    Poor trans shifting theory investigation

My point is for 50K they could have done allot better. I know the interior is dated but I am okay with that (the refresh version hopefully is nicer) but I have a GT500 running 10's so no I didn't buy this for the drag strip but when a 2019 Honda Passport takes me from the light and I have to be at 60+mph to over take it well that sucks. Adding insult we get to the next light and I have my window down and he says "I though those were suppose to be fast" He is 280hp maybe and no where near the torque and here I am in what Ford Performance has blessed to be a performance SUV but because how this thing is tuned (factory) and the trans it is a pig IMO from a dead stop. I don't expect to be able to out run high end suv's but damn a honda passport puts it on me. Limited boost in 1st and 2nd because they are afraid the trans or drive line won't handle it...my suggestion is make it handle it I am willing to pay more for performance my budget was 55K for something new and I didn't want Dodge so it left me with this. The explorer ST would have been a close 2nd but I don't need 7 passenger vehicle but I do like the 10 speed can take abuse I see guys at the drag strip with 10 speed GT mustangs beating the crap of there car and no issues so far but I know ours can't have that 10 speed. Do I hate the car NO.. it rides good, handles very well for being a tank, great sound system, the AC will freeze you in the summer within a few minutes, getting 25.5 avg mpg highway which isn't bad, now it does have more safety crap than I need, I don't need lane assist, I don't need adaptive cruise, or for the car to brake if it doesn't think I am going to maybe when I am older would appreciate all that but that is the way that all cars are just happy I won't have to fix it any of that while I own it

    Poor trans shifting theory investigation

Mine has been in for 2 updates and it is 100% better HOWEVER with that said this Trans is just a flawed design IMO. 2nd and 3rd are so close it is a waste they even shift from 2nd to 3rd and 7th and 8th seem so close in ratio not even sure why FORD stuck in the extra gear. You know they put time and attention in the Shelby GT500 so it would be right because they knew allot of eyes would be on them but I feel this vehicle which is just a Edge Sport with some suspension upgrades, 8 speed and a few minor things they just rushed it out. They had to test this car for at least a year before coming to market I would assume and how did the testers not see these issues and report back to the engineering staff to make changes. Somewhere someone dropped the ball OR (working in manufacturing myself) what I have seen is they invest so much into a product and when they discover there is a flaw as long as it isn't a life or death flaw they will sign off on it and let it go. We have done that over and over again with our products so you know FORD and the others do the same thing and we pay the price. This ST should be somewhat of a beast with the right transmission of course not out running the HEMI's of the world but should run allot better without going to a aftermarket tuner. If LMS or the like can make this car perform better FORD could have also but I fear they don't have faith in their product. (No Boost in 1st and 2nd) Don't get me started... SMH...
  3. So for those that have a tune and I know some of you have now been running a tune for almost a year what is your thoughts. Have you had an negative side effects from it? I called this morning to talk with LMS and the sales guys said the tune does make the transmission shift harder so wondering how much harder? I have the latest TSB done for the Transmission and right now it shifts the way it should have from day one so I don't need a tune for that although it comes with it I just want some more get up and go from a dig. So wanted to see who all has tuned, who tuned it, and what your thoughts are now that you have it done. Thank you all in advance.

For Those that have Tuned The Edge ST

Thank you for the update Jamie. I go back and forth if I should tune it or even been thinking about the explorer ST but it isn't perfect either. For the price of these vehicles you would think they would be more dialed in. Or better yet if Ford Performance would have truly worked on the tune that would have been a plus also.

No Ford Performance Parts for ST ?

I bought a Fiesta SE to drive in the winter so the Edge can sit in a garage and now after owning the Fiesta for 3 months I love this little car so next year going to find a used 2019 Fiesta ST as my daily. Tons of mods for that car LOL....and I am sure a slightly modded ST is allot of fun The Edge ST is great for hauling the family around but I wouldn't call it fun. Maybe a tune for change my mind.

Talked to Josh at afepower.com and got some good news.

    Poor trans shifting theory investigation

So this weekend put about 150 miles on the Edge after the dealer did the reflash. It now shifts the way it should have from day one, it feels like it is going into each gear and it holds for a few seconds instead of just wanted to get to the top gear. After about 80 miles I turned the Sprint Booster back on and that of course helps also, Throttle response is instant just like a tune except this doesn't give any more HP just opens the TB fully and immediately.

    Poor trans shifting theory investigation

Took mine in yesterday for first old change and to get new flash. Only got to drive it about 8 miles to home but the shifts in both D and S seem better. I felt like it held the gears a little instead of wanting to race up to the next gear. Also the throttle response seems better not as good as Sprint Booster Box which I turned off till I get a good feel for the change but this weekend will turn it back on to get the quick pedal response back.

