned about the long term durability of a standard drive with the temp extremes. I was thinking about doing a flash drive but 64GB drives are rediculously priced. Since there have been a ton of 32GB drives selling cheap lately I was wondering if I could get a cheap USB hub and plug a couple of flash drives in. But I am not sure if the car will see all the drives simultaneously or if I would need to pick which drive I want to use. Does anyone have experience with multiple USB devies? When you go to browse do you see all artists or just the ones on a particular flash drive? Either way I was going to use the extra USB connector on the APIM and hide all of this in the center console.
  22. It could be but if two attempts already failed I think I would be hard pressed to continue to try. I still think something was screwed up in my install package for 2.11 since it took well over an hour to complete and now the system is way worse than before. So if it doesn't seem to go smoothly I wouldn't push your luck unless your 2.8 is terrible. I would say bring it to the dealer for them to do or wait for the rewrite.
  23. Problem is he is in Germany....not sure when/if Ford will send him the update. I would imagine Ford will make it available to ROW but doubt they will mail out the USB drives.I think your best bet is to take it to the delaer and let them do the install if the current upgrade is giving you trouble.
  24. Congrats enjoy the new ride and update your profile...still says you drive an accord
