  1. If heat is the killer of PTU's, then the answer is 100% ester based oil. Redline and Motul both make readily available 75W-140 ester gear oils. I wouldn't be so hung up on brand, both are excellent oils. It can't hurt to upgrade the oil. I put Redline Water Water in new vehicles the day they come home. There is no reason to wait. Redline oil in the engine is unnecessary and expensive overkill. Mobil 1 5W-30 is one of the best oils available and is great for the 10,000 mile OCI's. I wouldn't bother with air filters or downpipe's just get a tune. My tuned 5 Star tuned 2.7 F-150 is amazing. Still searching for a tune for my 2.0 Edge.
  2. Those are Wal-Mart and Amazon 3rd party re-seller ads. They are not Motorcraft ads.
  3. Since Motorcraft doesn't market or advertise their oil, how do you know it doesn't have the same additive?
  4. I agree that article is of no use. The Escape and the Edge have the exact same AWD hardware. Ford calls the system 4WD in the Escape based on some software difference that they give a nebulous explanation of. If there is any actual difference, there might a setting in ForScan to enable it.
  5. Congratulations. You just went to all of this trouble to test the same oil in different bottles. Conoco-Phillips makes both Motorcraft and Kendall motor oils. Honestly, just use Mobil 1. Better oil, available at Wal-Mart for $23/jug, $12/jug rebates twice a year.
  6. It would be nice to know exactly what is different, since the hardware is the same. Ford skates around it, just marketing speak? Software tweak? Something that can be switched on with Forscan?
  7. How would a leaking valve cover gasket or plug well seal get oil into the combustion chamber?
  8. So you missed this in the manual? For best overall vehicle and engine performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended.
  9. That guy has way too much time on his hands. Mobil 1 5W-30 and 0W-40 both rated as INCREDIBLE according to him, they're what I've always used in my vehicles and have $12/jug rebates twice a year, making the effective cost after buying at Wal-Mart $11/jug. It's not worth expending any further mental energy thinking about motor oil.
  10. I posted this on the F-150 forums. I didn't think it was of much interest here, as there seems to be almost no interest in tuning Edge's A few Sport owners, and tunes for the 2.0 barely exist.
  11. A catch can may or may not help with intake valve coking, but it will not jeopardize your warranty. Whether a catch can is useful depends on the amount of crankcase vapor carry through on your particular engine, the design of the catch can and the proper installation of the catch can. Top Tier will do nothing for intake valve coking, as the fuel and therefore the detergents in the fuel, never touch the intake valves on a DI motor. Using 87 vs 93 will do nothing for intake valve coking. Octane level has nothing to do with coking or carbon build up. "Italian Tune-Up" will do nothing for intake valve coking, nor will it be of any other benefit. These aren't carbureted, oil consuming engines from 1960. The owner's manual in Ecoboosts recommends 93 for best performance, if you bothered to read it. The 2.0 drives like a different car on 93.
  12. My headlights don't suck. This is the main reason I got the 302A package.
