Odd smell from AC vents during hard acceleration

I bought a new 2016 Ford Edge Sport in August 2016. Since day one, an odd smell enters the cabin during hard acceleration out of the AC vents. I have to open the windows to vent out as the smell is so bad sometimes. I took to dealer with the problem. They put a disinfectant through the AC system. But that did not work. I just had it back to the dealer. Apparently, this is normal. They said when under heavy acceleration, PCM shuts AC compressor off to remove the load from the engine to allow for needed power from engine, recirc door moves to fresh air mode until gas pedal is released. If anyone else having this problem, hopefully this helps.

Update: October 22, 2017

Still experiencing exhaust smell in cabin during hard acceleration, so bad at times, I need to open all windows to vent out. Did a search yesterday to see if I could find anything new about this issue. Check out this link. Im taking my 2016 Ford Edge back to Dealer tomorrow.

It eventually goes away for most people. I lost that smell a few thousand miles ago on my Sport and nearly every Ford I have owned has had that smell initially when going WOT. I have always understood that it is just some of the anti-corrosion coatings burning off from the exhaust manifold/turbo area which does get very hot during WOT runs. I have run either a Corsa or Borla system on many of my cars and have noted that the same smell returns for a while after installation.

Ford has a major issue similar to this on the 2011+ Explorer with a class action suit going on. The 2011-2014 Edge & 2011-2015 MKX also had it, though on a much smaller scale than the Explorer. Ford issued several TSB for them, mainly changing the rear air extractors, sealing openings at the rear, and finally changing the exhaust tips so the fumes exit downwards. But this is the 1st time I read about a 2015+ Edge facing the same issue.

In the above, the smell comes when after/during hard acceleration with the A/C on recirculating air, seems that the fumes are being sucked in due to the A/C.

I'd suggest 1st checking the rear hatch if it is closing/sealing properly.

Thank you for all the input. I just hit 8K miles on my Edge today, still have smell in cabin during hard acceleration such as when I'm merging onto a highway. I'll take it back to dealer and hope they can fix the issue.

I took delivery of my 2016 Edge Sport in Sept 2016. The exhaust odor in the cabin started immediately and smells similar to sulphur.

The odor occurs at any speed and not at WOT when the a/c is in recirc mode. It seems faster to get rid of the odor by putting the a/c in "fresh" mode (outside air)

rather than opening the windows and losing all the cool air that is in the cabin.

The dealer has found many leaks including in the tailgate. But, after two attempts the odor has not stopped.

This is the only vehicle I have owned (my last Ford product was a 2003 Explorer V8 4x4) that has had this problem. I am very disappointed with this car.
