  1. Thanks very much jmr061 and akirby. Now I have what is needed to have them do something when I take it in for the next service.
  2. wow, ford finally recognizes a problem that people are having! does this service bulletin prescribe a remedy or does it simply acknowledge the problem? is there anywhere to see this service bulletin?
  3. what's the difference between this and remote access above in post #8? the latter seems to already be available.
  4. thanks for that info omar302. i will look more closely at this. I rarely use the remote start anyway since the car is in the garage. One thing that confused me when I used it the first few times is that after i get in the car, i put my foot on the brake to press the start button but then the engine shuts off. I have to press the start with no foot on the brake to get the car going. i haven't tried just taking it out of park though. it just doesn't seem very intuitive. i'll have to get used to it.
  5. I was wondering about this feature as well since my seat heating does not go on automatically when i start the car remotely. the user manual states: "In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F (22°C). The heated seats are set to high (if available, and selected to AUTO in the information display). The rear defroster and heated mirrors automatically turn on" What is the definition of "cold weather?" In my case, the temps are only a few degrees above freezing but the seat heating does not go on nor does the steering wheel heat or rear defroster or heated mirrors. I would have thought that 2 degrees C would qualify as "cold weather." I know I can set the preferences to use the last setting but that would mean that i would have to set everything before i shut down the car. Hardly automatic.
  6. I'm fairly certain that is a phone feature, not a sync feature. https://www.cnet.com/news/apples-new-maps-app-will-remember-where-you-parked-your-car/
  7. does the radio info not show on the right side display of your instrument cluster? i see music info while playing off my usb stick there while using google maps on the large center display.
  8. I tried AA very briefly last night after finally having success installing the update. I have a 128GB USB stuck almost filled with FLAC files. I was able to launch Google maps, switch to sync, play music, and return to maps while the music kept playing and I could hear the navigation instructions over the music. I need to test this out driving but I'm guessing that you should be able to do both at the same time.
  9. arghhh, i'm having troubles. i downloaded the non-nav file from google drive link that was posted upthread. last week i tried using a macbook to unzip the files onto a memory stick. either the memory stick was no good or the mac didn't work. my attempted updates went 45 minutes without completing. so now i've unpacked my windows box and used a good usb stick. update completed message appeared on the car after almost 20 minutes and then 15 minutes for part two. thought i was good to go but my sync info still says version 1.0. i restarted the car a couple of times but no go. what do i need to do now? just wait? if i do a master reset, will that erase the update and take me back to v1.0 (even though that's what the info says i have.) anyone have any ideas? [edit] never mind. went back after dinner and it said 2.2. i'm guessing that the system must be doing something in the background that takes a while. woohoo! all is good. i can't wait to use this, it looks fantastic. thanks so much for posting these update files. i can't believe that ford is not living up to their word by delivering this in 2016. okay, they still have 5 days but...
  10. Most cars in Europe have rear fog lights. They are usually a single very bright red light so the car behind you can see you from a greater distance. I've seen a few German cars around here using them but they use them in the rain which with the reflections and glare tends to blind the driver behind. If you ever see a car driving around with what appears to be a single brake light stuck in, that's a fog light.
  11. Check out the pics I posted in another thread of an edge in Spain. They come with fog lights standard front and rear and the halo is around the headlamps. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21099-1516-edge-headlamp-switch-with-front-fogs/ Anything like this will be far from plug and play though. I would love this setup but not willing to do all that rewiring. Would most likely good my warranty as well.
  12. Thanks @SweetCandyEdge and @rvcjew. I've got a one-hour drive on Monday morning so I'll give it another shot then. I have loads of good, fast thumb drives but they're pushed away until Friday. So if this cheapo stick, that I picked up for five bucks just to do this update, doesn't work then I'll just wait until next weekend. I appreciate your suggestions.
