  1. The problem is with the dealer not knowing what to fix. So, tell the dealer that you don't think that Ford would design an expensive vehicle like the Edge with a built in problem, do you? Why don't you get some experience by fixing this one. Then you can be a hero and fix all the ones on which you have seen this problem. If they still are reluctant to help, call the Ford 800 line or try a different dealer.
  2. There are several reasons that could cause it to dump fluid--- If it were mine, I'd be heading straight back to a Ford Dealer. Let them deal with it.
  3. Truer words have never been printed! As Teddy Roosevelt would have said,"Bully for you!" I try to never comment on something I dislike if there is a person who has done it and likes it. I will usually only comment on wrong technical advice, and sometimes simply pass that up because there are folks who, no matter how logical you explain it, will never believe it anyway! I spent 30+ years in the automotive business-- mostly engaged in the technical equipment (diagnostic, Alignment, balancing & brake) and have found out that there are some folks who, no matter what you tell them, will never believe you because their daddy did it a certain way for years with success, and that's the way they are gonna do it.
  4. I wasn't going to point this out to you, but you are the one who started the "shit". Of course, I'm the bad guy for making a comment about weather in Chicago--- so, go shovel that white shit so you can go play in the stuff with your Edge---
  5. You do have a real way of interpertating what I write. I'll bet you are a lot of fun to work with! At this point, I'll allow you to roll in the dirt all alone. I find it very difficult to argue with a person of your intelligence!
  6. Typical Chicago attitude---- The further North you go, the worse the cabin fever gets--- Real snow with your vehicle burried in it is good! I think all that road salt is eating away at your brain--- We keep getting transplanted Mid-Westerners here in Texas faster than we can re-habilitate them--- Real carbon fiber is drab and boring. If I wanted a drab & boring POS for an interior I'd have done it in CF--- The beautiful weather here is real. You have fun playing in the snow if you can find your car!
  7. You'll need 3 pieces to do this job--- a left side, right side and a spare tire cover. That all added up to $320.21 at the discounted prices! That's some damn expensive plastic!
  8. The simple fact that the gaudy faux wood dash kit was installed while the sun was shining with the vehicle in my driveway--- I've seen enough snow in my lifetime. I hope that it all stays far North with you. I grew up in NY and then spent time in Kansas City, Milwaukee, and back to NY again --- I finally escaped in '89 and am quite happy not having to deal with that white stuff. I much prefer the weather here in Houston where gaudy is good! :shades:
  9. :stop: Like I said, it isn't for everyone--- least of all, snow-bound folks. :yup: It was a bright sunny day here--- got up to 55 degrees with calm winds! A perfect day for what I did while some of my northern friends were trying to find their vehicles buried under a little snow.
  10. I bought a slightly used 2008 Edge Ltd last September and was a little disappointed with the interior trim. Today, I fixed that problem by installing a Honey Burl Wood Dash Kit. That dressed up the interior more to my liking. $160 cost and 2 hours of work. It might not be good for all, but it sure added a lot of class in my Edge! http://www.edashkit.com/store/c/2027-2007-UP.html
  11. I don't know if the Ford radio will support it, but Sirius offers a short version of their service for $6.99/month. It is ALACART-- you pick the 50 stati0ons that you want. My Edge didn't come with the Sirius built in, so I transferred my old XM to it. Then I read about how you can get a Sirius receiver that will allow ALACART service. I cancelled the XM and activated a new Sirius Stratus 6 ($49) from Ratshak--- Finally, I don't have to pay fro a bunch of crap stations that I have absolutely no interest in-- Getting that Sirius receiver activated--- well, that was a whole new problem-- I t5alked to an Egyptian, A Phillipino, a Central American, and then on the 4th call trying to get someone who would listen to me instead of reading their spiel to me, I got really pissed off and demanded that they transfer me to somone in the US who speaks English----
  12. It's pretty easy to use the relay that comes with the Stebel and the Wolo air horns and simply use the OE wires for closing the relay. That eliminates any voltage drop to the horn and will prevent the OE wires from melting the insulation. These air horns need a 10 amp circuit. Most cars will have no problem without the relay, but, if you are a "belt & suspenders" guy, I'd recommend using it! :happy feet:
  13. A sound that you dislike is a sound that will make someone take notice! The Stebel and The Wolo compact air horns take one bolt to mount and simply switching the wires from the stock horns--- and, a 2.5DB increase is double the noise! They will blow a stock horn away---
  14. If you want something that will blow them out of their stupor, try one of these compact WOLO Air horns. I'v used them on my motorcycles and I guarantee they will command attantion, They are small and can be mounted easily. They are available at Northern Tool and Harbor freight. http://www.wolo-mfg.com/air.htm
  15. If you have a crash where the air bags deploy, it will dial 911--- there would possibly be times where you would be disabled and having it do the automatic call may be the only way to communicate. The vehicle health report will e-mail you when maintainance is due The voice dail works great for me!
