  1. I had to remove the panel below the steering wheel (the one your knees would hit in an accident) when I installed a brake controller for my trailer. There are 2 or 3 hex head screws at the bottom of the piece that you need to remove. Then you have to pull the piece at the top. Pull directly out form the dashboard. If you were sitting in the driver's seat, you'd be pulling towards you. There are 2 clips, 1 on each side of the wheel. The clips are prety robust. They aren't like the fragile ones that are used to hold other pieces of interior trim.
  2. Thanks for the info. I had tried Tire Rack and didn't really find anything that I liked. I'll take a look at the Discount Tire link too. The hardest part isn't going to be finding the wheels. It's going to be convincing my wife that it's worth spending the money to replace the OEM ones.
  3. I've got an Edge Limited that came with the 20" chome clad wheels. I personally think that 20" is just about perfect for his car, but I'm not a huge fan of the look of the chrome clad wheels. We bought the car new as a 2008 leftover and got a great deal, so I just took the wheels that came with the vehicle. I like the look of the Sport wheels, but I thought they were too big when I saw them on an Edge in person. I've just started looking, and to be honest, I'm kinda at a loss where to start looking. There seems to be so many manufacturers out there. I've never bought aftermarket wheels for any of my other cars. I've only ever picked up OEM wheels on Ebay to use as a spare set for snow tires. Has anyone come across something that looks like the Sport wheels? I've included a picture below. Can someone recommend a decent manufacturer, or ones to stay away from? I don't want to buy wheels that will limit my load carrying ability either as I tow a trailer with the Edge. Thanks, Rich
  4. I had no idea that the Edge had an electronically controlled suspension. According to the link below, using a their tuner will result in: Improved looks with aggressive stance Excellent ride quality Flatter cornering and less brake nose dive Xcalibrator from Steeda Nice work reading your own website, Steeda.
  5. It's possible that it's defective, although "dim" is a relavite term. What your wife considers dim might be bright enough for others. I suggest that you go to a showroom and check out what the lights look like on a new Edge for comparison.
  6. bbf pretty much nailed it right on with his post. One thing he did leave out was the steering response. Larger wheels typically have a tire with a lower profile (shorter sidewall) to keep the same overall diameter of the wheel/tire combo, so you generally get a slightly better response to steering inputs. Does this matter in a vehicle like the Edge?....probably not. The tradeoff is a slightly harsher ride over pavement imperfections. My wife and I have the 20" wheels on our Edge and we like the ride. We never did drive an Edge with 18s, so I have no comparison. I think the 20's fit the Edge much better as well. They don't seem rediculously large on the Edge. We did test drive a Toyota Venza when we were shopping for the Edge. The Venza had 20's and the ride was too harsh for us. The Edge seemed to do a much better job absorbing bumps. I'm not saying it was the 20's on the Venza that made it harsh. I just offer that as a comparison point. I'd suggest testing both the 18 and 20" wheels back to back onthe same roads to see if you can tell in difference in the ride characteristics, and if you can, is it enough to make you change your mind. Take a look on TireRack.com for tire prices in the 18 and 20" size as well. I was surprised to see that the OEM 20" tires weren't all that expensive. Good luck with your descision. Let us know what you decide.
  7. Congrats on the new Egde. My Wife and I bought a Tri Coat white Limited earlier this year and we love it. It will be interesting to see what the Edge looks like when it's lowered that much.
  8. I don't think the original poster is talking about the Sport Model (with the 22" wheels and the body kit). He is referring to the "standard" Edge with the 20" wheels and "sport tuned suspension." It's a package that costs ~$850 and gives you the 20" chrome clad wheels and a "sport suspension." Just what is in the sport suspension package is the question. We have it on our Edge, and it certainly doesn't feel "sporty" but I've never driven a non-sport suspension package Edge for comparison.
  9. Our 2008 Limited has the "sport suspension" It came with the 20" wheel and tire package. I didn't test drive an Edge without the sport suspension, so I can't comment on the difference. If I didn't read it on the window sticker, I never would have known there was a sport suspension. Part of the reason we liked the Edge was it's smooth ride on the highway.
  10. I'd try replacing the bulbs. As bbf said, the bulbs are dual filament and it's possible that the tail light filament is burned out, but the brighter brake light filament is still in tact. i haven't had to replace the tail lights in this car yet, so I can't say how hard it is to get at the bulbs, but usually tail lights aren't too bad. It's a little odd that both lights are out, but if I remember correctly, the fuse handles the power to the entire bulb, so a blown fuse would mean no tail light or brake lights. While you could take it to the dealer if it's under waranty, I usually find that a little time spent doig somethign relatively simple like this is almost always better than spending the time to take the car tot he dealer. However, maybe you could call ahead and set up a time to have them do the work for you while you wait.
  11. Thanks for the link. It looks like it wraps around underneather the spare tire cover and attaches there.
  12. In our Edge the volume does decrease. It's almost like the front speakers sotp playing music and play the warning because you can still hear the music. It's similar to when the Nav gives you voice prompts.
