  1. Okay, but that doesn't make the definitive reason for the tailgate not closing now does it? For crying out loud these are hardly SUV's anyways. They are raised sedans for the most part, so body lean yes, huge amounts of flex (to affect how the rest of the car operates) hardly.
  2. I'm lost in your argument. You never defined performance, and now you are defining it only as something that does more that straight line speed. Straight line speed and being able to put that power down (in a bigger form factor) - see Challenger Hellcat vs GC Trackhawk for comparison. It's still "performance engineering" however way you slice it. And I never said ST was equal to AMG, M, or anything else, I was just giving those as examples of SUV's that were again "performance engineered" whether based off a car platform or not and how good comparatively, is definitely not the point.
  3. Lots of performance engineering in SUVs. GC Track Hawk (and the SRT-8), AMG GLC 63S, QS5, etc. Does "sport" make it any more prestigious? It's still under the Ford name, so ST makes more sense.
  4. That's not what you said though. You said it's due to poor body rigidity (that's a tad bit more bold than a "little flex"). Again, I'm of the opinion that it's the strut mechanism, rather than structural integrity.
  5. I doubt that. It's more than likely the strength of the hydraulic struts and/or actuators.
  6. Honestly, I'm not loving it from a styling perspective. I think the current sport grille looks more upscale and aggressive (I also don't like that the new front just looks like a Focus ST jumbo sized). Also, I think they should have kept the "light bar" but updated it. It's definitely a distinctive feature of the Edge that is now lost. Personally I like horizontal exhaust outlets vs these new squared off vertical ones. The interior is basically the same (I figured they would go to the rotary dial selector). The ONE part of the exterior I do like more than the current model is the new hood, and obviously the fog/lower accent lights. The current triangular ones never "fit" in my eyes,
  7. Nobody is saying it's the best stereo, but this guy was returning his Edge because of it. Besides, what non premium car has a substantially better sound system? My wife has a Signature model Mazda CX-9 and the Edge system is just as good.
  8. It's keyless entry. There's a sensor on the back of the handle that opens the doors. Normal.
  9. Good decision! And as a previous owner of BMW's, I'm sure you know they aren't without their own quality issues as well!
  10. I have a '16 as well (and live in Toronto - so cold as well) and I've never had issues with anything freezing up. The head unit screen can be a little slow when it's that cold, but almost all screens are in those temperatures. The transmission is what it is, and is much livelier in sport mode, but nothing to write home about. If you are having issues with Sync 3 I would bring it to the dealer (maybe they'll even upgrade your software for free). I've never had a single issue with mine freezing up. Again, the doors and pano sunroof just bring it to the dealer to work out. Some have problems, and others have not (myself included, although I don't open and close the sunroof that often). Don't buy a Tiguan (especially the new one - they are absolutely anemic to drive). X1 is small, although the X3 is pretty decent. However, take a look at BMW pricing in Canada, it's outrageous. An X3 loaded up the way most would want, and going to be SEVERAL thousands more than a fully loaded Edge Sport, and nowhere near as fun to drive. Sure you get the brand prestige, but meh. The Santa Fe is probably going to give you a laundry list of things you don't like or are problematic just like the Edge (not saying they are bad or unreliable, just that you can find fault in any car if you really look).
  11. Seriously Scott just return the car already. There's obviously something wrong with your stereo, but you would rather return it than have the dealer fix it.
  12. There's definitely something wrong with your stereo. My wife use to own a 2011 Accord Touring and the Sony stereo in the Edge sounds waaaay better.
  13. No they intentionally do a one foot rolling start. Here is a basic explanation of it. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/videos/a32681/how-tesla-got-to-60-2-28-seconds/
  14. Welcome! I am not fond of the navigation, so I use CarPlay most of the time now. Oh and round abouts are amazing! Keeps the flow of traffic, I wish we had more of them around me (more and more are coming as new developments are built).
  15. Alright I'm done here. I'm not sure what your point was with this topic or the banter, but it seems you already have your answer. Write to Motor Trend and let them know you feel it should have been awarded SUV of the year.
  16. What? I just told you that Car and Driver and Motor trend use a one foot rolling start for their testing. If they didn't it would be a 6 second car. Look it up.
  17. I own and drive a G2 Sport, and to me (stock) it does not feel like a mid-5 sec car. I've owned ones that are or faster, now I'm not saying it's slow though. With regards to Motor Trend and Car and Driver, they use a one foot roll out when doing their quarter mile testing. That's fine if you are using the same publications to make comparisons against other cars, but that 5.7 is actually about a 6 second dead stop run to 60. It's a fast SUV no doubt, it just doesn't feel extremely fast to me at least (tuned and getting into the 4 second range I'm sure would make up for that, but alas I am not tuned lol).
  18. 5.6 stock from Car and Driver is a freak car. Every other publication has it around 6-6.5 sec (which is what it feels like when driving). I know there are tunes, etc but we are talking stock vs stock. The German cars are notorious for underrating hp and performance numbers. Also, it doesn't surprise me that it's not mentioned...it's a 4 year old model that's still waiting on a mid-cycle refresh.
  19. Exactly. When you have CarPlay on (iPhone plugged in) the talk button only activates Siri (through CarPlay). You have to do everything through the touchscreen to use Sync 3.
