  1. Pulling fuse 29 will reset the MFT/SYNC system so it reboots. If that doesn't fix it then there's probably a hardware issue with the APIM that the dealer will need to fix.
  2. Nothing against the new engine but I have to say it's pretty lame that they use an image of a Sport model for the press release when the EcoBoost isn't even available as an option.
  3. I had a similar problem and it was fixed by re-initializing it. Check out this thread - http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/7572-how-to-fix-ford-edge-sunroof-problem/
  4. That's exactly what I did. I mounted it behind the glove box door but it could go anywhere and it works great. I like to call it "The Switch That Ford Forgot"!
  5. Don't worry about it, just get v2.11 installed. There were numerous bugs fixed and the overall reliability improved. Until then, just pull fuse 29 if you need to reset the MFT system (no different than rebooting a PC).
  6. That's probably closer to the truth than we imagine.
  7. As soon as they finish re-writing "MFT 95".
  8. I just used a regular automotive illuminated toggle switch, the kind that you can find at any auto store, and mounted it just to the left of the actual glove box opening in the slightly recessed area of the dash. It's actually covered by the glove box door so you don't normally see it. If I get a chance I'll post a pic.
  9. If you've got v2.11 installed, there's a good chance that it will reboot itself in the background the next time the car is shut down. In reality, it's no different than having to reboot your PC occasionally, except they made it a pain to do. After pulling fuse 29 a couple of times I finally actually installed a toggle switch in the power line going to the APIM so I could reset it whenever I wanted to. I don't have to do it that often but it's so much nicer than having to squeeze in there, pull off two covers, remove the fuse, and then replace it without dropping it. Now I just drop the glove box and flip a small, recessed switch off, and then back on.
  10. Actually pretty easy once you take the plunge. The biggest issue is where to mount the ballasts but there are lots of good options. The other issue is that they look great with any of the newer projector housings but you may not get the results you want if it's a regular reflector housing without some additional re-aiming of the headlights, etc.
  11. This was an issue that I saw with v2.8 but seemed to work if you made the resolution a bit smaller - like 800 x 376. It seems to be fixed with the upgrade to v2.11 as I had to reload all my wallpapers again and since I couldn't find the ones I used before, I had to recreate them all. I scaled them all down to 800 x 378 and they all loaded without issues.
  12. They're called low profile ATM fuses and you can substitute a regular ATM style fuse in their place if you want to use a fuse tap to get power to an accessory. The only issue is whether or not the fuse cover will fit back into place (usually it does). I ran into the same issue when I was wiring my radar detector in and used a regular ATM fuse of the same capacity, didn't have any problems. It does make you wonder why they decided to change formats though.
  13. Don't get too concerned about MFT, if you want it, get it. As long as your expectations are in line with reality (ignore the Ford marketing hype), and you've got the latest version installed (2.11 as of right now), you'll be fine. It's a great technology that has a ways to go but has vastly improved in just the last year.
  14. Check out Retro-Solutions (multiple threads on the forum or go to www.retro-soluitons.com). They've got good quality kits available and the support is there if you have any install questions. Having said that, keep in mind that any after market HID kit is illegal. That didn't stop me from installing them in my Sport but despite the fact that they are sold everywhere, after market kits are not actually legal for sale or usage. Up to you whether or not you want to install them.
  15. Unfortunately there's no voltage gauge available. What type of radar detector do you have? Depending on the model, the better solution might be to hardwire it into one of the fuses that supply power only when the engine is running (that's what I did with mine) or it may have an timeout that shuts it down after a set period of time.
  16. I stream Pandora all the time and don't have any issues with my 2GB data plan with AT&T (I've got an iPhone 3GS). As long as you've got good coverage from your carrier, it's a great solution. It would be great if it was available as an integrated MFT app but I'm not expecting much while they finish re-working the base software.
  17. I think that saying that MFT has a problem with just about everything it does is going a bit far. Navigation is one area that they focused on with the 2.11 release so it's less likely that the system will reboot since it's less likely to lock up for some unknown reason. Still better than versions prior to 2.8 - if it locked up, it would stay that way until you either shut the car off or pulled fuse 29. They still have a long ways to go but 2.11 is definitely better than prior versions.
  18. It could be the bluetooth implementation on those devices. The track selection works on my iPhone 3GS. Also, pull fuse #29 to reset the SYNC system, not fuse #3.
  19. Go to syncmyride.com and you should see what version of software was loaded.
  20. One of the biggest areas that was improved with MFT2.11 was the integration with NAV. Prior to 2.8 the system would tend to just hang when the NAV system got busy. With 2.8 they built in more watchdog timers that would kick the system into a reboot if it became unresponsive due to NAV interaction. With 2.11, they addressed a lot of those issues. I just upgraded to 2.11 yesterday so not enough time on the road yet to tell if there were any significant improvements in this area. As far as your original question goes - the integration is OK and the Sync Services are nice, but it is one ugly NAV system - bad fonts, poor UI. I don't necessarily regret getting it because I don't use it that much, but if I had to depend on it, I'd probably stick with a Garmin.
  21. Glad you like the Edge, I sail as much as I can during the summer up on Lake Superior around the Apostle Islands. Some of the best cruising areas around although I race on a J/109 most of the time. The only time I regret having the Edge is in the spring when I used to load up my Chevy pickup with stuff to get the boat ready to go into the water. Hard to haul ladders and scaffolding in the back of the Sport! Other than that, no regrets at all.
  22. So, have you tried the initialization procedure mentioned in the thread?
  23. I don't disagree that most accidents are caused by inattentive drivers but regardless, I would still like to have the option of turning them on, even if it's a dealer-only modification. The fact that they are required in Canada, and anecdotal evidence suggests that they are available for fleet purchases in the US, would seem to indicate that it is not a technical issue. If I feel safer with them on (my opinion only), then that should be my option. In any event, after having the dealer fail at turning them on (despite what appeared to be some initial success) I just did it myself and installed a DRL control to turn just my headlights on whenever the car is running. Not quite as nice as having them come on in just drive and reverse, but it works for me.
