  1. Hi freeky. :D Well, if you really want it, the best way to pitch it to your wife would probably be emphasizing the safety aspects of AWD. Just do us a favor, don't complain about the lower MPG figures you are getting afterwards. We already know. Let us know how you do with the little woman, and good luck! :beerchug: PS - I hope it is obvious to anyone reading this, that I am kidding! :shades:
  2. No, they are not "screwing you". That is the same choice which Retail (non-Plan) buyers must make. It is one or the other for everyone. In other words, if you were purchasing retail, you would only be able to get "$1500 cash back OR the $500 bonus cash and the 3.9% APR". When you purchase on the X-Plan, the rules are the same. Good luck! :beerchug:
  3. Hi John. :D Well, maybe everyone who viewed so far is having a bad day, and waiting until they feel better? Here is my opinion on the FWD/AWD question: While the vehicle will handle better in inclement weather, there does seem to be a sizable MPG penalty, according to most accounts. I have a 2007 Lincoln MKZ, and decided against the AWD option, as I felt the advantages were outweighed by the added cost, complexity and MPG penalty for where I live. I live in NJ, and obviously realize the situation of others will differ. While we do sometimes get heavy snow/blizzards here, I do not have to leave the house if the weather is that bad, do not live in a remote area, etc. I know that there are others who do need it, and feel the AWD is worth it. I respect their decision, and for them, it is worth it. Take your personal situation into account, weigh the pros and cons and decide what is best for you. As to the X-Plan question. Yes, the X-Plan price will almost certainly give you a better deal than negotiating on your own. Keep in mind that you are also entitled to all publicly available Cash Incentives when you purchase using the X-Plan. So your actual price would be the X-Plan minus any available Incentives. If you still have doubts that it will give you the best pricing, I would recommend this: Go here LINK: Ford Direct. Use the "Search Inventory" function to find a vehicle, at a Dealership other than the one you would normally purchase. Go there and try to negotiate your own price, not letting them know you already know the X-Plan price. Be sure you get the bottom line price, including all fees, charges, taxes, etc etc. If you can get a price which is below X-Plan, buy it. The vast majority of times, that will not be the case. Then, you can go back to the Dealer you would normally purchase from, and order/purchase with the X-Plan (once you have a PIN). However, essentially X-Plan will give you the best price, unless you are looking to buy a vehicle that the Dealership is really desperate to unload (i.e. older models, demos etc.). So I would recommend just narrowing your focus to getting an X-Plan PIN and using it. Good luck! :beerchug:
  4. Hi SHIZZY. :D Sorry, maybe I was not clear. The site you linked seems to be run by a "Lombard Ford". Is that a Dealer in your area? Those seem to be "MSRP" prices on ESP Plans. Just like the MSRP (Window Sticker) on a car. ESP plan pricing is negotiable. You should not pay those "MSRP" prices. That is all I was trying to say. As I stated, if you already knew that, great. You would be surprised how many people do not know that the pricing is negotiable. I just figured I would give you a heads up. The site I was talking about trying to find the link for, is an online site which offers discount pricing (well below MSRP) for Ford ESP Plans. Good luck in your shopping. :beerchug:
  5. Hi SHIZZY. :D The ESP Plans vary by vehicle, type of Plan, length of time you want vehicle covered by the Plan, amount of extended mileage you want covered by the Plan, etc. Finding out what any of us paid would be basically worthless, as you can't compare apples to apples. Then, to top all that off, the pricing is negotiable, and will vary from Dealer to Dealer, just like buying a car. Your best bet would be to decide which Plan you want (Basic, Premium etc), then figure how many miles you drive per year and how many years you think you would like to extend your Warrant to. Then go to several different Dealers and negotiate your best price on the Plan which would fit your mileage/time constraints (48,000 miles to 100,000 miles/4 years to 7 years). And remember, you do not have to purchase the ESP Plan from the Dealer that sold you the car. You can purchase it from any Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Dealer. So purchase it from the Dealer that gives you the best price, for the Plan you want. Also, keep in mind that your current Warranty for an Edge is 3 years/36,000 miles Bumper to Bumper, and 5 years/60,000 Powertrain. On an MKX, it is 4 years/50,000 and 6 years/70,000. I have seen an online site with ESP Plan prices in the past. If I can find it, I will come back and post a link. My apologies if you already knew this information, but I figured better safe than sorry. Good luck! :beerchug:
  6. Hi katiesdady. :D Glad to hear they repaired it for you. As to what the problem was, who knows? Maybe there was a loose connector/plug/wire that was corrected when they took out the module and then re-installed it? Just a guess. Anyway, good luck! :beerchug:
  7. Hi dfreeman. :D On the 2008's, it is a "Factory Ordered", but Dealer installed option. Or of course you can have your Dealer add it later, if you purchased a 2008 without it. On 2007's, it was strictly a Dealer installed option. If you already have an Edge without the Remote Start System (as you do), you can have your Dealer install the Ford Remote Start System. It is available through your Dealer and Ford Accessories. Of course, there are other Remote Start Systems available, but they are not Ford Accessory Systems. Good luck! :beerchug:
  8. Hi katiesdaddy. :D Just as an FYI, so you don't wind up in an un-winnable argument if your MKX part does not come in for another 12 days. Your car would only possibly qualify for a lemon law buy back if they absolutely could not fix the "SYNC" problem after multiple tries. Your MKX is not "Out of Service". "Out of Service" means not drivable at all, or not drivable in a safe manner. You have chosen to leave your vehicle there while the part is on back order. You could just as easily be driving it until the module arrives. In fact, if I were you I would drive my MKX, instead of leaving it in the Dealership lot (even more so since you don't like the loaner). Either way, I respect your right to do as you like. I am only trying to help, as I just do not want you to look silly while insisting that they have to buy back your MKX because it took three weeks to get the "SYNC" module in. Hope they repair it soon. Good luck! :beerchug:
  9. Hi carbonedge. :D You are welcome. :beerchug: I agree with you. What the various Manual editions state certainly make the subject confusing. But it certainly seems the answer to "vsutton's" question is: No "Oil Service Warning" on the 2007. Perhaps everyone can just download the Manual and take a look for themselves now (as you had already done), instead of speculating. Lex, I did not overlook what Tom (and you) linked to. Unfortunately, the information on that site would seem to be incorrect (unless that feature was added in 2008), as sites like that often are. As an example, the information listed on Edmunds.com told me that there was equipment I wanted on my MKZ that was not available, when not only was it available, it was standard equipment. And they are one of the more accurate third party sites. If you want the correct information about a vehicle, get the answers from the manufacturer (in this case, Ford). We have all (well, most of us) come to some sort of agreement now that while there is a brief mention of an "Oil Service Warning" in various places, it seems as though Ford changed their mind and did not include it in the final build (at least for 2007, the year "vsutton" was inquiring about). As you stated, your link is for the 2008 Edge. "vsutton" was inquiring about the 2007 Edge. Since you took the time to Google Search your link, have you also taken the time to download the Owners Manual from the Ford Fleet site, where you can find the definitive answer? If you do download the PDF version of the 2007 Edge Owners Manual ("vsutton's" model year), as some of us now have, you will see that. Perhaps the 2008 Edge has added that "Oil Service Warning"? When you have the time, download the PDF version from the Ford Fleet site and take a look. Please let us know what you find out. At this point, if after looking in their Owners Manual, or downloading the PDF version, anyone still doubts all of this information, their best bet would probably be to contact their Dealerships Service Department and ask them. I would hope everyone agrees that barring any further credible information, we have beat this one to death? Good luck! :beerchug:
  10. Hi carbonedge. :D I would be curious to see what the actual "Hardcopy" says. Especially since it seems very few people actually read them (just kidding). I am getting my online Owners Manuals, Maintenance Schedules etc, from here: LINK: Online Manuals/Schedules/etc. Hope this helps. Good luck! :beerchug:
  11. Hi all. :D Changing gears for a moment. Just wanted to make mention of the Edge's oil change interval, since one or two of you have posts in this thread that lead me to believe you have not checked the "Maintenance Schedule". The recommended oil change for the Edge's 3.5L engine is 7,500 miles (not the older 3,000 or 5,000 mile intervals). Of course, everyone is free to change it sooner if they like. However, I figured better safe than sorry, since this will be a longer interval than most are used to on older cars. And not to preach, but this is just another reason why we (notice I say we, including me :shades: ) should all read our Owners Manuals and Maintenance Schedules. Good luck! :beerchug: PS - Carbonedge, I think I was editing my previous post (#21), while you were composing your last one (#22). I added some info, if you care to take a look.
