  1. Hi kalphoto. :D I want to make it clear up front that my area of expertise lies more in Purchasing than Leasing, but I will give you my opinion. The Edge you listed was actually at RE Barber Ford, ZIP Code 93003 (not 93033) so it took a little time to find it. The MSRP is $30,725. Not sure what they are charging you as an "Acquisition Cost" (the 93003 ZIP Code currently shows no Regional Incentive Cash Offers that I can find). Also, you do not mention your annual mileage limit. Anyway, considering the figures you mention, your "Out of Pocket" would be $13,345 over the full term of a 36 month Lease ($307 X 35 months (first month included in the down payment) + $2600 = $13,345. That would mean your total "Out of Pocket" would be less than 44% of the original MSRP of the vehicle. In general, that is a better than average Leasing Cost than is normally mentioned around the Forums, as long as your mileage is not more restricted than usual, and there are no other "surprises" when you sign the final contracts. I am not a huge fan of Leasing (due to the added layers of cost and complexity). But who cares what I think! In my opinion, it would seem to be a pretty good deal. Good luck! :beerchug:
  2. Hi U235. If you were to check, you would find that I and several others on this forum also do the bulk of the price checking for people on the Blue Oval Forums. We take pride in trying to give accurate information, not just guessing. I will leave the guessing to others. Among other variables, Incentives vary by region (sometimes by very large amounts). So an accurate answer concerning how good a price is cannot be given without more accurate information. As I stated earlier, since you feel you have everything under control, I wish you the best of luck with your shopping. By the way, Xanax is also often prescribed for ADD related reading disorders. So on a related topic, as noted in my earlier post we need the name and ZIP Code of the Dealership in addition to the VIN. So due to the incomplete information, I cannot help you. Good luck. PS - My jokes are also meant in good fun and not to be taken personally!
  3. Hi U235. :D Unfortunately, either my directions were not clear, or you misread them, as they do not include contacting any Dealers or "stringing them along". It was only asking you to do 5-10 minutes of Internet research on the FordDirect.com website, and to post the results of what you found back here. FordDirect.com is just a Ford website that lists Dealer Inventories. It does not involve contacting any Dealers or Dealer personnel. Since you did not want to take that time, I will respect your decision. Your original post asked if the offer you had was a good one and "Can I get them down any further?". We let you know that there was not enough accurate pricing information provided to correctly answer, and tried to explain how you could provide us the information needed to help you, that's all. Since you feel you have everything under control, I wish you the best of luck in your shopping. Good luck! :beerchug:
  4. Hi Tom. Yes, what druck52 said is 100% correct. The light will be an annoyance issue. But as long as you check your tire pressures regularly and perform proper tire maintenance (as everyone should whether they have a TPMS or not) it is not a safety issue. One of the many problems some predict the Government mandated TPMS systems will begin to cause. Good luck.
