SYNC3 V2.3 Official Release is Available
ben senise replied to jmr061's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I have a 2016 Ti AWD non-Nav. Currently running Sync v2.2. I downloaded the v2.3 update from the Ford website onto my Windows desktop. I unzipped it to my hard drive and then copied it to a newly formated Kingston 32GB USB stick. I get the "Updating System Software" message but then after about another five minutes or so, I get an error stating that the installation failed and the error code is MEM_ERR03. I called the number on the screen and the agent that helped me said that they've been having quite a few calls about this. He suggested that I wait for the OTA update to happen but patience is not one of my greater virtues. The main reason is that I'm hoping that the update will alleviate the android auto crashing that occurs constantly. just wondering if anyone here is having the same issue and if you managed to work around it. i'm open to any and all suggestions. thanks -
How to disable horn warning?
ben senise replied to mardyn's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
i have just disabled the double honk and set the turn signal to flash seven times when tapping the stalk. you just need a ScanTool 426101 OBDLink MX Bluetooth and forscan software. there are many posts, including one i started called comprehensive list of forscan mods. -
Cabin air filter issue? Mildew smell occuring
ben senise replied to Ericalan350's topic in 2013 Edge & MKX
since your location is texas, i would venture to guess that you use your AC fairly often. i think that some cars get condensation in the ducts and that moisture becomes moldy/midewy or just plain stinky when the car is sitting with no air circulating through the ducts. i even get that a bit here up north of the 49th from time to time and it's usually after i've been using the AC. what i try to do is turn off the AC and turn up the fan a minute or two before i get where i'm going to give the system a chance to dry out. if i can, i crank the heater and the fan and i have found that this often solves the odor problem. give it a shot, it's free, and let us know how it goes. -

Just Drove Home in a 2017 Titanium Ruby Red
ben senise replied to pintokid's topic in Welcome Forum!
congrats, that's a beautiful color. i moved from an '09 ltd to a '16 ti and the difference was night and day. so many more useful features on the new one. i think i had to have two or three goes at programming the homelink garage door button on the car but it worked. and now i can open my garage door from a block away! (not that i do, but just interesting to see.) i also find this AWD system to be better than the old one. good luck! -
wow, that's a steal! i wish i could have found a deal like that. what tires did you get? one thing to remember with the cost of tires is that the larger the wheel, the larger the price of the tire. i would have gone with aftermarket wheels if i had been able to find some that i liked but nothing that cost less than what i got appealed to me.
-
i got these ones as well for my 2016 Ti. I looked for other solutions but I didn't want to spend much more than what these cost. they were a bit over CAD2000 with mIchelin alpine sport, taxes, etc. included. that would be around USD1600 or so.

I have a Canadian spec 2016 and it has an indicator. Bottom left side of the instrument cluster. a green headlight icon with "rays" going both left and right.

I can't figure this out so I thought i'd put it to the collective brain power here. I have a Pixel XL running Oreo 8.0.0. Sync 3 is 2.2 and I did the upgrade via USB stick from the sources here on this forum. My phone sits in a ProClip dock with USB charging cable attached. As soon as i drop the phone in the cradle, AA fires up. It quits regularly. the only solution is to pull it up to disconnect the USB plug and then drop it back down again. It resumes where it left off. i've rebooted the phone many times and i've cleared the data for the AA app. It still keeps happening. first question is whether or not anyone else is having this same problem. second is, has anyone found a solution or have any other suggestions?

Comprehensive List of Possible Forscan Mods?
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Accessories & Modifications
interesting point that i was not aware of. hey, wait, I resemble that remark!!! when i first got the edge, i parked in an outdoor parking lot on a very busy road, thus quite noisy. i got out of the car and locked it and as i stepped away, the car double honked. i wondered what was wrong and went back to the car to check the doors, etc. i couldn't find anything amiss. when i got back in the car 10 min later, i realized that it was still running!!! i attributed this to the fact that the car was so quiet and on a street with a lot of traffic noise. plus, i had never had a car with push-button start where i keep the key in my pocket. i guess it was a "senior moment" even though i don't yet qualify for the senior discounts! so it just goes to prove that even the double-honk is not foolproof for some idiots!! LOL -

ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Accessories & Modifications
which is exactly why no specific mod is good for every use case scenario. in your case, the mod could cause problems. in my case, it removes the annoyance of my horn honking outside the house up the street or wherever. definitely not a "one size fits all" situation! -
Comprehensive List of Possible Forscan Mods?
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I posted the forscan mods that worked, above. now for the ones that didn't work on my '16 Edge Ti 3.5. Bluetooth Pairing Name This is a totally pointless mod but now i'l doing some of these just because i can. APIM 7D0-04-01 xxxx xxxx XXxx This changes the device name of the truck when pairing bluetooth devices. Change the XX with: 2D=Raptor, 0E=F150, 0F=F250, 10=F350, 19=MKZ, 02=Focus, 03=Fusion, 04=C-Max, 06=Mustang, 08=Escape, 09=Edge, 24=Mondeo, 0B=Explorer, 20=Fiesta, 1B=MKC, 2E=Continental, 1C=MKX, 1E=Navigator, 0C=Expedition. ** The above only works in Sync 3 ver 2.0+ and if you wish to change it you must remove paired phone from Sync 3 & paired name from phone and re-pair. Doesn’t show a “write” button so I used "write all." Changed XX from 00 to 09 and it did not work so I reverted back to 00. Disable all Seat Belt Chimes This one I really want to work. I always wear my seatbelts but i always start my car before i put them on. i don't need anyone nagging me to do it. in fact, it's actually more dangerous to chime all the time since i have been trained to ignore all of these ridiculous sounds. IPC 720-01-01 xxxx xxXx xxxx Number 0 in this position disables the chime on the driver and passenger seats. Doesn’t show a “write” button so i used "write all" at the bottom. Changed X from 6 to 0 but it did not work so I reverted back to 6. Timeouts for Heated Steering Wheel This is another one that would be nice to have so i don't have to manually turn off the heated steering wheel. HSWM 714-01-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx HSWM is Heated Steering Wheel Module. Replace the X with one of the following: 1=Timeout disabled, 8=5 mins, 9=10 mins, A=12 mins, B=15 mins, C=18 mins, D=20 mins, E=25 mins, F=30 mins i got this for the F150 forum and it was marked as not confirmed and that it is possibly an F150 only module. I changed X from 0 to 9 and it didn't work so I reverted to 0. Disable Door Chime when Door Ajar This is another one that I don't need to be reminded about. I survived perfectly fine driving old cars that didn't have any of this nanny-tech. IPC 720-01-02 xxXx xxxx xxxx X = 1 Enables door chime when door open and ignition on. X = 0 Disables door chime when door open and ignition on. I changed X from 1 to 0 but it didn't work so I reverted to 1. I intend to do more research on these mods that didn't work but in the mean time, if anyone knows what i did wrong, i'm all ears. -
DRL Change
ben senise replied to 15FireSport's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
that's interesting. i like the light color on your pics. looks great with the LED "signature lights." from the link you posted, it says that these are high-beam bulbs. i have been meaning to look into this on my car but i didn't realize that my DRL were the high beams. i put in some brighter phillips or sylvania bulbs a few months ago. they're still plain halogen bulbs but they supposedly put out more light. It seems like they do but that could just be my mind buying into the advertising. how are your high-beams with these bulbs? do you notice more light? i live in a pretty rural area and we have so many deer, raccoons, and even the odd bear, crossing the road. more light is always better for safety. -

thanks enigma-2. i think it's a risk that i'll just have to live with. do you think that changes are logged or do they just compare values that are set at that moment? for example, if I change value X from 0 to 1 and then back to the original 0, will they be able to see that i have made changes or not since when they check it, it is at its original value? In any case, here are the additional changes that i've made and whether they worked or not: Secure Idle (AKA Police Mode): Doesn't Allow Vehicle To Shift From Park To Drive Without Passive Key Inside Vehicle (Shifter Locked w/No Key Detected Message) BdyCM 726-42-01 (2014+ MY) xXxx xxxx xxxx X=0 (Disabled - Default) X=1 (Enabled) Works (I had to use the "Write All" button at the bottom of the page as per Omar302's suggestion.) Heated and Cooled Seats Icons on Home and Climate Screens APIM 7D0-01-01 xxxx xxxx xXxx X=1: Cooled seats option on screen, no heated seats or heated wheel option. X=2: Heated/cooled seats option on screen with no heated wheel option. X=3: Heated seats on screen, no cooled seats and no heated wheel option. X=4: No on screen heated/cooled seats on any screen, heated wheel is in top left.(default) X=5: Unknown X=6: Heated/Cooled seats and heated wheel options on screen. X=7: Heated seats and heated wheel, no cooled seats. X=8: Rear Climate Control panel, no heated/cooled options for front. I changed X from 4 to 7 Verified Yes, this is redundant since there are hard buttons for the heated seats on the console but I like having the heated steering wheel control one step closer. I wouldn't have done this had Ford put a hard button for the heated steering wheel on the console. here's a pic to show what it looks like on the home screen: Remove Sirius from Sync This is a pretty useless mod since all it does is remove Sirius as a media source. APIM 7D0-01-01 Xxxx xxxx xxxx If X is A change to 8, if 2 change to 0. Change does not take effect immediately. Turn truck off, open and shut door, wait 30 seconds and restart. mine had an A so I changed it to 8 and it worked. -

