    Dirty Martian

I figured there would of been a potato involved.
  2. OSRAM Night Breaker Plus 12v 55w Still in the sealed plastic box. Husky's can't be trimmed. Just something I will have to get used to.
  3. I'll keep this in mind if/when a bulb goes out. Bummer is that I have a set of Osram H7's that don't fit anything I have at the moment. Installed the Husky mud guards. Everything went fine, but I feel the front guards are a tad too big....maybe if they were an inch or so smaller. Oh well. Not going to send them back for that.
  4. When I did every single fuse in the glovebox of my BMW, i pulled it, hit the fuse lightly with an emery board, quick swipe of a greased up Q-tip and replaced it. Haven't been that ambitious with the Edge, but when I did my plugs, every harness that came apart had it's holes filled with di-electric then wiped clean. Oh...and got my mud guards today. Possible installation tomorrow.
  5. Dropped the Edge off last night at the dealer. Was just going to do a R&R on the TSS and OSS, maybe even the TR, but decided to do the diagnostic route first instead. Came back with nothing. No codes and it shifted fine for the tech. They didn't do the harness testing with the multi-meter. If I feel ambitious, I might tackle that later. For now, it's "Go Until You Blow".
  6. Section 301-01-216 mentions taking care with removing the TR as to not screw up with the pawl, cuz if you do, it's a R&R on the whole transaxle.
  7. What about the parking purl? Have a fair amount of rollback when parked on an incline?
  8. I remember someone talking about the TR sensor and I found this: http://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14134 Is it the same tranny and something to think about replacing?
  9. I thought there was a transaxle section, but I must of not scrolled down enough or something. I had already Googled TSS and OSS, and all signs were pointing to the replacement, but I guess I wanted a second (third, fourth, fifth...) opinion. I was hoping to put in a tow hitch, but I really don't need that till next year. If the mods want to move this, that's fine. I would like to think that the tech gives the VB a once over while it's out, but it may not hurt to ask. Fluid was cleaned and flushed.
  10. Not my idea of fun. Actually it is, but I'm always scared of the learning curve, so I stopped by the dealership to see what they would charge. $650 out the door. Probably schedule them for next week. Is there anything else worth replacing as long as everything is opened up?
  11. 136k, 2WD, recent plugs and 'flush and flash'. Always had issue with reverse. There is a 2-3 second delay going from D to R. Other times there may be more of a thump going into reverse. Used to have more of an issue with 3rd -> 4th slipping, but after flush and flash, it's a rare, rare occurrence. Most recent issue was in forward gears: stopped at a store to ask when they closed. Putting it back into D, engine spun up with no engagement, then a loud clunk. Moved a bit and it was continuing to do the same. I shifted back into Neutral after the clunk and then back into Drive with the same event. Finally turned the car off for about 5 seconds and restarted. Shifted with no issue (other than Reverse lag as normal when I got home less than a mile away). MAIN issue is that the wife was with me when this happened (which might of caused a bit of panic shifting on my part). I can roll with certain hiccups that modern cars may have, but I wasn't looking forward to a third degree of why the car was acting up. Luckily, she hasn't said anything more about it, but I'm trying to get all the info I can in case it happens again. I've read through Zazzy's replacement of the TSS & OSS sensors and the next time I'm in that part of town, I'll see what a quote is to replace them (might as well throw a TR sensor in there as well..). Also remember a thread about some internal mechanical solenoids that have me a little nervous, but I forget where that one was listed. I think I posted in the thread, so it might be somewhat easy to find (found it - it dealt with a 2008 AWD. Not sure if it relates). Never got any codes from the local shop to the dealership.
  12. I should of been more clear that it was more of a metallic squeak than anything else. Perused the YouTube vids and came away with oiling the pivot point and spring on the arm of the wiper. Did run a bit of oil down the shaft of the wiper (under the main nut), but I think it was more a case of a rusty hinge than anything else. Have some more rain coming this week, so I should be able to really test them.
  13. Running the front wipers sometimes creates a squeaking sound. It's not the blades since I happens with two different styles. Anyone else have this issue? Do I need to remove the intake screen where the arms come out and lube something?