19EdgeSTeve you will be a could person to tell us the difference since you know how it is tuned and how it is right now stock. Of course the LMS would have to be better in the end but can't wait to hear what you think of the tune from Ford to see if it is better not just with the trans issue but better performance. I tuned my Shelby once my warranty was over and never had an issue but this thing...sadly I don't trust it yet..and my dealer sucks if a headlight stops working he would blame it on the tune..LOL

Let us know how it does in the snow, living in Virginia we get our share of snow but working for a school system we are closed if they even smell snow coming LOL. So doubt I take mine out in that mess but still good to know.

First off I can't wait to get this flash, I go in toward the end of Nov for an oil change and will get this than. Thank you Jamie1073 for this info. Second thing Jamie1073 you say you will need tires in 20K miles.. sounds like you drive it like you stole it...I LIKE IT....

    TSB Update for transmission

So we are now getting to the halfway point in Oct 2019 has there been any real updates for the transmission and all the shifting issues that so many are having. Clunking in and out of gear, slow shifts, shifting out of gear, etc. etc. Between here and the two biggest Facebook Groups for the EDGE ST these issues are so common and either here or on FB I read that Ford Engineers are aware of the problems and working on it but it seems that was well over a month or 2 ago? So does anyone know if they have a fix and they are keeping it secret? LOL

    Borla Exhaust Video's Edge ST

Well the merging of the 3 files has not worked so I am inserting the links to the three video's I made. No fancy editing software just a go-pro and the raw footage. Thoughts on the Borla Exhaust: It has a unique sound to it that doesn't sound like a V8 of course but when you stand on the loud pedal you now can hear it. I have always felt that it is hard getting a great exhaust note from a V6 let alone a twin turbo V6. At highway speeds and no radio windows up you can hear a slight growl. If your putting a load on the vehicle or going up a incline you will hear it more. There is no drone but their is exhaust sound. There is a difference between drone and exhaust and each of us have our own definition. For me if a car is making noise no matter what speed or what gear than that is drone. When you doing 65-80 mph just a slight sound inside the car, if your on the gas than you will hear it. Anyhow here is 3 different sound clips that might help you in your decision.

    Borla Exhaust Video's Edge ST

Get tips from like advance auto, pep boys, etc. and put them on and see the difference, than once I proved my theory that the exhaust being under the car was causing the noise I went to the shop that installed and had them weld the extensions on.

    Borla Exhaust Video's Edge ST

Yes bring the tips out through the hole, flush will take almost all the sound away in fact it was to quite so I moved them back a little to have some growl

    MRT optional resonator delete

Guys, Called MRT to ask them for a video outside their test car instead of just the one they have on youtube with the camera inside the car. Gave them my name and number and supposedly the engineer that is in that video is going to call me back. (we will see) but one thing of interest is I asked if they had a resonator delete pipe and the person that I was on the phone said they could do that for sure. They don't have it listed as a part number but she said they could do that. It would be the T304 stainless they use for there other exhausts and would be flanged at both ends to replace our factory resonator. The cost would be approx $ 200.00. Guessing a muffler shop would do it for half but my local muffler shops are like Midas muffler and sure they don''t have T304 pipe. I wonder how it would sound with their axle backs and the resonator removed? The cost would be for both at $ 800.00 and if they call me back going to see about a discount for a group buy or maybe some discount code for members here. I found in life it doesn't hurt to ask all they can tell me is go pack sand..LOL I will post anything get back from them on this thread. Bill

Sprint Booster/Pedal Commander worth it or waste of time

Should work on your titanium I am sure the wiring harness on your accelerator pedal is the same. Also looked at your Sig your Buick GN was no joke and how do you not love a SS.. I salute you.

Mechanical clunk when shifting to/from park/reverse

I wonder when Ford is going to release another TSB to fix this issue and better shifting issue or have they just given up. I would think that is a Project Manager would go to the trans team that did the program and said okay fix it those guys could write the code and flash their test mule and see what it does. They could do that a couple times a week and test it but since they have known about it for months have they just given up and hope all is well I wonder about the 2020 Edge ST did they fix that programming and just not saying anything because everytime a dealer does a Flash they charge back Ford so they are keep this a secret? I which we had a email address to a live person that would give us an update. I have only had the clunk a few times since purchasing the car but the trans shifting still needs some work IMO. If aftermarket tuners can make a difference can't Ford? I mean someone on the team that is working on the GT500 or the Ford GT they must know what they are doing and I know a whole different animal and trans but someone there has to know how to fix it right ?

