  1. What happened? did the car that hit yours drive away? i'd have a hard time imagining that. maybe you explain in one of your videos but I'm getting the same video on both links above. am i doing something wrong? I agree with the lower mileage edge. this really sucks. i feel your pain. such needless waste.
  2. You can run the Android Auto app on a phone without running it on Sync3. What that gives you is a simplified interface on your phone, similar to what you get on the screen of your car. it is ideally suited to a phone sitting in a mount on your dash. you can get the sound from navigation and music and phone calls through your car speakers by connecting bluetooth.
  3. Thanks. I'm familiar with the tech. I don't care about the targeted advertising. I was trying, unsuccessfully I suppose, to be funny.
  4. funnily enough, i just found out that Petro Canada offers 94 octane in Alberta and Ontario. it was an ad served up on a web page. coincidental? i think not. big brother is watching.
  5. where do you have 93 octane? i go to SoCal once in a while and i've only seen 87, 89, 91 like we have here in the west coast of canada. i have seen 100 octane at one place where the guy i was driving with filled up his Carrera GT. i never did any testing with my '09 3.5 but I have with my '16 3.5. i get about 10% better mileage with 89 and than with 87. No further improvement with 91 over 89 so i use 89. Mileage is around 5% better in the summer than in the winter. I don't know if this is due to different fuel mixtures, due to the fact that i use the seat and steering wheel heaters, or just the fact that the weather is colder. i would say that the torque feels higher with 89 over 87 but that's a subjective observation, not empirical testing. Likely influenced by knowing what's in the tank. [edit to correct typo]
  6. there are two small levers on the front vertical part of the seat where it joins the floorpan. push those, lift the front of the seat, and push the seat to the rear. at the same time, lift the rear of the seat to disengage it from two hooks. not difficult once you get the feel for it. putting the seat back is the reverse; put the seat in place, push to the back and push down on the rear to engage the hooks. then just press down on the front to latch the levers.
  7. what i found in my case was that there's an electrical connector on each side under the seat. i think it's for the easy fold (electric release) seat backs. i took out my seat and saw that they were loose so i zip-tied them down and got rid of the rattle. well, at least one of the rattles in the most rattling car i have ever owned.
  8. so are you saying that our edges have large nuts and we need to twist them harder?
  9. I was driving by my usual dealer today so i thought i'd stop by and see my service rep who is a really nice guy. i started out by mentioning that i was curious about the lug-nut torque on my edge and right away he says "100 lb-ft." when i said it was 162 in the manual, his jaw dropped and he said "what??" a couple of other guys at the service desk got involved and they too were basically saying WTF?!?! One guy looked it up on the service manual online and it did say 162 lb-ft/220 nm. but just as he was looking it up, one of the mechanics came in and heard the conversation and said 100 lb-ft is what they torque to. all of the "hands on" people, the guys that actually wield the tools, said 100 lb-ft but the manuals say 162. they even looked up some big truck with big lug nuts (F150 super duty?) and it was something around 140. I still suspect that something is wrong here and this is such a massive fluster-cluck because it's a big huge company and nobody's in charge. in the end, i'm going to loosen my lug nuts. maybe i'll go to 110 or even 120 but 162 is just insane and that's what all the mechanics felt as well. do any of you think that the lug-nuts could have been damaged, weakened by torquing them so high? this is crazy. i'm going to pursue it via more publicity somehow.
  10. hah, interesting. amazon.ca doesn't!!! i should have looked at the .com site. so here is my report. i was anxious to get new blades so i went to one of the big chains (canadian tire for anyone who's interested) and i bought a 28AOE. they don't carry the BOE though because they are idiots. it fit! since the "spoiler" part is meant for the driver's side, i couldn't buy two AOE models. so i went to another store where they carried both AOE and BOE but their price is nearly double. $28 at CT (remember, canadian pesos) vs $53 at the other place. so i just bought the BOE there. i complained to the person helping me and they brought the price down to $44. so my average price was $36. As an additional note to any other potential buyers who can only find one side or the other, i have a sneaking suspicion that one could pull the clip off of the blade and turn it around to make it work for the opposite side. I didn't try it but when it comes time to replace these ones, i'll try to take them apart, that way if i break them then it won't matter. i didn't want to risk breaking a brand new one. So there you have it, the Bosch Icon windshield wipers that fit my 2016 Edge are 28AOE (driver's side) and 28BOE (passenger's side.) BTW, the blades are great. they are smooth and quiet and they leave the glass absolutely clean and streak free. let's see how long they last.