  5. Hi U235. :D Let me first say that I hope you understand I am giving you this information to inform and assist you, not to aggravate you. Having stated that, here is where the problems begin. You state that "I'm 'assuming' this is with no additional fees besides the typical license, docs, dest charge, docs, etc. Paying most of those fees and charges on top of the agreed upon price is not "typical". What good is an "agreed upon price" that seems good, if they then pack a load of fees and charges onto it. Most of those fees and charges you mention are profit packers that Dealers tack onto the sale price of unsuspecting customers. So right off the bat, if you think those fees and charges are "typical", you are ripe to be ripped off. First of all, any Destination Charge is already included in the MSRP and should not be added by a Dealer. Additionally, the only fees you should "expect" to pay are your State Tax, State Title and State Registration. Everything else is basically bogus charges. No other way to describe it. Don't mean to sound harsh, but you need to understand this from the beginning. Next, I offered you a specific set of directions (go to FordDirect.com etc etc) you could follow to allow us to get you a specific price on a specific vehicle, but you did not follow them. That is the only way you can get an accurate answer. Otherwise, you will get a bunch of guesses that may be accurate, or may not be. Either way, they are still just guesses, so how do you know which may be accurate and which are not? You need to go to FordDirect and find an appropriate vehicle, then post the requested information here. Then instead of wild guesses, we can give you accurate information. Good luck. :beerchug:
  6. Hi U235. :D Unfortunately you are quoting very general numbers: $38-39K MSRP, 4-5K off sticker, $500-$1,000 below Invoice. There is a lot of play in those numbers ($2,500 worth of play). How much Incentive money is involved in that pricing? At this point, do you have any idea how much in extra fees and charges the Dealer will tack onto the Final Purchase Contract (which they rarely reveal until you sit down to sign the papers)? If you really want to know whether you are getting a good deal, you should do the following: Go to FordDirect.com and click on the "Search Inventory" button. Follow the prompts to find an Edge that is just like, or close to what you are looking for. For the best comparison, try to find one optioned exactly like the one you were quoted a price for. When you find one (in your ZIP Code, or any other ZIP Code), come back here and post the VIN and model type (SE, Limited, etc), along with the name and ZIP Code of the Dealership. Once you have done that, we can find out the exact pricing, available Incentives in your area, etc etc, and give you an accurate answer to your question. Let us know when you have that information. Good luck. :beerchug:
  7. Hi Tom. :D The Tire Rack is correct. Any new sensors would need to be calibrated to your vehicles TPMS system. If you were to purchase four new Ford Sensors and straps, the sensors would still need to be calibrated for your vehicles system. Even if you were to transfer the original sensors from your old wheels, they would likely still need to be re-calibrated, since the "Recommended PSI" of the new wheel/tire combo will likely be different than the "Factory Recommendation" (on the drivers door jamb". If you purchase the Tire Racks TPMS sensors, are they compatible with the Ford OEM system (with their reputation for good customer service, I would assume they will be)? Happy Easter and good luck. :beerchug:
  8. Hi INTERAVE. :D Glad you got your Edge back. Good luck with it. As to the wheel lock question. You can get them from either the link PrinzII gave you (Gorilla) in his post on page 1 of this thread, or from the link I gave you on page 1 (McGard). You can order directly from them. You can also go to any large Automotive Supply Retailer (Strauss Auto, Pep Boys, etc etc), or any local "Speed Shop" and they will either stock or be able to order the above two major brands (McGard or Gorilla). They are available as Genuine Ford Accessories (McGard brand) from LINK: Team Ford Parts They are also available as Genuine Ford Accessories from your Dealers Parts Department (again, McGard brand), but will probably be a bit more expensive than the other options. Check some or all of the above for pricing, and go with the best offer. Good luck. :beerchug:
  9. Hi douyi. :D In addition to what the other members have already mentioned, you need to keep in mind that the Edge's transmission has an "Adaptive" (learning) feature. For a period of time, the transmission in a new Edge will "learn" the driving habits of the driver (to a certain extent). If this was a brand new Edge, with very few test drive miles on it, it is likely still in "Adaptive Mode". Of course,, there is also the chance that the Edge you drove had some sort of transmission problem, so it would not be a bad idea to test drive another to compare. Good luck. :beerchug:
