  1. I went to Retro Solutions for the HID kit in my 2011 Sport and so far it seems to be working out well. I had an issue for a while where the driver side bulb would fire and then turn off, but that seems to have resolved itself (not sure if that's an indication of a problem with the ballast or the bulb). Never had a problem with the passenger side. As far as which kit, if the 2012 isn't listed, email or call them directly, I've had good luck with their support and answering questions. Other than that, the kit was pretty much plug and play with the biggest issue being where to actually mount the ballasts.
  2. I haven't seen anything commercially available but check out this thread for a DIY solution. This is what I've done and it works pretty well.
  3. Well, unless they have the infrastructure in place to handle a sudden increase in downloads when the re-write is released, it MAY actually be cheaper to send out USB drives (definitely old-school, but it definitely works). But since we don't know the specifics of what went into the analysis in the first place, it's just idle speculation. And like I said,it's not just hard costs that go into a decision but a lot of intangibles as well. They weighed the pros and cons and decided to take a course of action that was the most cost effective based on their analysis. I guess we agree on something. If that's your opinion, then OK. I like to understand what factors might be actually driving the decision making process.
  4. Hey, I was only quoting what spongers said "And I am defending Ford, because while they did screw the pooch on this one, they realize that in a big way, and doing everything they can or know how to fix the problem" My only point is don't assign altruistic motives to a multi-billion dollar company. If they didn't feel it was a valid business decision (and all kinds of tangibles and intangibles go into that kind of analysis), they wouldn't be doing the re-write. The fact that they are doing it is great, but if it wasn't the most cost effective way to deal with it, they wouldn't be doing it. I'll say it again, it's just business.
  5. Geez, you're absolutely right - I must have lost an inch somewhere. Anyone have any experience (good or bad) with one brand over the other? I would think they're pretty much identical, they're just springs, right?
  6. Proximity sensors must be new on the 2012's. As far as I know, the 2011's and earlier only had obstruction sensors.
  7. No need to defend them, they just made a business decision. It's going to cost them less to fix the problem than it would to deal with it on an ongoing basis. They're in business to make money for their shareholders and that's what they're doing with the re-write. Nothing more and nothing less.
  8. Thanks, a well written and thought out comment on the current situation.
  9. It would be great if you could actually verify whether or not a US dealer could do this or not. When I took mine into the dealer to have it done, they said they actually turned them on, but then somehow they reset back to original (no DRL). At that point they were at a loss and just shrugged and said there wasn't anything else they could do. No explanation of why it mysteriously "reset".
  10. I was just wondering who actually owns and runs this forum? Obviously Ford has their brand all over it but is this actually sanctioned and/or supported by Ford corporate? Anyone have any idea?
  11. I'm hoping that someone will contact me regarding the moderator of this forum. Overall I think it's a great forum but if you disagree with him he threatens people with blocking their access or shutting down the discussion. If there was anyway to get a response from someone, I'd appreciate it.

  12. If you were an owner of a vehicle with MFT then perhaps you'd be venting as well but since you're not, your opinion on the matter carries very little weight. So with all due respect, your opinion on this thread isn't needed anymore or appreciated.
  13. Great. I look forward to your non-participation in the discussion going forward.
  14. Most aftermarket kits (either H&R or Eibach) will lower the car by about 1/2" to 3/4". Trying to lower it by 2" is a lot to compensate for - tires, wheel wells, suspension settings, etc. You're definitely in race mode at that point.
  15. Let me see - No., but some certainly do. Absolutely agree, myself included. Well, again this is still strictly speculation on your part and is only YOUR opinion, unless you can actually back it up with some data. To be clear I have NEVER stated that EVERY MFT owner is having problems, those are your words, not mine. As far as proving something "time and time again", I tried that with the thread asking if anyone was satisfied with their MFT There were about 3 or 4 positive responses, which in comparison to the number of dissatisfied owners, puts them in the minority. Totally unscientific, but that's all we have so far that I'm aware of. I certainly wouldn't classify that as "time and time again" but if you have some other information you'd like to share, I'd be glad to see it. I'd suggest that you follow your own advice and stop throwing unsubstantiated claims out there ("we've proven it time and time again." - Really? When was that?) to keep the discussion focused on the facts as much as possible. You're more than entitled to your opinion, just as much as anyone is on this forum, but if you state something as though it's fact when there's nothing to support it, don't be surprised if someone takes issue with what you've posted.
  16. Well, unless you have some data to back that up, then I guess that's just speculation on your part, isn't it? I'll agree that there are a large number of Edge owners that don't care about this, but that's likely because they don't have MFT (like yourself).
  17. On a slightly different note, I also purchased the TPMS tool for $45 and never actually used it. I was waiting for the tire indicator to come on but so far, nothing. The OEM wheels are stored about 60' away from the garage so I can't believe that the system is detecting them and I've taken it on a couple of 2 day trips away from home, so I'm not convinced that the system is actually working. I actually dropped the pressure in one of the tires down to about 20lbs or so and then drove it around a couple of blocks to see if it would trigger. I didn't want to to put any real mileage on it when it was under-inflated so I inflated everything back to the correct pressure and have been driving it like that ever since. Either way, no TPMS indicator after about a month of having them on.
  18. Yes, but they were included in the package from TireRack so the tires were ready to go when I got them.
  19. Akirby - Are you aware that there's an entire industry out there devoted to analyzing new tech products before they're released? They're called tech blogs and this is nothing more than that. Based on the little we do know, we're making educated assumptions about what may or may not be happening in the future. It's not bitching or griping about it, we're just having a (slightly more than usual) animated discussion about what might be coming down the line.
  20. I haven't run into this issue either.
  21. Could you please pin the other thread as well so that it's just as easy to find? Also, since Ford hasn't officially released any information other than their press releases, I'm just curious what value the information that might be posted here would have as it would effectively be second or third hand? Do you have any direct information related to the upcoming release?
  22. I would certainly hope that you wouldn't delete or edit any posts that are well within the standards of the forum. You are more than welcome to share your own opinion any particular subject, but I don't think it's right that you push your role as moderator in order to support your own point of view.
  23. Actually, as far as I can tell from the responses on the forum, you're about the only one that finds it annoying. The majority of us would like to discuss our opinions on Ford's response (or lack of) to this fiasco, and that's what we're doing.
  24. Interesting...One of the things that the reviewer mentions a couple of times is that the re-write makes much better use of hardware acceleration so the CPU isn't necessarily doing all the work. He also says that when the system is turned off, everything goes into suspend mode so it doesn't have to be warm booted when the car is started (right now the Nav is cold booted on startup contributing to the long load times).