  11. I have used bosch icons for years and had them on many vehicles including my last edge, an '09. now it seems like it's impossible to find the right blades of any brand. i bought a set of Bosch Icon 28A and B, supposedly A for the driver's side and B for the passenger's side. The clips weren't the same as on the car. The wiper arms are basically like a stick. no U-shaped hook at the end like the old ones. I took them back no problem but now i'm wondering if the 28AOE and BOE will work. i'm not sure. and on top of that, the store only carries the AOE and no BOE. they are asymetric so i can't (shouldn't) put the same one on both sides. here's the funny business: the bosch website states only the 28BOE is for the 2016 edge but they're asymetric the packaging clearly shows A for driver's side and B for passenger side. a local car part chain's website states: A type blades for U - hook style arms and B type blades are for pin arms and flat blades which is totally BS I don't want to order from amazon in case i get the wrong blades and they don't fit. has anyone here bought bosch icons? if so, what part number fit on your 2nd gen edge?
  12. i dunno but she looks like she would lick you to death. she looks really sweet to me. gorgeous dog, Chipster.
  13. I press on the steering wheel button instead of saying "OK Google" when my phone is plugged into the car and running Android Auto. I was just wondering if there is anyway to direct my speaking to Sync instead. For example, if I want to issue a command like changing the climate control temperature or similar. It's a hassle to press the screen to return to sync and do something and then go back to AA.
  14. excellent suggestion. i'm going to throw my breaker bar and a socket in back. could very well save the day at some point. thanks.
  15. i recently removed the rear seat bottom in search of one of dozens of annoying rattle. I got rid of the rattles by putting a couple of pieces of very dense foam in key spots and putting a couple of zip ties nice and tight on some connectors. to remove the seat, there are two small levers on the front of the seat where it meets the structure of the car. they are about center of the two outside seats. press those and lift the seat a little bit. this will disengage the hooks. now push the seat to the rear of the car and pull up at the rear. this will disengage the hooks at the rear of the seat, also approximately centered under the two outer seats and approx. as far back as the seat back. once the rear hooks are out, lift the rear part of the seat and it will be free.
  16. i share the same thoughts with you. i'd love to know why. that would be great. i called my local dealer today and talked to a service rep but not my usual one. he said that it was correct but i think he was just blowing me off and couldn't be bothered to look for the correct answer. i'll try again when my rep is back from vacation.
  17. I'd like to revive this thread. I put on my winter wheels a few weeks ago and I too find the torque value printed in the owner's manual to be extremely high. while i appreciate people's opinions, i'd like to know if there is a ford published value somewhere that contradicts the one in my 2016 owner's manual of 162 lb ft as the OP stated.
  18. what kind of tires do you have on the edge?
  19. interestingly enough, when i go to the ford.ca website, there is no option for roof rails on the sport model. the titanium gives you the option but not the sport. are rails not available on the sport model?
  20. my personal experience, and of course YMMV, is that when i turn off the car with the radio on, it goes to FM when i turn it back on again. if i turn the radio/sync off before turning off the car, it starts on the right source. i never, ever list to the radio or sirius. i always listen to music on a USB stick or spotify on my phone. this is the behavior i observe on my '16 and was the same on my '09.
  21. don't forget that the prices quoted by us canadians is in canadian pesos. that's about $1.28 canadian to a US greenback today.
  22. i got the michelin alpine sports latitude x-ice which i've always had on every car. grip is awesome and stopping power is too, wet or dry. [edit to add: i thought i had the alpin but i just noticed that i'm mistaken. i've always had the alpin in the past so went with the latitude x-ice this time since that's what was avilable.]
  23. Those look great! I wish i had found something like that when i was looking for winter wheels and tires. i just went with the ford package of wheels that are the standard SE (or SEL?) 18" ones. Oh well. maybe next time.
  24. thanks. i have formatted the usb stick to fat32 and the three items are at root level but still no joy. i'll try a different usb drive on tuesday when i have a 40 min drive coming.
