edjunior
I got a message today, after my Edge wouldn't remote start, that the battery in the fob was low. Yeah, so low, it wouldn't remote start. I could still unlock the door though. Got the other fob, and as I figured, it was dead also. Luckily, I had some CR-2025 batteries at the house. Of course I didn't know that each fob took two batteries. Dang. And man, getting the cover off was a test of patience. If I had to get to the emergency key for something real, I think I might have broken the thing. After it broke my fingernails!! Anyway, I finally got them apart, changed the batteries, and all is good. Now to get the second TPMS sensor replaced. It's close to oil change time, so I might just wait until that comes up, or just get the oil change done a little early, and have the TPMS done at the same time. It's all good!

Oldandintheway
The Edge FOB takes CR2450 batteries. they are 24mm diameter and 5mm thick The CR2025 is 20mm diameter and 2.5mm thick. Two of those can work in a pinch, but the diameter can be an issue.

The other one did have a little trouble holding the top battery, but both fobs work just fine now. Maybe the 2016 used the 2025?? I don't know, but they both work now.
omar302
They are two different fob styles. 2015/2016 used the older style (with 2x 2025 batteries) while 2017+ started using the newer type with a single 2450 battery. My 2016 came with the older type and I added fob of the newer style. You can see them side by side In this post I made at the time.

Just to clarify and a word of caution to anyone that may consider this suggestion in a pinch - two of the CR2025 stacked would result in a 6v battery which could fry a device designed for 3v.
Wubster100
If you need to use CR2025, a better option would be to use tinfoil to create the extra 2.5mm of space.

Thanks! I kinda knew that but wasn’t thinking. Good catch. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. 😉
enigma-2
While most of the pre 2018 cars used two CR2025 batteries, some standard flip keys or older-style fobs may used a single CR2032. Best to check before buying. BTW, I've never changed the batteries in my 2009 MKX fob.)There good for the life of the car, like PTU fluid, right?)
