Sharing what I do. I bought a 2009 Limited AWD (3.5L Engine) in Sept. 2010 with 62,000 miles on it. This year/transmission uses Mercon V and has a drain plug in the transmission. I can do this process without jacking the car up or driving it up on ramps. I simply drain out what I can (~5.5 quarts). I refill through the dipstick. The car now has 160,000 miles on it. The transmission still works great and the fluid looks good each time it is drained. I use Castrol Mercon V and it costs about $34 annually.

2009 Limited AWD in Michigan - 160,000 miles.

Yes, I believe so. I could tell the inside parts were removed and I believe the sensor gauge is part of the entire fuel pump and it all was replaced.

An update to this story. The sending gauge was not the issue. That was replaced and I still have the exact same problem described in the first thread. A bit more detail is now the gauge never registers full. It only goes up to 3/4. The low gas warning goes off with approximately 125 miles left. Oddly, it counts down correctly from 50 (as I described in the thread above). I will drive about 4 or 5 miles and it will say I have 49 miles until empty, etc. Does anyone have a better understanding on how this all works which might point to the problem? I am now thinking it could be the gauge. However, I wonder if things need to be "reset"? Disconnect the batter and reconnect. It almost seems like nothing is broken, but it is just calibrated wrong. Is there any type of activity such as this by turning the key 3 times, etc.? Thoughts much appreciated.

I thought I would post pictures of the rust on the hood of my 2009 Limited AWD Edge. Some background on the car is it lives in Michigan (think salt), is garage kept, waxed twice a year and hand washed fairly regularly. You can't tell from the outside but you can see small paint bubbles (not very noticeable). The internal pictures are much worse then I would have guessed. I think this is a common problem and there must be some manufacturing flaw or some type of constant moisture, battery fumes, etc. hitting this side internally.

I wonder how much it will change your ride? (rougher?) Comments from anyone that has done it? I have a 2009 with the same chrome clad rims. I am not a big fan of them at all, however, I do like the comfortable ride my Edge gets and I get quite a few comments on it. Food for thought...

I’ll try and be brief. I have a 2009 Limited AWD with 150,000 miles on it. It has been a near perfect car. I bought it with 64,000 miles on it. I was rear-ended about 3 weeks ago. $5,000 worth of damage. I was hit square on. It shut off my fuel pump. I was able to switch it back on and drive away. Right after the accident I was driving and the low fuel warning went off. A bit of surprise since I am the only one that drives the car and I keep really good track of things. I chalked it up to the excitement around the accident and filled it up. After it got fixed, the same thing happened. A surprise again in that I thought I had more gas. I looked underneath for a gas leak. Saw nothing. I smell no gas in in my garage. It happened again and this time I know I had just a little less than ½ a tank. The low warning went off and it did not say I had 50 miles to go like it always did before the accident, it said I had about 32 miles left. So I filled it up and it only took 13.5 gallons. It would have normally taken 18 or 19 given what the gauge said. So my thinking is the internal gas guage sending unit in the tank was somehow damaged. Can anyone provide it comments on how that sending unit works and it a huge jolt could damage it? I have filled it up and am tracking it very closely and getting back in touch with my insurance company to see if I can get this covered.

For the record, my 2009 Limited AWD Edge, located in Michigan, has the same rust on the front lip on the driver's side. At this point you have to look for it to notice it, but it will get worse. I am not hugely disappointed because the car has been very good and has 150K miles on it.

Heated seat not working in 2011 Sport...Help Please
evh replied to NickSport11's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
NickSport11, I have an 09 with the same issue (i.e. driver's side heated seat not working. I was going to replace the element as you did. You mentioned yours was "weak" before you changed it. Mine simply does not work and when I press the button to turn it on, the red LED light immediately goes out (it is supposed to stay on). Is your LED on or off. What was it before you replaced the element? -
EdgeDog, I have a 09 as well that could use some rear shocks. Can you post some pictures of what you did? What shocks did you buy?

Welcome! I think you will be quite happy with your purchase.

Tie rod would be my guess. I have a 2009 Limited AWD. I was driving down the highway about 70 a few weeks ago and got a shudder all of a sudden. Thought I had a flat and pulled over. Everything was fine. About 10 miles from home and the shudder got worse. It went away when braking or giving gas or turning in some instances. When coasting it was bad. It got real bad in a single day to the point I thought the tire was coming off. I could feel it in the steering wheel, noises, etc. What the heck was going on! Took it to my mechanic (not dealer). He told me all it was was a tie rod. He said it had a little play and the rubber was dried out. He said it was the worst behavior he has evern seen on one with such little play on it. He replaced it and all is well.

