I have a question regarding the lug nut torque of 162 ft-lbs... really? why would you need that much? are you guys really torquing the lug nuts that much? It seems to me that would increase the risk of warped rotors? and also, mine appear to have the SS clad lug nuts. (I need to take one off to validate). It seems to me that 162 ft-lbs would destroy the cladding in short order. We swapped out clad lug nuts for solid steel lug nuts on two mustanges when the cladding starting giving issues... and we were only doing 90 ft-lbs !!! would like to hear the comments the fellow edge owners please before I begin rotating the tires.. thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Within the first 15K miles of my Sports life the Ford dealership damaged the aluminum cladding on the lug nuts due to the use of impact wrenches for removing and installing them - they gave me a complete new set - 125K miles and they're still in "as new" condition. Recently had tires installed at Costco - added clear instructions to the job card that no impact wrench be used - I watched and they didn't use impacts. . Mine originally stated 150 ft/lbs which I can install & remove by hand, BUT it seems way too high. What I ultimately found out is that the 150 ft/lb value was for trucks, not cars. The online owners manual show it as 162 (same as above), and the ford service manager and the parts guy both looked it up and came up with the same number. I cannot believe it should be that tight. my two 1/2" drive torques wrenches only go to 150. I find it hard to believe they made a misprint ! I tightened in 4-5 stages, the last two stages was at 150 ft-lbs and then I turned the handle one more turn...supposedly at 160.... the handle was now off the scale. All done by hand and no impact wrench. The nuts turn very little after 100 ft-lbs and although it was tight, it did not feel too unreasonalble for the m14 thread. Just for yuks, I just did an internet search for the Ford Edge lug nut torque specs, for the years 2007 to 2024. Depending on where you find the information, the torque spec ranges from a low of 79 ft/lbs to a high of 162 ft/lbs ( as shown in the Ford documentation ). Where fh4ever had his Service Manager & Parts guy tell him that 162 ft/lbs is the correct answer, my purchasing dealer Service Tech told me 100 ft/lbs.
