Tire Pressure monitor

My 2018 Edge TPS is useless. I have had the dealer recalibrate it twice and it doesn't read correctly even at the dealer. They did get it within 1 pound so I thought it would be just fine. So, I leave the dealer at noon, drive 85 miles home and it shows  36 lbs on all 4 wheels +/- 1lbs. I wake up in the morning and they show 30 lbs in the rear and 31 in the front @ 70F . Is this the best Ford can do? My 2017 F150 was spot on as most every other car/truck in the past decade has been. This is a joke. Anyone else have an issue with this? I have seen one wheel read 33 lbs and another read 39 with no low tire warning light. Why even have the system if it doesn't know what the pressures  are. Sorry for the rant.

It is normal to have 3-5 psi change between readings from a cold tire (parked overnight) and a hot tire (ex. 10 mile ride).

Also, the TPMS low light would come on when the tire is around 25% under recommended pressure, for the Edge the recommended pressure is 35 psi and the light would come on around 26-28 psi (not sure exactly).

From what you have explained and see anything unusual. Also remember that the readings are sent from each sensor every 2 minutes or so, so there might be bigger differences between tires depending on when the system updates.

One last variable is the rounding of numbers, 35.4 & 34.6 will both probably read as 35, but then one will read 36 psi much quicker.

Thanks for the reply. Though I do understand that there will be a small change in pressure due to outside temp. I have never owned a vehicle that is this inaccurate. My 2017 F150 only showed lower pressures in the winter when it was below 20 degrees F, but very accurate. I can't believe Ford would think this system is ok to read 30lbs in the morning, 70F, and  36 in the afternoon when it is 90F. Plus the difference between the front and rear has been over 4lbs several times without even a warning light. The F150  would set a light with a 3lb difference and the tire would actually be low due to sub freezing temps. Anyway, I also have my climate control not working correctly as well. I think I will give the regional rep a call and see what he/she has to say.

Well my Ford Pass app doesn't say that but I will say that out of the 6 2018-19 Edges that I looked at were within a pound of door sticker in the morning. Not sure why Ford would have numbers on a display if not used to read said numbers. Just put a warning light on the dash if it is going to be misleading. I check my tires in the morning when they read 30 lbs and I still have 36 pounds in them. I only run nitrogen on low profile tires/wheels as they tend to be more critical about low pressures. I will say this is the worst tech I have seen on  a Ford in years. My outside temp will stay at 52F all day when it is 95F outside. My climate control blows cold air through the vents when I have the temp  set to 70 and it is 46 outside in the mornings and it is freezing inside the cab. These are not normal as the tire pressures should be somewhat accurate like the ones at the dealer and a friend at work that bought a 19 after I bought my 18. So I am not really that pleased with this great Ford Edge in those areas. Everything else has been great. Good power, excellent mileage and comfortable to drive. I just don't accept that my concerns are "normal". The two dealers said they issues I have are not "normal" but since it is over an hour to the dealer and they don't offer loaner cars, it is hard for them to replicate a few of the issues. I understand that all TPMS are not supposed to be used as the only way to see pressures, but they should read within a lbs of your actual pressure, not 4-5 lbs just because it is 65F in the morning. If the tires were actually losing that much pressure overnight, I would ask for new tires. Never seen a new vehicle with such a mess up electrical system from the factory.

What your facing is NOT normal. My Edge's TPMS readouts are very close to actual measurements, and they do fluctuate from cold to hot (morning start to after a 30 minute drive). Also the outside temperature reading is also fairly accurate.

That's my experience with my 2017 Sport.

I have another question, I'll be replacing my tires soon at 50K miles and 2 years 9 months - should I replace the sensors at that time, or at the next tire replacement around 100K miles 5.5 years?

Google suggests the sensors are good for 5 to 10 years.

That is a very good question. The only time I have ever replaced them was on aftermarket wheels. When ever changing tires I would just keep them in place. I've had some cars with TPMS and, I have never considered replacing them.

I had my 2011 MKX for ~ 6 years & ~ 70K miles. Original Tire set and one replacement set and did not have any issues with the TPMS. The manual does state that the valve stems should be replaced when installing new tires. But my tire shop did not change them. (link to Tasca Parts -315 MHz stems, for sensors with 433MHz have a different part number)