    I call BS

For $8k worth of round metal, I'd get a little glaucoma....
  15. Another option is to get secondary pieces sent to your AZ guy. He wraps them and sends them to you. Install and sell original equipment on EBay..... Or something like that.
  16. From the article, there are two ways to stop hyperflashing: swap out the directional flasher modular with an electric version (rather than heating up and cooling wires to make and break a circuit, the electric module just sends a timed pulse to the turn signal bulb). The Ford Edge doesn't use such a device AFAIK. The other is using resistors to fool the computer into thinking that the bulb is taking the correct amount of juice. I exposed the wires and wrapped the resistor wire around the correct ones to add resistance. Since I'm not good at soldering, I had a professional do it. They also covered the connections with latex and mounted the resistors to the body with screws. The only issue I might have is if one of the LED bulbs burns out/malfunctions at which point I'm pretty sure I won't be able to replace it with an incandescent bulb. Did change the oil the other day. Buggered up the 15mm bolt head, so I had to run to AutoZone to get a 13mm version with magnetic tip! Used Mobile 1 (WallyWorld Big Jug) and some sort of Fram filter.....it was silverish with a black tip....
  17. I was thinking of adding a hitch to my '07. Checked with U-Haul and they wanted $400 out the door. Not the same as a foot activation, but I'm not in a rush to get it done either.
  18. Had my resistors soldered in by my shop because I couldn't get the flux to flow. No more hyperflashing! Also swapped out a good amount of power steering fluid. Maybe not as much as mac does, but it's a start. Next up is an oil change and hopefully I'll do that myself. I always have a bugger of a time placing the pan in the correct spot to catch the oil.
  19. Used Liquid Nails to secure the vinyl to the plywood. Found a thicker-than-needed piece for the main board. Washed it several times with alcohol and vinegar to try and cut some of the chemical smell, but some of it may be the Liquid Nails curing. Found a new carpet remnant for $10, so that is adding a little bit to the stink. Once the rain threat moves off, I might do the maiden voyage with all of them to a park. As an added bonus, here is a pic of a sod run. Platform was in place, but was covered with an old shower curtain. I ended up getting 50 pieces that day. (Dog was added after I got home.)
  20. Actually, a fabric barrier that connects to the headrests. Just to keep that stinky breath out of my ear. It's not a full time dog taxi. Just something that I can throw in there for vet/groomer/beach runs.
  21. The deck itself is flat being it's all one board. It does rise up at a bit of angle since the rear seats do not fold completely flat. Just imagine the slope from the top of the folded seat to the rear of your cargo bay. I have to figure out the best way to attach the vinyl to the board. I was thinking something like Liquid Nails with a good bead around the edge and a couple of squiggles down the middle. Do the bottom first, then when I place the top, that's where the overlay will be. It does has to be too pretty since it's going to get covered as it is.
  22. Have 4 dogs ranging from a 40lb Lab mix to a 14yo Min-Pin. Since there is a sizable gap between the front seats and the rear folded ones, I needed something to keep them from ending up on the floorboard. There is also a decent gap between the seats and the doors, that had to be covered, too, since looking out the window is a major activity. I also needed to be able to move it in and out of the rear, so it would have to collapse somehow. I started with a sheet of 19/32 plywood. I had used it for another project, so it was cut down some. I ended up buying another sheet because 19/32 doesn't come in 2'x4' pieces. If I hadn't cut it the first time, I might of been able to just use one sheet. It's a work in progress as you can see. The plan is to cover the plywood with vinyl to protect against spills, then cover the entire area with carpet remnant. The only thing I wish I could fold the whole thing to fit into the rear cargo area, but I don't want to have too many seams in the main platform.
