  1. Thanks, I think I may have seen you driving around town the other day. There can't be that many black 2011 Sports in Mpls! The tires were about $650 and the wheels (Platinum Monarch's, painted black) were about $600.
  2. Ah, but section 3.2 - a 1972 Pontiac with a 455 cubic inch engine....those were the days!
  3. I got mine from TireRack - great service, fast delivery, good price. 18" x 8" wheels 245/60R18 Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice tires TPMS I wasn't sure about the wheels until I installed them but to be honest, I kind of like the blacked out look. (loosecannon - what do you think?)
  4. Yes. Until the new version is released, new cars will still be built with 2.11 installed. There might be a short period of time (days, a week?) just prior to when the new version is released that manufacturing will have it, but for the time being, 2.11 is it.
  5. The iPads are designed so that they won't actually charge off a USB port unless the cover is closed or the screen is blank. They need to have a power source with enough current capacity (typically an AC adapter). I just plugged my iPad into a 12v to USB adapter and it's not charging but like I said, if you shut the screen off, it will actually start to charge up. I also had no issue with playing audio off of it through the USB or Bluetooth connection so I'm not sure what Ford's talking about in the press release.
  6. Geez, lighten up. It's just product placement but maybe it's a little bit funny that the screen they decide to use is one that if a user is not having any problems, they're not likely to ever see. If you are having problems, then you see it all too often.
  7. With the MFT re-write hopefully coming out in a couple of months, there seems to be a fair bit of discussion about whether or not people are actually satisfied with any of the Gen2 versions of MFT (v2.4 - v2.11). While I think the rest of the car is great, and even though I haven't had any major MFT issues, I still have to deal with the laggy response, spotty blue-tooth operation and rudimentary navigation system on a regular basis. Anyone care to step forward and say that they're completely (or even mostly) satisfied with how MFT is working for them?
  8. Based on what? Past experience? If they were just as confident in the past and still released the software, then they can't really say that they understand what a testing process is supposed to do. If they weren't confident about the testing process, and they released the software anyway knowing how flawed it was, then a public apology would be a great place to start (not that it's likely to occur).
  9. Just contact the parts department at your dealer.
  10. To be honest, the subject of that thread is "Is anyone satisfied with their Edge?", which is a bit different than being focused on whether or not they're satisfied with MFT. If that's the only example you can come up with, I'd say that it's far outweighed by the number of threads on this forum that are related to MFT issues. Based on that alone, I'd say that the majority of people are frustrated and dissatisfied with MFT. Personally, I really like my Edge. It's just the type of car I wanted to get and I'm happy with what I paid for it. I just happen to agree with JeffIsHereToo that they should be ashamed of the product and admit to it instead of marketing the new release as though they only want to continually improve the product out of good will. That kind of spin in a press release may work with the media and with anyone who hasn't actually used it on a day to day basis, but for those of us that have, it's insulting. </soapbox>
  11. Simple answer, yes. All you're doing is replacing the halogen bulb with a different type of bulb. It needs a few extra pieces to make it light up (ballasts, maybe a wiring harness), but if you had high and low beams before, you'll have them with HIDs'.
  12. I couldn't agree more that from a product delivery standpoint, they should be ashamed of what they've foisted on the public. Every time I see a Ford ad on TV that's highlighting how great MFT is, I want to scream (actually, I usually do scream) "THAT"S NOT WHAT IT"S LIKE AT ALL!" I've spent 35 years in IT infrastructure and have purchased lots of bleeding edge and beta software, but at least I knew what the risks were when I deployed it. With MFT, I haven't had the number of issues that some people have experienced, and I've learned to live with its idiosyncrasies in my 2011 Sport, but I really feel sorry for the people that may not have the technical insight into what's happening behind the scenes and are even more frustrated with it than I am. Best thing I ever did was install an On/Off switch inline with fuse 29 so I could reboot the system when I wanted to (even driving down the road).
  13. Best place to start is with swapping out the speakers in the doors with a decent set as they are about as cheap a speaker as you can get. I replaced mine with Polk MM571's and there was a noticeable improvement in the sound quality. Once you do that, you can start to consider amps, equalizers, or more.
  14. I'd consider that pretty normal operation (as bad as it is). The way the system is currently written, it seems to have a problem with dealing with too many interrupts at once so when it gets busy, it tends to exhibit unexpected behavior. Unlike earlier versions, it's also designed to detect this and at the first opportunity, reboot, which is what you're seeing when the "Scheduled Maintenance" screen comes up. Until the full re-write comes out int the spring (keep your fingers crossed) you'll have to learn to live with it.
  15. I wasn't sure about the whole matte black look until just the other day I saw a Nissan 350Z on the street and now I get what you're trying to achieve. if it's done right (and I think you've nailed it). it looks great. Congrats, it's a great overall look.
  16. With 10K miles on the motor, I'm getting 23 - 24 MPG at 60 MPH. On a recent road trip to Montana, I was pushing it pretty hard on those wide open Interstates and the mileage definitely dropped to around 19 - 20 MPG. The sweet spot sure seems to be around 55 - 60 MPH for the best mileage. As far as the oil changes go, I'm less inclined to believe any dealer and only change the oil when the system says to. My first oil change was right around 10K miles.
  17. I tried to order an extra set of covers when I installed my HID kit and when they arrived, the parts guy got a funny look on his face and said that they were showing a cost of $0. To me that means they're free, but to him, that meant that he had to find a valid price. So far, that's taken more than 3 month's without an answer. I think I'm resigned to the fact that if I ever switch back to the original bulbs, I'll just cut out the wiring, leave the grommet in place and not worry about it.
  18. What I did was install a switch inline with the power circuit to the APIM and then mounted it behind the glove box door so that it's hidden except for when it starts to misbehave and you just lean over, open the glove box, and power it off and then back on. Doesn't matter if the vehicle is in motion or not. It works great and it's so satisfying to feel like you have control over it, rather than the other way around.
  19. The only additional component in the harness is a capacitor to filter out any pulses in the signal. I believe that most aftermarket kits have that as well since it's a generic problem.
  20. I have the Retro-Solutions kit on my 2011 Sport which has been working great for 4 months now. As far as the harness is concerned, rather than drawing power directly through the OEM wiring, the harness connects into the existing headlight circuit which then fires a 12V relay to turn on the ballasts using a fused connection to the battery. The wiring in the harness is fairly heavy gauge so there isn't any issue with over heating, fried connectors, etc. So nothing really "special" with the harness that you couldn't recreate yourself with a handful of parts and a crimp tool but in my opinion, it's a solution that works well for the price.
  21. That's exactly how I use it as well. "Embrace the keypad"...my new tagline.
  22. You will always need to hold the button for the last 6 inches of travel. It's a "safety" feature which is odd since there are videos on Ford's website showing how awesome the obstruction detection is in the sun roof mechanism. If, for some reason, the mechanism loses track of where the home position is, you'll need to hold the switch constantly to open or close it to any degree. The re-initialization procedure establishes when the home position is again and from that point on, it can fully open with a single press of the switch and close up to the 6 inch point with a single press of the switch.
  23. Bake at 265 for 7 minutes. If you want to check out some other resources, go to www.hidplanet.com.
  24. Studies have shown that tire pressure remains more consistent with nitrogen since the oxygen and water vapor in compressed air are absorbed or transmitted at a faster rate through the sidewall than the nitrogen (oxygen 4 times faster, water vapor 10 times faster). Left unchecked, an under-inflated tire has more rolling resistance and consequently lower gas mileage, shorter life span, etc. Best course of action, check your tire pressure regularly when cold, and make sure it's at the recommended level. Another aspect of this, is that since compressed air is 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, as the oxygen and water vapor is slowly absorbed into the sidewall and you replace it with more compressed air, the over all percentage of nitrogen will increase. So over time, assuming all the gas in the tire is not purged and then replaced with fresh compressed air, you will begin to approach a pure nitrogen gas. I'll leave it to someone else out there to do the math and determine how long that would take and if it would even occur in your lifetime.