  12. Hi carbonedge+. :D That is actually why I recommended the original poster look in his Owners Manual, because I know these things are always confusing. Under "Oil", the Online version of the 2007 Edge Owners Manual lists exactly what I copied and pasted in my last post. It makes no mention of the "change oil soon warning, message center". EDIT: I see where you are saying that under "Engine Oil", it lists the following: Engine oil ..................................275 change oil soon warning, message center .......................275 checking and adding ..............275 dipstick ....................................275 I see what you are talking about, but as you said, there is no mention of the message on page 275. In fact, if you notice, the Online version even lists a different page than your hard copy (275 vs. 271). Sometimes, these things happen, where a change is made to the actual production vehicle, after the manuals are printed. It seems like that may be the case here. This may seem like a stupid question, but is your Edge a 2007, or 2008. It could make a difference in the Manual. Anyway, at this point, unless someone has actually seen a "Change Oil Soon" warning light up on their dash, it looks as though there is none. I think our advice about asking the Dealer would be the best bet. Good luck! :beerchug:
  13. Well carbonedge, to try and help, I just downloaded the Online version of the Edge Owners Manual. My reading of the Manual would indicate that the answer to "vsutton's" question is no, there is no oil service indicator (or "oil changer reminder"). The Online Manual does not mention an "Oil Service Light" or anything resembling it, either in the oil change section, or the dashboard warning light/information center clusters. That, to me would indicate there is none, since the Manual will tell you what is there, but it will not tell you what is not there. In the Index, under "O" for oil, it only lists "Oil (see Engine oil) ..................275" (referring to page 275). Also, in the Driver Controls - Message Center Section (pages 98-107), it makes no mention of such a warning system. Please understand that I am not saying the following to be a wiseguy: The answer in the Manual seems clear to me. Again, it makes no mention of any type of Oil Service Monitor, anywhere that I can find. If that answer does not suffice, and unless/until someone has some reliable information otherwise, I would recommend asking the Dealers Service Department. Good luck. :beerchug:
  14. Hi Lex. Before you even read past the next sentence, ask yourself truthfully: When have you ever seen one of my posts taunt someone? I, along with others like "akirby", supply answers to peoples questions. In fact, again, I have been nothing but polite and helpful to you, and others. In fact, I defended you when some forum members were expressing some pent up anger towards you. Perhaps you have forgotten. As I stated, nobody including you, had answered "vsutton's" post from the 28th. He posted it again twice today. That would be three times, in three days. It was rather obvious that it would likely not get answered again. So, instead of having him wait days again for no answer, I told him where he could find the answer, since he obviously had not checked the Owners manual before. My answer was helpful. It told him where to find the answer, as opposed to waiting days for no answer. Seems pretty clear. Again, I did not know the answer since I do not own an Edge, so do not have an Edge Owners manual. I have an MKZ and a Cougar, so have had no need to download the online Edge Manual. If I know the answer to a question, I will post it. If I do not know the answer, and do not have the time to look it up, I will let the person know where they can find the answer. If I do not know where to look it up either, I do not post. You however, are expecting an Edge. Since, for some reason you saw fit to criticize how I answered the question, here is the link where you can download the Edge Owners Manual: LINK: Download Owners Manuals Please go download the Edge Manual. In this way, you can join us in sometimes looking up information for other forum members, as I already often do. Lead by example. And please keep in mind I would not have needed to launch into a "heck of a diatribe", if my polite and helpful originally posted answer had not been incorrectly attacked as being rude. Now, if you will stop beating the dead horse, we can get back to trying to help people. I do not hold a grudge, so please let it end now. Good luck Lex. :beerchug:
  15. Hello to both "tpm" and "Lex". :D I am going to be very polite about this, as I hope you will. As akirby stated, we do not own Edge's. We come here to help with what questions we can (as you well know Lex), and assist in looking up information when possible. "Tpm", with all due respect, your shoe tying analogy is faulty. You say, "You can tell someone their shoe is untied but WHY?? they will eventually trip over it and find out for themselves." In this case the correct analogy would be that you already know your shoe is untied and you asked us how to tie it. When we told you where you could learn how to tie it, you asked us to tie it for you! Then, you got mad because we wouldn't tie it for you! Or as "akirby" also correctly stated, "it's like someone sitting at their desk with a dictionary and asking someone else how to spell something." Except in this case, they are even going online to ask someone else to spell it. Now doesn't that seem silly? "Vsutton" first posted this question in another Edge Forum on the 28th, and has received no reply. He then posted it again this morning, in this Forum and another one. This means he has been waiting almost three days now for an answer with no luck. To be honest, it is most likely because others do not feel like answering a question that can easily be answered by the person asking it, if they would just open their Owners Manual. Instead of not replying at all, I politely replied today, asking if he had checked his Owners Manual, because the answer is in there. What exactly is wrong with that reply? I do not have an Edge Owners Manual. I can look it up online, but doesn't it make more sense for the person needing the answer to do that? Especially when all they have to do is open the Owners Manual, which they already own? In addition, as "akirby" stated, I did not just say "RTFM" (Read the F*****g Manual), as many others normally would, and I did not bring up the fact that there are Forum rules against posting the same question in multiple forums (in this case three different forums). We are just regular Joe's like you guys. We have no special library of answers. If we do not happen to know an answer off the top of our heads, we have to look it up. So, if we have to look it up, why can't others help answer their own questions once in a while by looking it up themselves? Seems reasonable, right? In addition, did it occur to either of you that you could have looked the answer up, just as easily as us? Why haven't you looked up the answer and given it to "vsutton"? Probably because it's not as easy to answer the questions as it is to ask them. Sometimes, the answer is going to be that you should look it up in the Owners Manual, or else you will have to wait for someone else to maybe answer, or possibly not get an answer, as "vsutton" has not for three days since his first post. He sure would have had his question answered if he had looked it up himself, right?. In addition, we are not asking anything more of others than what we do ourselves. I will always try to find the answer on my own first, before I post in a forum to be given the answer. Let's face it , it makes sense. "Vsutton" could have had the answer three day ago, if he just looked it up the first time. All I ask is that people treat me/us as politely as I/we treat them, and at least put in a minimum of effort to help themselves. If you feel the need to drag this on further, at least keep it polite. And to Allen ("akirby"), thank you for the kind words. Again, as we have been doing for sometime now, we will continue to try and help others with information. Just keep in mind we are not paid to do this, and sometimes the correct answer will be to let you know where you can find the information. Good luck. :beerchug:
  16. Hi vsutton. :D Have you checked your Owners Manual? The answer is there. Good luck with your Edge! :beerchug:
  17. Hi vsutton. :D Have you checked your Owners Manual? The answer is there. Good luck with your Edge! :beerchug:
  18. Hi ylf. :D Sometimes, options are bundled together. I did not go to the site to try and verify your concern, but if that is the only way the Navigation system is available, that is just the way it is. I would recommend that you check with your local dealer to see if the information on the website is up to date. Sometmes, the website is a bit out of date. At this point, that would be your hope. Good luck! :beerchug:
  19. Hey Lex. :D If you live in the US, they will not be turned on (unless you elected that option, which it seems you did not). If you live in Canada, by law they will. You would need to check with your Salesperson as to whether it is even an available choice for "non-Fleet" buyers. You are technically not a "Fleet" purchaser...your Dealer for some reason just has X-Plan purchases go through the "Fleet" department. Good luck! :beerchug:
  20. Hi h0te0d. :D It is likely the following: When you have not driven your car for awhile (even just overnight), a light coat of "surface rust" will develop on the brake rotors. The wetter the environment, the more rust there will be. When the car is first driven with this layer of surface rust, the first few applications of the brakes will wipe this rust off the rotors. When this happens, the brakes will seem to rumble or vibrate. This is normal. If this only seems to happen the first few times you apply the brakes, and then it disappears, this is the most likely cause. If it continues during the day as you are driving, that would not be normal, and there is something else causing the noise. Good luck! :beerchug:
  21. Hi SHIZZY.:D While I had no trouble visualizing what Poorboy meant, thanks for the description. I guess the point I was making was a bit too obscure. In other words, whether they fold forward 90 degrees (as you describe), or rearward 90 degrees (as they are designed to do), I see no difference or advantage. If you are pulling into/out of "the garage too close to the wall", fold them rearward (as the Owners Manual describes). Either way, they are folded against the vehicle for tight spaces. Perhaps some people do see a need for mirrors that fold forward, and if they see a need for that, more power to them. However, in this case it is a moot point. According to the Owners Manual, the Edge mirrors fold rearward. Good luck! :beerchug:
  22. Hi Poorboy! :D Huh...what? Think you must be misunderstanding what "hamman" stated. From the 2007 Owners Manual: Fold-away mirrors Pull the side mirrors in carefully when driving through a narrow space, like an automatic car wash. In other words, they either can be in the regular driving position, or, folded approximately 90 degrees inward, towards the door (for driving through narrow spaces, parking on narrow roads, etc.). Then, when resuming driving, you can fold them "outward", back to the regular driving position. How many other ways are you expecting them them to fold? Good luck. :beerchug:
  23. Hi billpinsc. :D According to the Owners Manual, if you do not know the "Factory Set" code, and have lost or do not have the "Wallet Card" with the "Factory Set" code, you need to go to your Dealer to have them recover the code. As to Lex's questions: Yes the "Factory Code" is a "Master Code". If you have the "Factory Set" master code, you can then set up to three other "Personal Codes". These "Personal Codes" can be erased or changed whenever you wish. However, the "Factory Set Code" is always still active and cannot be erased or changed. Good luck! :beerchug:
  24. Hi Grey. :D Poorboy replied to my mileage question earlier, stating that his '07 Edge has 9.5K miles. In addition, even if he is not the original owner, the 3 year/36,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty would still stand, along with the 1 Year/12,000 mile on the rotors. That is why either way, I was trying to impress upon him that he needs to take it to the Dealer, have it looked at, and then they will let him know what the problem is, and what will be done. Your brake advice is very good though. Good luck! :beerchug:
  25. Hi Poorboy. :D Unless the Dealer can attribute the problem to some sort of misuse/abuse, and if you are within the first 1 year/12,000 miles, it should be taken care of under Warranty. You are obviously under the 12,000 miles. Again, make an appointment with your Dealers Service Department, bring it in, have a Service Tech ride with you while you show him what your concern is, and let them take it from there. One way or another, whether we guess correctly what the problem is, or not, that is what you will need to do. Hope it is something simple, and covered under Warranty. Good luck! :beerchug:
