  1. To support what everyone else is sharing, I paid $50 a dent for 5 dents in a Ford Fusion. You could not tell where any of them were when he was done. He came to my parking lot and did it while I was at work. He was also contracted by a very large Ford dealer in my area to do all of their cars that needed it.
  2. Nice. Ever since they came out, I had always wanted one. I actually never drove or road in one, I just liked the looks. I am not much of a car guy since I have gotten my Edge. I like the sitting up higher and the flexibility it has in hauling items. I'm not sure I will ever buy a car again. Thanks.
  3. Years ago, I had always wanted a Lincoln LS. akirby, post a pic of yours!
  4. I am not a huge "red" color fan, but I do like the looks of this. Maybe an option for me in the future..... I typically buy used. Any idea what year this color came out?
  5. Southwest Michigan - Kalamazoo area.
  6. I'll take "Bad Battery" for $100 Alex.....
  7. Yes, it is a bit disappointing to have that rust. I am the guy that keeps it in the garage and hand washes and waxes it! So to keep this thread true to the "What have you done to your Edge today": - Hand washed - Hand waxed - Put chrome polish on the 100% chrome rims It is sunny and relatively warm in Michigan (50 degrees). It was 40 degrees when I started. Still warm. Here is a tip. On colder days like today, I fill my bucket inside with warm water from inside. Keeps the hands from freezing. I was actually able to wash it today without a coat on. Nice!!! She looks good!
  8. Yes, Hermans, I follow MAC religiously and watch most all of his videos. I have learned a great deal from him. That is what actually gave me the idea for the "Frugal Maintainer". Perhaps a bit of a contrast to MAC (contrast is likely the wrong word). But you get the idea. How can we keep our Edge's in good shape without braking the bank. Understanding that we all might take different approaches and that is ok, but sharing what we do so others can learn/benefit. I have visited BobIsTheOilGuy. Learned a great deal about the oil filters and oil, etc. I was disappointed when his site first came up and Fram did so poorly. Back in the 70s/80s Fram was all I used (thanks Dad...). But Dad also wanted us kids to use Shell Fire and Ice oil (do they even make that any more???). That was the good oil in his day. Enigma, I had a 95 and 01 Taurus and an 03 Sable. I am very familiar with the rust you likely had on yours. I never got mine fixed. Isn't that what touch up paint is for??? I have attached to this post pictures of the rust on my Edge. Three spots - above each rear tire and under the hood (which is real bad, but you can't tell from the outside). Above the wheels would likely require replacement of that panel and it runs above the doors all the way to the front of the car. Likely not cheap. The under the hood repair would require a new hood. I'm guessing my Edge is worth ~7,000 with 200,000 miles and (Limited/AWD). Not worth it to me to get fixed (at least not now). I can't get the last picture to post right-side-up, however, you can see the large chip of paint that I used touch-up paint on. Funny, it looks much worse in the picture then it does in real life.
  9. When I change oil it is always Motorcraft 5W-20 Semi-Synthetic and Motorcraft filters from Wally World (about $23ish total out the door). I agree, I am not a fan of the Fram oil filters based on all I have read. I did quite a bit of reading on their air filters and compared them to others I have used in the past Wix/STP/Purolater/etc. I am able to get the Fram's for roughly $8 out the door. I am happy enough with their quality on these. (Note, I have thought about starting a thread in our forum titled the "Frugal Maintainer" where ideas are shared on maintaining our Edge's with an eye toward cost. No better feeling then maintaining/fixing your ride yourself and saving some $$$ in the processing. More on that later). I will post some pictures of the rust I have on my 09. It has had very good care (garage/hand washes/wax, etc.). However, I am in the rust belt (lower southwest Michigan), and it is getting pretty bad on my Edge. I have surface rust over both rear tires and complete rust through under the hood. With 200,000 miles on it and it being 8 years old, I don't think it is worth the $$$ to get it all fixed (although I do really like the car).
  10. - Put touch-up paint on a silver dollar size patch of rust just over the rear passenger tire. - Replaced the air filter with a Fram. - Cleaned out the inside and scrubbed all the Michigan salt crud off the floor mats. - Ran it through the car wash and filled it up. Both rear fenders are rusting quickly right above the tires, not good...

    Hi There

Welcome! Congrats on the new purchase.
  12. Simply sharing two good deals I think I got for my 2009 Edge with 190,000+ miles on it. #1 I wanted a cargo mat because I have been treating it more like a truck the last few years. I used to store a tarp in it and take it out each time I was hauling dirty greasy things. I did some research and the local Pep Boys auto parts store in my area (Michigan) was selling the WeatherTech universal fit mat for $49.99 with a 30% off coupon so $34.99 (Amazon currently has it for $53.24). I took my time and trimmed it up and it has a nice fit and will prevent the gases and greases from getting to the fabric. #2 Mercon V transmission fluid. We all practice different variations for maintaining our Edges. I have owned mine since 2010 and each year I simply drain the transmission fluid using the plug and fill it back up. It is actually easier for me to do then an oil change (thank you Ford for putting a drain plug on my year Edge’s transmission and locating right at the front of the engine - no ramps). It takes 5.5 quarts when I do this. Autozone currently has Castrol Mercon V (which mine calls for, not LV) on sale for a $1 off. It’s $5.19 a quart vs $6.19. The total for 6 quarts was $33.01 out the door with tax. Note, the power steering fluid calls for Mercon V as well so I turkey baster it dry and refill with the remaining ½ quart. Again, simply sharing to possibly help others if they are in the market for either of these items.
  13. Has anyone tried a CD mount holder? I just heard about them and that would resolve the vent coverage issue. I don't use the CD player so that is a non issue. I have a 09 with the navigation system, so the CD is right near the top of the dash so I think it would put the cell phone in a good location. https://www.amazon.com/Update-Version-Installation-Smartphone-Samsung/dp/B00VEAF6SG/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
  14. Some of you made a good point about the foil and hiding the spare key. My 2009 allows me to have the key in the car with no foil. It looks like the newer models (not sure what year it started), won't allow the door to lock with the key in the car. My guess is it is whatever year the push button starter came out.
  15. Burrcold, I use mine all the time in my 2009. I am a guy (no purse). I hate to load up my pockets with junk. Many times (especially wearing shorts), I just throw my keys on the console and use the keypad to reenter. Here is a trick we can all use. Because we have a keypad, hide your second key somewhere inside the car. If you lose your keys (think on vacation, many states away from where you live), simply use the keypad to get in and grab your spare key and go!
  16. Yes, it looks like the ring is broke. Note, my experience is you can't just buy the ring. It is part of a much larger assembly. I have also had tie rod and brake issues (wobble, etc.). I have often wondered if driving with wobble/pulsing can damage the ring.
  17. I have the same vehicle (year, etc.) you have. I would not exclude the tone ring. I have replaced two rings and one sensor (all different wheels). Both of my rings had cracks. When you would turn or go fast (80+), the crack would separate and lights go on. Slow down and drive a bit, lights go off. Note, my first tone ring was suspected to be a sensor like yours. They replaced that and I still had the exact same problem. They replaced the ring and noticed it had a hairline crack that would flex going fast. My second tone ring would activate all the same warning lights when braking under certain condition. Note, yours is going off when brake and turning (more stress on it). Good luck with your repair!
  18. Check the actual date of manufacture and when it was put into service (on the driver's door). You may find it has actually been on the road for 1.5 years depending on when it was manufactured. Might help explain all the miles a little better. My 2009 I believe started it's life in November 2008.
  19. Thanks enigma, Helps confirm my decision. So far rides have been smooth and quiet. I am keeping an eye on mileage as well. I report back with what I find.
  20. Never mind Mac. I just pulled the trigger and got the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia 18" tires. I think I got a good deal, $620 out the door. They are so much quieter then the Toyo's I had. To be fair, the Toyo's were much quieter when first installed. Just real noisy now after 57,000 miles.
  21. Mac, I am thinking about getting the same tires (Bridgestone Dueler 422's) for my 2009 AWD 18" Edge. Any comments on how you like them? Quiet? Traction? Wear?
  22. Raises and lowers the glove box slowly and the switch controls a light for it? Just a guess.
