  1. oh that is awesome! exactly the kind of thing that I was looking for. thank you so much. i'll keep searching for other mods.
  2. I've searched the web a bit and can find bits and pieces of information but I was wondering if there is a comprehensive list of the things you can modify on the Edge with the Forscan software. If such a list does not exist, how about a thread where people can add specific settings that are modifiable and ask about ones that haven't been mentioned yet. There are loads of little things that I would love to improve (from my subjective viewpoint) on the edge but I don't want to buy the OBD unit and spend time learning about the software if none of the things I want to do are possible. An example of one extremely insignificant setting would be the number of flashes the turn-signal makes when you just tap the stalk. Three is simply not enough. I would like at least six or more. I know perfectly well that that I can simply hold the stalk and that this is really nit-picking but these are the types of details I'm thinking about and I'm just curious to know how much I can mod the car. Another thing is that this car makes more beeps, bings, and gongs than a video game. They're annoying and ridiculous and I don't even pay attention to them anymore. I'd love to reduce or even eliminate some of them.
  3. what color? what options? don't be a tease!
  4. As I have a Pixel and it is a "pure android" phone by google, everything is updated as soon as it comes out. i have the settings at automatically update and as soon as i get notifications, i go through with them. as the issue occurs with or without android auto running or even the usb cable running, yes, i can get back to sync by exiting AA (bottom right corner icon). i have not yet tried the last item in your suggestions but now i will next time it happens. good idea. would help isolate the cause. thanks. i'll report back here once i try that.
  5. exactly. i discovered the issue while trying to use android auto since when i plugged the USB cable in, it wouldn't launch, and i discovered that the USB slider switch was off and couldn't be moved into the "on" position. then i discovered that this occurred even without plugging in the cable. this has occured with multiple cables, two phones, with the original Sync version and with the updated version. i have reset and replaced just about everything. my main goal in posting here was to ask if anyone else is having the same issue or i'm the only one. of course, if someone had the solution to the problem, or even the root cause of the problem, that would be great. i can't show it to the dealer because it's unpredictable both when it occurs and when it fixes itself. i was thinking of recording video of the switch not sliding to prove that i'm not crazy.
  6. but bluetooth is wireless. i can connect via bluetooth without the usb cable, just not use android auto. when the graphic slider switch is stuck, the phone isn't even plugged into the USB cable. the phone should connect to BT so i can use sync without android auto and make calls or play music. this is why i'm confused by the possibility that the USB cable is causing the BT to get stuck.
  7. it has happened with two different cables; the cable that came with the pixel and a the one that came installed in the pro-clip mount. how do you think a USB cable would affect bluetooth being on or off?
  8. sometimes when I connect my phone to the usb cable, android auto won't start or connect. i have noticed that when it does this, the slider under settings/bluetooth is in the "off" position and I cannot slide it to "on." It is just frozen there. after a while, it goes back on by itself and android auto starts and connects. i used to do a reset and that would work but then i had to change my settings everywhere. i got tired of this and just decided to let it go and that's when i discovered that it would eventually reset itself. has anyone else seen this behavior and if so, have you found a solution or at least a workaround (that doesn't involve a reset or waiting an indeterminate amount of time?) The car is a 2016 Edge Ti (Sony system) with Sync 2.2. The phone is a Google Pixel XL with the latest Android build (8.0.0) and android auto 2.6. This problem was occurring before i updated to sync 2.2 and before i upgraded to oreo. in fact, this sync business has been pretty sucky since day one.
  9. i'm sorry i didn't see your question until now it was a bit over $100 canadian so about $80 or so US? it's very thin though and i really wouldn't recommend it. i had one on my '09 and it was much thicker. this one is almost like a bumper sticker. i think it's barely more than 1 mm thick. on my black edge it is effectively invisible. on a contrasting color maybe it would look better.
  10. for less than ten bucks that looks like a deal. i bought the ford one and was extremely disappointed in how thin it is. and how expensive it was.
  11. sync 3 supports FLAC. I have many on a 128GB USB stick in my 2016 Edge. It does not re-index unless you take out the stick and make changes to it. converting analog to digital on a $10 device will sound like garbage.
  12. if you have a chance, could you post a pic of the climate controls on the right cluster? i was thinking about getting the forscan setup and I think this might actually get to do it.
  13. judging by the pic you posted, you have a different model of infotainment system than i do. according to the user manual for the '15 edge, p 261, go to the phone menu, select BT Devices, then ON/OFF. let me know if that's right and if it works. good luck!