Sprint Booster/Pedal Commander worth it or waste of time

So an update on the product that is now over a month old.......STILL LOVE IT... turned it off the other day and after 2 minutes of driving turned it right back on. Night and day difference in throttle response. Basically when you go from Drive to Sport mode you feel that difference in throttle response now double that again with this box

    Poor trans shifting theory investigation

Is there any place on Ford's website to check to see when they have the trans update or better yet a link to send complaints to ford about these type of issues, I realize allot of these issues will be fixed in 2023 but until than they need to do something. I guess there to proud to call LMS or the like to ask them what they have done to make things better with the tune LOL
  21. This weekend bought a 1 owner garage kept Fiesta with 50K miles, 5 Speed, Moon roof, for 5K. Now it has no power but getting 40+ avg on the highway. I know it is crazy but want to keep the miles down on the ST and spare it the winter abuse. Sadly I like the ST and needed something bigger than my escape but I don't love the performance of it. Ford could have done so much more to it mainly more HP or give us boost in the lower gears and a transmission that shifted right. If the day comes and they redo it from the ground up like the explorer hopefully it becomes a 0-60 under 5 seconds I will be trading up.
  22. !! Warning Long Post !! LOL Well installed my sprint box Saturday and have put about 100 miles on the car so far. And I can tell you a huge difference with throttle response. YouTube sprint booster v3 for those that don’t know what they do you will find a ton of videos on them. They have a three-year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee so I figure I got nothing to lose and every video I watched was always positive so I decided to get one myself. You have sport mode with nine settings you have race mode with nine settings I default it to sport mode setting 6 and have race mode set to setting 9. So here is my 2 cents on it. Normal drive mode on the ST with the booster on it feels like you’re in sport mode accelerator is very snappy if you just touch it a little bit you move and there is no delay on the accelerator pedal, before it seem like I could push the pedal down maybe an inch or 2 inches before I would get a response now it is instant and when I Stand on the go pedal no delay instant response, when I put it in sport mode and the booster on setting six it feels like a completely different animal and it’s not something that you think you feel the difference you definitely feel the difference the throttle response is the way it should’ve been from the factory. I also tested it in setting 9 and felt it was to sensitive I mean you just touch the pedal and it is snapping you back in the seat and couldn't feather by driving enough to make it smooth so I found 6 to be perfect for me. Now this isn’t a tune replacement you don’t get more horsepower with this what you get is a couple things; throttle response that is instant and also the throttle body opens up 100%. Where in factory mode even if you floored it the computer decides how much the throttle body opens and it will eventually open 100%. I can’t speak for the edge ST but the tuner that tuned my Shelby says a lot of cars he has tuned when they stand on it the computer opens 80% and as long as you keep your foot in it and then computer recognizes that and gives you a little bit more and as long as you still have it floored it opens more every few milliseconds or seconds. With the SPRINT booster if you floor it the device sends a signal to the throttle body to open it 100% immediately. Maybe the manufacture doesn’t want you to have 100% right away to save on powertrain issues that they would have to warranty the tuner doesn’t quite know why that is but that is his best guess and this device bypasses all that, you punch it you’re getting 100%. I am super happy with this device and I realize a tune would also do this and give more power and torque however I have extended powertrain warranty and with my dealer from past experience if I had an issue and they read the code and see that I’ve changed the tune he would use that as an excuse not to Warranty. And since I don’t have faith in this new transmission the last thing I would want is to be replacing it and getting a bill for three or $4000 that I would have to pay out-of-pocket, and I know the second part to the statement they have to prove the tune broke the transmission but the flipside is they can put it back on you and say "prove that it didn’t" and I don’t know how you would go about that, you can get a lawyer and go through all that but at the end of the day it’ll be painful and stressful so as much as I would love to have a tune right now until I know the transmission is more bullet proof I have to hold off, but this device truly installed in about three minutes so if it has to go back to the dealer under warranty three minutes later you unplug it. I got mine from https://www.pandamotorworks.com/ They were the cheapest around and gave me a great price on it. Also the same place I bought my borla exhaust from because they were cheaper than anyone else I could fine. So if you’re like me and feel the car is not responsive enough I suggest giving this a try you have 30 days to send it back but I think after five minute drive in the car you’ll never do that. Nobody on here knows me but believe me I I know all about performance and speed I have modified the crap out of most of my toys http://www.flairphoto2.com and would NEVER stated the above facts if it wasn't true...If I thought it sucked I would tell you. Anyhow just wanted to give you my report on this cool little device.

    Sprint Booster V3 installed - 2 Thumbs Up !!

Guessing it didn't come that way either so you couldn't have WOT immediately for emissions, or to keep someone from having full power immediately, but i know when you speed 40K on a performance vehicle you should be able to use it all. Same with our oem tune they limit boost in 1st and 2nd which is why these ST's aren't quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile. 3rd party tune fixes it so you know Ford engineers could have also but maybe they don't have faith in their parts they spec? Shame on them if that is the reason. Also it really is that much better

    Sprint Booster V3 installed - 2 Thumbs Up !!

Easy install plug and play and you can disconnect the cable that runs to the control box if you don't want it mounted. I mounted mine beside steering wheel. Total install time 10 minutes. Throttle response is dead on at setting 5, turn it up to setting 9 and if you sneeze your taking off like rocket lol Green is sport mood, push button again and it is race mode which is to sensitive for the street but i have used it at a light when a old durango was beside me trying to jump in front of me after the light turned green. Still not as good as a 93 octane tune fro\m LMS but will hold me over for a while.
