  1. Glad I didn't do it, Ford called this morning and said it was my master cylinder. Seems it was leaking into the booster. They said they wanted another $150. Let's just say by the end of the day, I had the GM's card in my hand and the master cylinder taken care of - no charge. Now, to dig deeper into this Ford booster problem......
  2. funny you ask...an ASE buddy of mine and I changed out (at the same time) an oil pump, water pump, cam/crank seals, tranny/oil pan gaskets, timing belt, struts, rotors, etc on my '92 SC400, but after I d/l the Ford service manual, took the battery and tray & intake off and figured how I'm going to snake the old booster out (ABS lines in the way), I said to hell with it. Sucking out fluid, bleeding the brakes, breaking my neck to get under the d/s dash...screw it, I'll let the "pros" handle it. Best believe I pondered the idea of doing it myself.
  3. Took the Edge in because the brakes were stiff and hissing, turns out it was the booster (as all my research had pointed to). Service guy hadn't heard of them going bad on the Edge and was in somewhat disbelief. Had to have one shipped overnight + parts/labor = a whopping $580 . I guess you can't put a price on brakes or safety, but damn...a vehicle this new? BTW, I have downloaded the complete FoMoCo service manual for the Edge and will gladly upload a link for you for a small Paypal donation. ^_^
  4. I own a mobile detailing biz and although it's in FL, it has been in the 20's at night and 30-40's during the day. I still need to make money so I wear a pair of jersey gloves with a pair of latex gloves on top of those. This keeps the suuuuper cold water off of my hands. I ALWAYS use a clean microfiber rag and fresh bucket of spot-free water, NEVER a brush. If you do not have spot-free water, blow it off with a leaf blower and then use a microfiber to remove excess water. This keeps the "spiderweb" scratches at bay. Touchless washes are ok for knocking the surface dirt off, but do not clean well. However, they are better than the scrub brush guys!
  5. Had tires put on about a month ago, the brakes are fine. I'll check into the booster thing. Thx!
  6. The other day, while applying the brakes at 45mph, the pedal felt really stiff and then began to soften up. Since then, while applying the brakes at low speeds (neighborhoods, parking lots), the pedal hisses, much louder than a normal hiss. It stops normal, however, at hwy speed I did a panic brake test and the pedal was very stiff. 40K miles on the Edge - anyone experience this?
  7. Tan Husky liners - front, rear and cargo. Love 'em and will use them in all my vehicles.
  8. nice! I was going to say, before I saw your location, is that it looks like a Florida neighborhood that you're in, lol. I'm in Jax
  9. Thx DW! I have mentioned the Magnaflow exhaust a few time to my wife....she just says "why?" I begin w/ the regular engine blah blah blah and give up. Maybe I'll try your way Kempie!!
  10. lol. We've had the Edge for almost 2 years and love it.
  11. Went to the dealer, got one and I installed it early. It didn't come in a box, sooo...enjoy the blurry pic. The other ride is my 2000 Chevy Express 2500 $$ maker.
  12. It's a crossover...meaning SUV space/look on a car chassis...you'll love it! Welcome
  13. That is definitely unfortunate. I think the consensus around here is that we all love our Edges, even though some have a fault or two, as with all car companies. It sucks that your Edge is sitting and waiting, butI think that you wil really start to enjoy it after this hurdle. Welcome!
  14. I'm sure you'll love it. Ford has really stepped up the quality and fit/finish. Welcome!
  15. While putting it in reverse the other day, I pushed the pedal pretty hard and heard a pretty loud "squeal". I noticed that it would do it no matter what gear, as long as I pushed it to the floor...see att'd video link. Anyone else have this? turn up volume, it's much louder in person http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiSIxQBGzoc
  16. Oil is such an opinionated issue...when I worked for Advance Auto in the late 90's, a test of all conventional oils was performed on a NYC taxi fleet....results? They all performed about the same as far as oil life, protection, etc.. Obviously, synthetics did perform better. As long as the oil you are using has the "starburst" symbol on the front or back, it will perform as expected...Hell, I've put 100K miles on my Express work van using SuperTech (Wally's brand) High Mileage 10w30. I bought the van with 80k miles. Thus far, I've had no issues with shortened life, performance issues or metal flakes on my magnetic drain plug. Of course, Jon Q. Smith will damn me for using the cheap stuff and recommend brand X as THE BEST. However - I do use the Motorcraft blend in the Edge
  17. ...or the harness has been unplugged...located under the cargo area floor, to the rear of the spare tire.