  13. Norm, Nicely done. It's too bad Ford didn't bother to do somethign like this. It's almost like they ran out of money when it came time for the cargo area. It looks like you have a cargo net. Can you provide details of where you got it, part number and cost? Thanks
  14. I think it took me about that much time to install my brake controller and trailer plug, but that's because I didn't know what I was doing. Ther's no way it should have taken a dealership that long to install. With the proper tools and a lift, the hitch should have taken 1-1.5 hours TOPS for a professional to install. At the very least, you have a good case for argument because it doesn't sound like you authorized them to perform 7.5 hours worth of work. They should have called you when they realized it wasn't going to be a 3 hour job to get your permission to keep working. My guess is that you don't have the original estimate in writing. I know I never get it....it's always verbal. That would be helpful in your argument. Be careful how you approach the owner/manager. You'll be much better off if you go in there and calmly talk to them rather than yelling. If the place is run correctly, they should work with you to resolve the problem. You can always escalate from there by asking the owner/manager to provide you with the contact information for the regional service manager. You may need to take this up the chain of command until you get what you're looking for. If they don't help you, make sure you ask them for a customer satisfaction survey. It's typically mailed or emailed to you after you have had service performed. From what I can gather for the few service manager's I've spoken to, the dealerships get dinged if they receive surveys that don't indicate full satisfaction. There's always the possibility of talking with a lawyer. However, the 5 hour discrepancy in their estimate works out to about $350 (assuming $70 an hour of labor). It won't ake long to blow through that with a lawyer. Good luck. Let us know how it works out.
  15. The "dry weight" of the trailer is listed at 3000 lbs, but I don't believe that includes options such as the refrigerator or the A/C. I'm almost positive that I'm over the 3500lb weight limit when I have it loaded for camping. I thought about stopping at a weigh station and finding out how much the trailer and the Edge/trailer combo weighs. For me, ignorance is bliss at this point. I also don't plan on towing the trailer very often, and the terrain isn't very hilly either. I haven't noticed the A/C in the Egde cutting out, but I also haven't towed it in really warm weather yet. I live in Eastern Pennsylvania, and I bought it for tailgating at Penn State football games. I took it to their spring scrimmage at the end of April. I don't have plans to use it until the season starts again in the beginning of September. I'm guessing that the A/C is cutting out to reduce the load on the engine as a type of over-heating prevention. That's just a guess though. You might try looking at some F-150 forums to see if anyone else is reporting the A/C shutting down in warmer temps while towing heavy loads. Unfortunately, the Edge forum isn't the greatest resource for towing since it's not a very common thing with these vehicles. Good luck.
  16. oak, Here is the link to the Curt customer service web page. It has contact info for the various regions. There is one for Ontario at the bottom Curt Customer Service Info
  17. I haven't looked at removal, I just keep the armrest flipped down so the headrest doesn't block my view.
  18. k3msugrad, Have you made any progress on the grille install? If so, can you post some pictures? Thanks
  19. Nicely done. They look great. Did you bake the lights to help open them up? That seemed to help alot with Mazda6 headlights. Thanks for the pics. I agree with you, the LED's are hard to get a good picture of. You can't see the individual lights in the pictures, but knowing what they look like on Audi's, I'm sure they look great in person.
  20. Unsafe? No. If you don't have the towing package, then you'll be exceeding the weight limit that Ford recommends for the vehicle. Personally, if you live in an area where it's relatively flat, then I don't think the lack of a tranny and oil cooler will hurt you, especially if you are using synthetic fluids. I'm wondering how long it will take for the "YOU"LL DESTROY YOUR CAR!!" posts. My personal favorite is "Get a truck"
  21. I can't comment on U Haul directly, but i think $200 is a good price for the hitch and installation. The cheapest I could find my Curt hitch listed for was $145 shipped. I'd be interested to know what brand of hitch they are installing, but if you feel comfortable with that particluar shop, there shouldn't be any reason to not have them do it. The people working there are more important than the name of the shop. There are Class III hitches out there that do not require drilling any holes. They use 2 bolts per side. The Curt does require drilling an additional hole on each side and uses 3 bolts per side.
  22. I had considered running the power wire to a fuse, but everything I read online (and the instructions that came with the controller) said to run the brake power line to a self-resetting circuit breaker. The thought is that if you had a temporary short ciruit (which seems to be somewhat common with the wiring on the trailer itself) the breaker would reset itself once the short had cleared and would give you brakes again. If you used a fuse, it would blow and you would lose brake power until you were able to replace the fuse. I got my breaker on Etrailer.com. I don't remember the cost but i'm pretty sure it was less than $20. As for the neutral, I didn't see a good place to ground the controller under the dash, so since I was running the power wire from under the hood, i decided to run a neutral as well. If you can find a good spot, then there won't be a problem. I did try prying up the trim pieces so that I could run the wiring inside the car. I had planned on running the wiring down the driver's side. As you can tell from my write-up, I abandoned that method and went underneath the car. I got as far as the driver's side front door sill and broke a plastic clip off. That's when I went with the under-car routing. I don't have the patience to remove the trim, and there was quite a bit more to go. I've also never done any car stereo installation before, so maybe someone with more experience with removing trim panels would be able to do it much easier than I could. Thanks for the comment on the write-up. I've learned quite a bit from forums like these and I'm happy to be able to help out when I can. A good tutorial can really be a time and money saver. Good luck on the install.
  23. Ha Ha....me too. Wife gets the new Edge Limited and I get my 03 Mazda 6 and my 01 CBR600F4i. Darkblade....welcome to the forum. Post some pictures of the Sport when you get a chance.
  24. I use an interior detail spray from Meguires. It does' tleave a shiny or slippery residue and it does a nice job of removing light dirt and dust. It can be used on the dash and also on painted interior surfaces.
  25. This is the trailer that I tow with my Edge. I have an idea of what snowmobile trailers look like, and I believe that my trailer has a larger profile. I could be wrong, but I haven't had any problems towing this trailer. I do have a weight distributing hitch, but I don't have anti-sway. There have been a couple of times where I needed to slow down during a strong cross-wind, but nothing too bad.