  10. Hi edgyone. :D Like everyone already mentioned, yes they will work. The system does not know what size wheel is on the car, just measures what the sensors tell it concerning PSI. However, be sure of two things: First, that whoever does the work properly calibrates the sensors to the system. Second, that you are told (or ask) what tire pressure (PSI) they are using for the new tires when they are calibrated, as it may be different than the original tires PSI recommendation from Ford (on the drivers side door jamb sticker). You need to know this so you can keep the new tires properly inflated for safety reasons, and to avoid setting off the TPMS warning light. Good luck. :beerchug:
  11. Hi Williston. :D Concerning the headlights coming on when you turn on your windshield wipers, there are three factors that affect your question: 1 - The Owners Manual reads as follows: Windshield wiper features (if equipped with Autolamp feature) The exterior lamps will turn on with the ignition on, headlamp control in the Autolamp position and the windshield wipers are turned on (for a fixed period of time). So it would seem that first - not all Edge's necessarily have this feature. Second - if equipped, it only works in the "Auto Lamp" position. Third - They (the headlights) come on after a "Fixed period of time", not immediately. So maybe you have not waited long enough to see if they are on (just guessing here)? If you determine your Edge should have the feature and they are not working, bring your Edge in for service, and tell them the feature is not working correctly. Concerning the "Speed Sensitive Wipers". The speed does not change dramatically. Unless you are checking the speed change with a stopwatch, I do not think you would really be able to tell the difference. If you time them and they do not seem to be changing, take the car to the Dealer and ask them to check their function. Good luck. :beerchug:
  12. Hi NYEdge. :D Glad you are enjoying your new Edge. I just wanted to point out one thing. You mention in your previous post that you have "kept an eye on the 2nd MPG gauge, and it has gone up 1 MPG recently." Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but the Edge (like most cars) has only one "Average MPG" readout. I believe the other readout you are speaking of is the "Average MPH" (Miles Per Hour) readout. It is a readout for the "Average Speed" (in MPH) the vehicle has driven since it was last reset. Here is the description of the Message Center readouts from the Owners Manual (page 111 of the copy I used): Info menu This control displays the following control displays: • Odometer • Trip Odometer A or B • Distance to Empty • Average Fuel Economy • Average Speed • Compass (if equipped) • Trip Elapsed Drive Time 1 or 2 You will notice that there is only one "Average Fuel Economy" (Average MPG) reading. The other is "Average Speed" (MPH). Just thought I would mention this, in case you are confusing the two. Good luck. :beerchug:
  13. Hi "onthefrickingedge", and anyone else who is wondering about tire rotations (and with apologies upfront to "bulldog" and the help he was trying to give): :D The Owners Manual has a clear tire rotation diagram. It specifically states the proper rotation pattern is the following: Right front to right rear. Left front to left rear. Right rear to left front. Left rear to right front. My recommendation would be that it is best to follow that advice. Of course, if you should ever replace your original Factory tires with ones that are "Directional", you will need to adjust your rotation pattern accordingly ("bulldog" would then be 100% correct). Good luck! :beerchug:
  14. Hi onthefricikingedge. :D You mention "change" your front tires, but you do not mention rotating your tires. Have you ever rotated the tires, the way they are supposed to be (according to the Maintenance Schedule and Owners Manual)? Tire rotations on the Edge/MKX should be performed every 7500 miles. So you should have rotated your tires at least 4 times over the course of 30,000 miles of driving. If you are not rotating your tires properly, you should give it a try. It will save you a lot of money and headaches. Good luck. :beerchug:
  15. Hi Kevin. :D I'm sorry, I somehow missed your above question from 12/29. I never saw it until now, when your post was bumped back to the top by "onthefrickingedge". I don't know if you are still around at all (I hope so), but here is my late answer! My wife and I love the MKZ. Looks great inside and out. Beautiful ride and handling. The new 3.5L engine (well, it was new when we purchased 11/21/06) is absolutely fantastic. Smooth and powerful. We now have 8,000 miles and have needed no service other than the regular oil changes and tire rotation. Good luck! :beerchug:
  16. Hi bangedUP. :D Try here: LINK: Team Ford Parts When you get to the proper menu for the MKX, the mirrors are listed under "Front Door" on the drop down menu. Good luck. :beerchug:
  17. Hi pennstatefan. :D No, do not "rip it out". It is there to help aim and focus the low beams correctly. If you rip it out, you will most likely wind up throwing excess light and glare at oncoming drivers. Not normally a good idea, since if the glare is bad enough, it could be dangerous for both the oncoming driver and you. The high beam does not have one specifically because we are not supposed to have our high beams on when there are drivers coming towards us, so the light does not need to have as sharp a cut off as the low beams. By definition, low beams will never be as bright as high beams. They cannot be if oncoming drivers are going to be able to see. Good luck. :beerchug:
  18. Hi douyi. :D Just an FYI, in case you should decide to try and get an X-Plan PIN (Friends and Neighbors Plan), and it is good news too! The pricing is actually better than "Edgy Girl" quoted you. X-Plan pricing on Ford and Mercury vehicles will actually be slightly below Invoice price. Figure approximately $50 to $100 less than "Invoice". Plus, according to Fords Plan rules, the Dealer is limited to charging you a $75 maximum "documentation Fee", and can charge no other fees. If you can get a PIN, it is a hard price to beat on your own. Good luck. :beerchug:
  19. Hi pables. :D The "Vista Roof" (aka "BAMR"), cannot be Dealer installed. Whatever your Dealer would be installing will not be the same as a Factory Installed Vista Roof. I have a strong hunch that it will not even be close I would advise you have them show you another vehicle that they have performed an installation on before contracting for anything. Good luck! :beerchug:
  20. In addition to "Gorilla", McGard is also very good. If you buy the Ford Accessory wheel locks, they are McGard brand. I have McGard on my MKZ and the Cougar. LINK: McGard Wheel Locks Either brand is very good. Good luck. :beerchug:
  21. Hi Rob. :D I have seen information on the Blue Oval Forums stating that the JOB 1 production date for the 2009 Edge is 9/2/08 (I can't vouch for the accuracy). The "Order Bank" will "usually" open up approximately 2 months before the JOB 1 production date. As the year progresses, your Dealer should be able to give you more accurate dates. If you are within a stones throw of the production line, you can probably expect delivery in 5 to 7 weeks of order time, if you order after JOB 1 production begins. Now must add all the disclaimers about production delays, Dealer allotment problems, transportation delays, etc etc. Again, your Dealer should be able to give you more accurate information, when you are closer to ordering. I can't help with any information on questions 1 and 4. Much too early to accurately predict that information. Changes to the Limited are probably in the works even now as far as final decisions. And with the economy the way it is, Canadian pricing/exchange rates are in a state of flux. Good luck. :beerchug:
  22. Hi dckotwicki. :D Well, I can't explain AskFord's answers, other than to say they gave basic answers which are true, but not what most people want to hear. As to your questions. 5W-20 is the recommended oil viscosity. If you use any other oil viscosity, or use a 5W-20 which does not meet the minimum SAE standards that Ford specifies, your warranty coverage on engine related problems can be voided. Not saying coverage definitely will be denied, just that it can be if the Dealer/Ford decide to push the issue. Therefore, if you use a non-approved oil, you need to go with the assumption you have voided your warranty concerning engine wear related coverage. Yes you can do your own oil changes, and if you keep the receipts for your oil and filters, you will be safe (as long as you are using the proper oil and filter). Good luck. :beerchug:
  23. Hi GettnEdgey. :D Well, according to transport scheduling, should be a week at the most, hopefully less. Hope it's less! Good luck. :beerchug:
  24. Hi Cappi. :D Was this a new or used Edge? New vehicles from Ford are delivered with two keys standard. If the Dealer attempted to charge you for a second key on a new Edge, they were robbing you. If it was a new Edge, you should call the Ford Customer Service number (it is listed in your Owners Manual) and file a complaint. If it was a used Edge, then the story is a little different. Perhaps the previous owner only turned in one key when they traded it in. Even so, for the sake of good will, the Dealer still should have cut you a extra key for free, or for a minimal charge. However, either way, it is not Ford's fault. Dealers are independent franchises, and by law the auto manufacturers have little control over the dishonest ones. Good luck! :beerchug:
