3.5 lack of power at low RPM

Is it just me, but I have a 2011 edge with the 3.5 and it seems to have a lot more power at lower RPM with the a/c on. My 2015 3.5 seems to have no power at low RPM. Between 20-40 MPH. This seems to be only with the a/c on. Anyone else have this problem? There can't be much difference between the 2 engines. I heard that the 2015 is supposed to have more horsepower too.

I forget the rpm of the torque peak on the new 3.5L, either 4000 or 4500, HP peak is 6000 rpm. When you want to accelerate it will always drop at least one and sometimes two gears.

Years ago it took a pretty stout big block or a Really hot small block with MFI or one or two 4bbl or 3 Dueces to make 280 HP. And those engines would have some low end torque and mid-range torque. Once the little 3.5L drops a gear or two it gets up to speed O-K.

Back in '88 I considered my 5.0L HO at 225 HP & around 280#/ft of torque a high winding engine with not much low/mid-range. You needed to see 3000-3500 on the tach to accelerate with authority and shift around 4800-5000. Today kids consider it a torque monster!

Just watch the tach on your Edge and keep it over 3000 if you want to accelerate, pay no attention to the gas gauge. If you wanted MPG you should have bought a VW Jetta SporTrac!