good point but nobody drives my car but me. this is a perfect example of where customization might be fantastic for one person, and disaster for another. when i stop to check our mailbox, which is a block away, i really hate when the car honks so no honk is great. the other solution would be to reach in my pocket and leave the key in the car. also, i intend to put it in "police mode" so it can't be shifted out of park when the key is not in the car (if i understand that setting correctly.) ah, good point. i'll give that a shot and see if it works. thanks. -
Comprehensive List of Possible Forscan Mods?
ben senise replied to ben senise's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I received my ODBlink MX (Bluetooth) and got my extended license for the Forscan software. I had a bit of trouble pairing and connecting to the device but that was the fault of Windows 10. I finally got it working after I deleted the bluetooth drivers and started the pairing procedure again which i believe forced windows into reinstalling the drivers from scratch. I was successful in making and verifying the following mods on my 2016 Edge Ti 3.5: Change number of turn signal flashes on a quick tap of the stalk from the default of 3. (SCCM) 724-01-01 xxxx xXxx xx 0 = One Flash 4 = Two Flashes 6 = Three Flashes - (Default C02D 0600 xx ORIGINAL) 8 = Four Flashes A = Five Flashes C = Six Flashes E = Seven Flashes Door Close Double Horn Honk (Engine Running Without Keyfob Detected (PTS)): BdyCM 726-41-02 xxxX xxxx xxxx 1 (Enabled - Default) 0 (Disabled) Disable Door Chime when Door Ajar IPC 720-01-02 xxXx xxxx xxxx X = 1 Enables door chime when door open and ignition on. X = 0 Disables door chime when door open and ignition on. I also changed the steering wheel timeout to turn off after 10 minutes but i haven't verified that it works. i'll post here when i do. I was unable to modify a few items because there was no "Write" button on the Forscan software for those particular lines. Obviously this means that I can't save those values but does anyone know why? is it a limitation of the Forscan software or of the Edge software? I'm going to try a few more things in the next few days. I ran down the battery last night because the car was on for so long. i had to put it on a charger overnight. -

great list of mods. i intend to do all of those. i ordered the OBD dongle and it should arrive tomorrow. re the "police mode," does this mean that i'll be able to shift out of park as long as there's the key inside the car? that would be great. i've been in situations a few times where i just want to roll the car backwards of forwards a tiny bit but am unable to without starting the engine. re side mirror tilt, is there no way to just have the passenger side mirror dip by default? i could live with the need to press the button since now if i need the mirror i have to press the button and then tilt the mirror myself. i can't wait until my edge becomes "mine" in the way it works thanks to this forum. -

another thing that could be useful for the noob like me is a "forscan for dummies" or a primer of some sort. do i need a license for the forscan software in order to modify the settings on my edge? i don't see a place to buy a license but there's mention of having an account but needing to meet certain criteria, etc. i can't figure out what the deal is here. is this some kind of underground cult with a secret handshake? i was hoping for a more straightforward experience; buy dongle, buy software, hack. it's not clear to me what i need to do/buy in order to proceed. can anyone give me the steps? thanks -

thanks @roots57. I don't have a laptop, just a desktop, so i would need a wireless version. my desktop is within WiFi and/or BT range of the car but a cable would have to be impractically long. Interesting info about the warranty too. i too would put all mods back to stock before any service. i wonder if they have software that detects changes. -
Comprehensive List of Possible Forscan Mods?

Are you saying that you cannot modify the values that you need to modify to change behavior like the turn-signal flashes mentioned above? is that limitation due to the android app or the OBD tool? I see that there is a WiFi version of this same tool available. If I use my PC will I be able to modify the things I want to modify? Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate the help though. I'm totally new to this and don't want to buy the wrong thing.