  14. I too have had many problems with the sync 3 on my 16 edge. sometimes when it wouldn't connect, i found that the BT wasn't even on and it won't go on when i press the button on the screen. this is a long shot but have you checked to see if BT is on?
  15. before you swap the sub out again, have you tried stuffing it with polyester pillow stuffing? i did that to some other speakers in another car and the difference was literally unbelievable. you can throw tons of money at high-end stuff but sometimes the low-tech stuff works wonders. just a thought especially since it's super cheap to do. what about the other speakers like rear doors, center dash and the two on the cieling behind the rear seat? doing anything with those? your setup looks great. really a shame about the tweeter though. i'd only do it if i could get it in the factory location. out of curiosity, not including your labor, how much did all of this hardware cost?
  16. Interestingly enough, i've been getting the same error messages for the last few days. Then yesterday when coming out of the hardware store, the car was dead. completely absolutely dead. I thought that it was strange considering that i had just driven there. I have a physical switch on the battery that disconnects it because i sometimes leave it for a month or more at a time and i don't want it to drain the battery. I figured that this must be the problem so reached under the hood and tightened it (it's a knob with a screw that tightens the connection.) Sure enough, everything is fine and no more error messages. So I would put my bet on the side of having a bad battery or even a loose connection too.
  17. i just noticed a cool feature that i hadn't noticed before on my 2016 Titanium. I had manually raised the fan speed to the upper range (i usually do this after running the AC to blow out moisture so it doesn't get that funky mildew smell after sitting in the garage) and a few seconds later i started making a call through Sync. The system lowered the fan speed when I made the call and raised it again after I hung up. I would assume that it would do the same thing when receiving a call. I thought that was very useful.
  18. I guess you guys are right. Thanks for your input. But don't ALL car alarms sound when you open a door, hood, liftgate, etc.? Why call it a "perimeter" alarm? Seems like marketing bs to me and I'm a bit disappointed.
  19. I was curious about the perimeter alarm on my 2016 Edge Titanium so I went up to the car and started banging on it. No alarm. If I hit it any harder, I'll break it. I also tried leaving the window open and reaching into the car as if I were stealing something. Still no alarm. The brochure for the 2016 Edge lists it as standard equipment on the Titanium. I'm beginning to wonder if my car has it or not. Shouldn't the alarm go off if I reach in the car? I understood that it had some kind of sensor in the interior to detect movement. The Owner's Manual doesn't really say anything about the Perimeter Alarm. In fact, the word "perimeter" only appears once in reference to the tires. Anyone have experience with this?
  20. i don't think my symptoms are similar to the OP's on that thread. Although I do think I have had a similar problem a while back. I'm familiar with processes to isolate problems like this but i haven't dedicated the time to documenting the exact circumstances of each time i have the problem and how i eventually get it to work. it all just seems so random.
  21. thanks for the suggestion Ray but a reset on the phone is just too painful. i always get the sync and phone working but it just takes a bit of work. i can't remember exactly what i do in each situation since it's almost always different and i just keep trying things until it works, or sometimes not and next time i start the car it does. one thing i forgot to mention about the different modes of failure is really bizarre. sometimes when the phone won't connect, i see that BT is off on Sync and I cannot turn it back on. I go to settings/bluetooth and the little on/off slider is in the off position and it won't go to the on position. just to show you that it's a bit strange.
  22. I've done a master reset on the Sync at least 3 times, maybe 4. i have no power managers or bluetooth apps. very minimalist. it's a pixel xl so only a few months old. right up to date with 7.1.1 it's not a huge deal. just a hassle. it works most of the time. but of course it doesn't work when i need it to most. thanks for the thoughts though. [edit] i noticed that i wrote phone doesn't connect by wifi, i meant bluetooth. oops!
  23. my sync has been extremely flaky since i installed it. sometimes the phone won't connect by wifi, sometimes android auto won't show when i plug it in via usb. my contacts don't show properly and so many more things i can't even remember. it seems to work fine for a couple of weeks and then it just goes schizo. i'd like to download this latest build and re-install the whole thing, not just the OS part. is there a relatively straight-forward way to do this? i don't see the download files on the ford website since it shows that i'm already up to date.
  24. My Edge sleeps in my garage so I can't use remote start at home. It's still cold enough to make the heated steering wheel a pleasure though.
  25. i was in barcelona last fall and popped into a ford dealer there to look at the edge. i posted pictures of the fog lights and the switch inside the cabin. all one would need to do is go to a ford dealer in europe and order the parts. but i think that wiring would be a PITA. the LED lights that we have down in that slot are not there in the euro models. there is an LED ring around the headlight assembly instead.