Perfect! Thanks WWWPerfA_ZN0W

I know this post is over a year old, but I am having the same issue with my 09 Edge Limited with 140K miles on it. When I hit 80mph on the highway 3 lights go on (traction, anti, wrench). They typically all stay on until I get off and brake a few times. Then all go off but the wrench, then that goes off a few minutes later. I have pulled over with all 3 lights on and read codes. Nothing. No codes. Questions: 1. Based on other postings, my guess is I have a bad anti-lock brake, speed sensor? 2. If that's it, how do I tell which one it is (no codes?). Is there a different way to read these codes? Finally, I plan to rotate tires soon. I will look for these and see if I can clean them. If anyone can submit a picture of where they are with the tire off, that would be helpful.

When I was replacing the spark plugs in my 09 Edge, the negative terminal broke. I was able to order just the terminal. Understand I didn't need the entire terminal, just the part that you screw down to force the clamp together. I think there is some flaw in the design/battery that really makes the terminals corrode. Mine just broke. Let me know if you need more information.

Seat rattle. Anyone else have this?
evh replied to rwade434's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I have a similar rattle in my 09 Limited. I traced it to the seat mounts under the rear passenger side. I could hit the seat hard with my hand and make it rattle. Would rattle at certain times while driving down the road. Spraying WD-40 on the mounts where they connect at the top and bottom resolves it for about 6 months. Took my quite a while to trace it down. Possibly check your seat mounts on the front seat. Just a thought. -

You ask a good question. I did not do plug wires and to be honest, I can't remember if there were wires or simply coil on plugs. If you can replace them, I think I would. I had some older Taurus/Sable cars with the 200hp Duratec engines and had a number of issues with the wires that made the engine stumble and feel like a transmission issue.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I think you are heading down the right path (transmission, plus, etc.). If the plugs have never been changed on yours, they are about due. I have an 09 Limited and changed the plugs at 95,000 miles. I noted in my log that the spec for the gap on the new Motorcraft plugs was to be set to to .05. I measured the old ones and they were at .062 - .068. Even if that doesn't solve the issue, I would say you are about due. Also, you might want to drain and fill the transmission. Easy to do. My 09 has a drain plug. I do it every year. You get about 5 3/4 quarts out. Mine calls for Mercon V, my guess is yours is the same. I realize we could have an entire debate on flushing vs draining vs other. My point is these two items I suggest are normal maintenance and might help resolve the issue. If neither does, they both still needed to be done and you could now check them off the list. You might even want to do the transmission twice in a period of 2 weeks. All you need is 6 quarts of Mercon V (I use Castrol - A local shop has it on sale for $4 on occasion), a skinny funnel and pan. Good luck!

Mine was doing that and the pads were gone. It was louder when I turned. Replaced pads and rotors and I am all set. When was the last time you checked your brakes?

I was waxing my 09 Limited with 133,000 miles on it and noticed some bubbles along the front of the hood similar to what you described. I also see some rust (bulging) inside the doors at the bottom. I live in Michigan. I think it is the nature of the beast. Your car has likely been on the road 7+ years. Ford's problem? I'm not sure. My car has really had no problems since I have owned it. I am really quite impressed with the quality of this one. Living in Michigan, I expect this at some point.

xK317Hx, Was it easy to install the new one? Were the steps: - Remove leather cover - Unplug/Remove pad - Install (glue?) new one in place - Plug in - Replace leather cover Does that sound right?
-
My driver's side heat seater stopped working on my 2009 Limited. Anyone replace theirs yet? Do I just remove the leather cover and I can then take off the pad? Is the seat part separate from the back part? Can someone point me to a place on line where I could order the part vs going to the dealer. I googled it and am having trouble finding it. Any advice is welcome.

I bought a 2009 Limited in 2010. It had 67K miles on it (company car). The previous owner had the battery replaced because of the corrosion (likely could have cleaned it). I also removed the new battery and put the disk thingies under the terminal and applied the goop to them, and I still have issues. Something about the design/placement, etc, makes these things corrode (and I take very good care of my car). It was so bad that when I replaced the spark plugs last summer (115K miles on them), one of the battery terminal connectors broke putting the batter back in due to the excessive corrosion. I had to order a part from Ford to fix it (note, I used a hose clamp to hold the terminal connector in place until the part came in - a real hack - but it worked!)

It's time for new tires again. The originals and my first replacements were the Michelin's. My tire place sell these Mastercraft (Cooper) brand and speaks highly of them. Anyone have experience with them?