  13. after 40 minutes of "updating system" i pulled the plug. i saw estimates upthread of 15-20 minutes so I thought at 40, something must not be working. a few other oddities, when i pull out the USB drive, the message "device detected" appears in the header of the screen. the first few times i tried the install, it would run for about two minutes and then a message would pop-up saying "update paused. blah blah will resume when you reinsert the USB stick." I tried removing and re-inserting the stick but no go. i finally did a master reset to sync and restarted the install. it worked but this is when it was still going after 40 minutes. any ideas anyone? (BTW, it's the non-nav version in a 2016 edge titanium with sync 3 v1.0)
  14. 2013 edge. is it the original battery? if so, it could be at its end of service life. don't forget that cold weather weakens a battery as well. i usually change my batteries pro-actively every 5 years max so i don't get stuck anywhere. yes, it could last another year or two but if you divide the price of a battery by 5, the annual cost is very small compared to what it "costs" (in time, frustration, potential danger, etc) if you can't start the car in a bad situation.
  15. I use Google maps all the time as well. I just don't care for having a phone holder on the window and the cable dangling down. That's why I'm hoping that maps works well on the big display.
  16. the other thread regarding AA/CP is technical and regarding the installation of the upgrade. How about using it? how is it, what are you doing with it? does google maps work and negate the need for built-in nav? please share your experience.
  17. Thanks for that. I'll give it s go this weekend. I will be extremely happy if I can use AA on the car.
  18. Has anyone done this file download and transfer to a USB stick on a Mac? My windows desktop is packed away until next weekend (Christmas) and I'd love to get this installed.
  19. @akirby, that was me who talked about the truck engines. I was referring to the 3.5 eco-boost. I just thought that would be pretty awesome in an edge! I didn't look too much into the 2.7LEB since it's on the sport only and didn't want to shell out the extra $$$. My last edge had the huge vista roof but although it was nice, I as the driver never really felt that I benefited from it. I don't know about the rest of you but I look forward when I'm driving . On sunny days I couldn't use it 'cause I would fry and I didn't like the wind at freeway/highway speeds. Initially my wife wanted it but now she says she doesn't miss it. Vista roof is a super personal subjective choice.
  20. Can you be more specific please? I have the same noise, dealer says not a problem so I need to address this myself. Did you manage to eliminate the noise? If so, how?
  21. I bought a 2016 this last summer and had similar questions to yours. Answers are subjective and there's no one answer for everyone so I'll share my reasoning with you. Engine: even though the larger eco-boost had more HP and torque, I went with the 3.5 V6 simply because it's what I know. I had a 2009 with the same engine and it was great. I wanted to avoid the added complexity of the turbo. Note if I could have gotten the V6 eco-boost they put in the trucks, that would be a different story! AWD vs FWD: I live in Canada albeit in a part of it that doesn't see much snow. I simply like the confidence that AWD gives me on dirt, mud, snow, and ice. I could probably get by with FWD but prefer AWD. I was at a place with a steep gravel driveway. The person that lived there suggested that I back down to the bottom to get a running start as to not spin the wheels. Didn't need to. I set the dash display to show power distribution for fun and saw power equally distributed to all wheels. Zero spin. I would much rather spend the money on AWD than any of the other gadgets or packages. If I lived in a clime that never saw cold or I never ventured off of paved roads, i'd probably get FWD. I ordered a car to my specs; titanium trim with only a heated steering wheel (which is very nice) as sole option. It only took 6 weeks so it's worth it in my opinion. Be sure to let us know what you choose!
  22. That is an excellent idea! I did this to another car I had many years ago and the difference was night and day. I will get on this during the holidays. Thanks for sharing.
  23. I'm in Barcelona at the moment. I decided to stop by a Ford dealer to see what the euro-edges are like with regards to differences in features or styling. I noticed that they have standard foglights front and back with the halo around the headlamps rather than down low on the bumper as my Canadian spec 2016 edge titanium. Here's a pic of the headlight switch assembly that includes the front and rear fogs.
  24. Not bad. I love the new BMW self-repairing windshield feature! It gets shot out in the middle of the movie and is whole again at the end save for a couple of bullet holes. Lol.