  16. We each have our likes and I kinda like the fact that I can have some talk radio stations along with music and comedy-- I didn't buy thr RAP or Hard Rock or the religious stuff--- I really like it and it sounds better than the XM I had!
  17. Unfortunately, my slightly used Edge did not have the satellite radio option built in. I have been an XM radio user for several years and after looking over the availability of having a-la-carte service from Sirius, decided that a change was in order. 50 stations for $6.99--- helluva lot better than buying all the available stations and using only a few! So, I buy the hardware from Ratshack--- $49-- Install it in my '08 edge and now the fun starts. I call the toll free number to activate---and get someone in Egypt. He starts out speaking OK English and when it got down to having him deviate from his standard spiel, he no longer speaks English--- I tell him to get me a supervisor in the US-- he says wait-- and promptly disconnects us. Call number 2 went about the same but this time I got a Phillipino--- I finally had to hang up on her because all she wanted to do was talk about what programs they had and I already knew what I wanted. Third call was answered by a female in Central America and I immediately told her goodbye--please get me anyone in the USA. Finally, she did and a fellow from the Mid-west finally got me up and running. I should have done all of it on line. I had to go on line to pick out my stations for the ALACARTE program anyway and then make a 5th call to get it all running correctly! I don't know how I ever got these things done before I retired and had all day to do them!
  18. I've used these on 4 different vehicles. They are the best and will not fall off like the tape on version. The Edge installation was the tightest of all, but still worked OK.!
  19. While a lot of the bad dealers have been put out of business, there are also a few who have survived the cuts. Several years ago, I had a 2000 Windstar that had to go in for an intake manifold replacement. The proceedure calls for an oil change when the job is done because the manifold is wet and there's a possibility of anti-freeze running into the crankcase. When I got the vehicle back, even tho there was a charge to Ford for oil & a filter, the change was never done! I confronted the service mgr and was promptly told that I was mistaken. My only mistake was to have taken the car to this dealer for service! There are good dealers out there and if you find one, hang in there with him! :hyper:
  20. For some strange reason, all Suzuki Motorcycles and scooters read 10% faster than you actually are going. My wife's Hyundai SanteFe's Speedometer id dead nuts on--- after I went one size larger with the tires!
  21. Only if they don't fix the problem! Take a look at Toyota right now with their "sudden accelleration " problem. They have no idea as to what is causing the problem!
  22. How about the thousands of them that have no problem?
  23. In today's engine manufacturing, the tolerances are so close and consistant that break-in as us old timers knew it is long gone. Just drive the car normally without sustained high speed for the first 500 miles and it will be broken in. If it makes you feel better to baby it and do an early oil change, the have at it. When I used to build an engine back in the late 50's, I would do several hard accelerations to 60, and then let the engine cool a while and do several more. That's all that was necessary to seat the rings. The same holds true for today's engines. Makes no differenceif you use Dino or Synthetic oil.
  24. Yeah, don't trust Corvettes or Cadillacs that come from the factory with full synthetic oil! GM doesn't know what it's doing!
