  1. I've driven this vehicle over 5 years and just discovered this yesterday! Slide on rod feature: The visor will slide back and forth on the rod for increased sunlight coverage. Rotate the visor towards the side window and extend it rearward for additional sunlight coverage. That's what I get for not reading the manual from cover to cover...what else have I missed out on??? I had never used the visor much since I'm tall and it generally blocks the top 2/3's of the windshield when it's down, but the last couple years since changing jobs and my commute is now more into the sun and generally beside me, I have been using it more on the side and many times I thought "man I wish this thing was a little longer or had that extension panel like my '97 Explorer had..." Then, yesterday as I had my hand up behind it grasping slightly, as I started to move forward, it slid back! What a pleasant surprise!
  2. I doubt there is any kind of warranty left that would cover the paint, especially on an '07. I haven't had any paint issues with my '07. What color did you get?
  3. What if you were to mount the carrier upside down on the folding adapter and then you could just flip the unit over when not in use and the bottom of the carrier would be facing the back of the vehicle in the upright position? It would obviously depend on the design of the folding adapter as to whether or not that would work, but looking at the pictures, that was my initial thought of something to try.
  4. Welcome! I think you'll be glad you splurged...
  5. Actually it depends...if you turn it off and drive like you normally do, then,as akirby said, no; however, if you turn it off and drive more aggressively (why else would you turn it off?) then, yes, it will affect gas mileage and could affect drive-ability, particularly on wet roads...I would not advise turning it off on wet pavement...been there done that...it's called traction control for a very good reason...
  6. Took my Edge (w/ 96k miles) to a dealer this morning to have the transmission flushed and flashed. I've experienced a lot of what others had posted; hard shifts, slipping from a start, other unusual occasional happenings, but it never left me stranded so I kept chugging away. They flushed it and updated it with the last calibration settings; and while it's still too early to tell if it's addressed all the issues, the ride home seemed much smoother. The hard shifts I experienced were a while back and because it was never constant, I didn't worry much about it. The last time it did that was around the 50k mile mark. There have been other milder shift patterns but I easily determined that was related to the shift point changing while traction control was engaging (yes it can be done). There were other minor times like slowing down and just as it downshifts, and getting on the gas there was a bit of jerk, but that was just related to the timing of the downshift and getting back on the gas. The latest issue I'd seen was a feeling of the transmission slipping while maintaining speed in 6th gear. As soon as I turn O/D off, it stops. It was never severe, just sporadic and annoying. It turns out, a co-worker was riding with me and she noticed and said her husband works for a Ford dealer; you need to call him. Got the re-calibration for free. He said "there are multiple reprograms for the shift solenoid body. My tech has not yet had to replace a trans or rebuild one on the Edges to date. In most cases a reprogram and a trans flush cure the issue." So far so good. So if you're having transmission issues, you might try to at least have it re-calibrated. They did all this in about and hour and half, so my guess is a re-calibration would cost you about an hour's labor. He also mentioned he "found another TSB on 2 shift sensors that are being replaced in repairs" so those having more severe issues may need more than just a re-calibration. I mentioned a single occurrence where from a stop, it felt like there was no power getting to the wheels; it was a very, very slow start and finally felt like it was supposed to about a mile later. Turns out there was something mentioned about starting from 4th gear (I may have heard that on this forum), and that's actually what this felt like. Only happened once, time will now tell if it does it again. Unrelated to the transmission, there appears to be an open recall letter out related to "cooling system corrosion may lead to contamination of the heater core." I never received the letter but he did provide me with a sample copy if anyone's interested. I don't appear to have an issue related to this. So, if you are having transmission issues, get it checked out, it could be as simple as a re-calibration. I will also say, making a friend with someone that works for a dealer helps too! Just a side note, I recall a post on here a while back asking if anyone ever turned traction control off on dry pavement to see what it would do considering it could still generate wheel spin with it on. Well, let me tell you, I did recently (because I was getting new tires the next day) and all I can say is TIRE SMOKE! :peelout: And if it's wet...well, that obvious, you lose traction and control; that's why it's called traction control!
  7. I will have to do that some day and hear your upgraded system...
  8. I've noticed on mine, from P to R, I thought it was fully in R, but it actually wasn't. It takes an extra 1/4" slide back to engage fully in R. You could be having the same issue from R to D.
  9. I've got 96k on mine and having it flushed at a dealer this morning. They are also going to flash (re-program) the tranny as well. They said that generally resolves the issues I've experienced; most recently, it feels like it's slipping when maintaining speed in 6th gear. They gave me some other TSB info. I'll try to give an update and provide that TSB info later. Like akirby said, go to a dealer as the other shops generally do a 'pump out and refill' of fluid. No way that's going to be a clean flush. Had that done to a '97 Explorer once at a quick service oil change place and it just didn't feel the same afterwards but it was time to trade it in anyway.
  10. How or why? Please educate me as I'm looking to get my fronts tinted as well. I have an '07 SEL+ (the LTD of its debut year). The sticker on my window also has AS2. Speaking tint and Dingo...Dingo, did you apply your own tint or do you have a local shop you'd recommend to a local??
  11. My '07 looked similar and turns out the pads were almost gone. I got the occasional grinding (metal to metal) and after removing the wheel, determined that an edge of the pad was down to the metal. There's really no easy way to tell how much pad is left without removing the wheel.
  12. Mine did the same, looked like a crooked snake across the dash...I just ripped out what I could; there is still a small piece on each side that I couldn't quite get to. The only purpose I se that it serves is to keep small stuff from falling under the dash at the base of the windshield.
  13. As the original owner, my '07 has just over 94k; put about 44k on it the first 3 years and then the next 50k of those were put on in the last 2 years (that's when I started a longer commute for a new job). No mechanical issues at all. I've had the occasional hard tranny shift, but never had it flashed. It's FWD so no AWD PTU issues. The rear spoiler was replaced under warranty due to the sagging gasket (it started sagging again after the warranty was out...I just pulled it off this time..) I had a rattle fixed that was related to the BAMR and headliner (I think there was a TSB or something but it was under warranty then as well). I did replace the battery around that 44k mark, brake pads at about 85k and I'm about to put on another set of tires (OEs then Toyo OC HT then the now Toyo Versado CUVs, and going back to the OC HTs). Yes, I eat tires for breakfast... It's been a great ride and I hope it stays that way for several more years!
  14. If that's the 'best feature of that SUV'...glad I own an Edge...
  15. Where did you find that number? I read 19.3 feet for 2012 Edges; 18.8 for my '07... Gun it and hit the parking brake...that should turn it around in less acreage...
  16. Um, the 3.5L V6 EB is rated at 365hp (in the SHO and F150 at least)...the only other EB line-up I saw was the 1.0L, 1.6L, and 2.0L making anywhere from 160 to 301hp. 365hp > 301hp... Maybe you know something we don't (and I'm sure you do) but I didn't see any mention of a 2.3L-2.7L EB OT: speaking of "L"s...did you know the Smart Car actually has a "0.9L" emblem...IF I were to buy that car, that would be the first thing to come off, THEN I would drop in the engine from a Hayabusa...search for that on youtube...
  17. Do you have the BAMR (Vista Roof)? I've wondered what a couple subs would do in an Edge with that. I had a Bronco II back in the day. The entire area behind the back seat was filled with a custom box with 2 15s. You could hear the bass a quarter mile away. Plus, just throw a quarter on the roof and it would flip it a few inches up...
  18. I did that once...then he flashed his hidden blue lights... Glad you're up and running full speed again!
  19. I second that. I asked in another post how that would work and I just don't like the fact that it hangs from the spoiler. Seems like one good hard bump and it's bye-bye spoiler, rack and bike... I hope it works out, but I have full confidence in my hitch mount.
  20. I think comparing our V6 Edge and his I4 ecoboost are comparing 2 different kinds of apples...
  21. Make sure you get one of these: www.etrailer.com/Locks,Hitch-Accessories/Draw-Tite/63201.html It's well worth the extra $ over a plain hitch pin.
